Retaining Gus was very important because he is a major driver of MFC culture. He's excellent at inclusion and team building. Max is a great leader - always says the right thing - but Gus is intelligent and has miles of EQ. He has single-handedly made Lingers a hero and raised the role of wingers out of the "utility" category and into an art form now recognised by all TV footy commentators. That's what I see from outside. There must be heaps more we can't see.

What excellent news! But I am curious about how these contracts work. How can the club know what Clarry will be worth in seven years? He can't remain as powerful as he is now, can he? There must be some adjustment mechanism to take account of variation in his performance. Clarry and CP5 and Gawny and Gus and May and Lever and Jacko and Vines and Salo can't all be on $1.5m a year, can they? Just curious about how it all works.

Fair dinkum guys. All this talk of Bowey to the wing and Salem to HF is nonsense. It's like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. We have a young team. Some are having second year blues (Rivers dropped), some (like Tracc and Hunt)) are hopelessly out of form and, with injuries and suspensions, we have not been able to create the stability in the structure we had last year. The good part is we only need to win two more games to get into the finals, although even that will be a challenge ( two X Lions, Cats, PAd, Dockers, Collingwood and Carlton.) We might beat Adelaide, and maybe the Dogs. Let's aim for 2023.

She presented Offsiders on the ABC in the morning - including a live cross to Ange Postecoglou in Scotland - and five hours later she's calling the game. Are you kidding CYB? I was concerned Max might have been concussed. Besides that, Danial's action happened AFTER both were over the boundary line. It was unduly rough behavior and was worth at least two weeks. Daniel is very lucky Max got up. People are saying how great it was Max said Dogga should take the ruck for the rest of the quarter. How about Max being stunned and having to recover from having his head swung onto the artificial surface, not even the grass, and having to spend time on the bench to recover? .
