  1. It certainly has been quiet on the Melbourne front with hardly an injuries and any training with almost a full list training is a good indication of a strong preseason .   Makes for  fighting for a spot in the starting line up interesting.

It gives us a chance to have a good start to the season proper with a minimum of fuss.

    Frtsch was by himself.

I didn't see specific skills training.  The ball movement 'drills' were with coaches (forgot to notice which ones) stopping play when the ball came to ground.

The closest I saw to match sim was about 10 minutes with the ball starting in the centre and it going to a designated end of the ground.  The players in the 'fwd line' were relatively stationery which looked deliberate with what seemed to be 'designated players' moving towards the ball carrier.  I was a bit slow to notice who.  Will know better next time.

Thanks to you and others for the encouragement.

Thanks for the  Information  LH  good to hear that almost all are in a healthy state, and training.

  3. 2021.... If we end up in  Hubs so be it better safe than sorry . However please don't shorten the quarters.

Don't we have enough stress during the season without the AFL tampering with the game?

I am really looking forward to seeing BBB line up for us at FF, how good will it be to see a genuine quality FF lining up for us, it has been such a long time in coming  can you just imagine the excitement when he kicks his first bag of 5 goals at the “G” we will be delirious.!!!!!!

When BBB was at North and producing some great footy kicking multiple goals I was thinking this is someone that would be good to have being tall and hard to match up against. Going back as far as 2014.

However one player that l would hope be injured was BBB  when playing North.  Never in my wildest dreams thought that we could get him at our club.

. I wait for the day that he runs out with the Dees as well DZ that is a thrill for me.  I rate him highly.

Curious? Was Phil's full moniker Philip Hamilton Rhoden? Believe there was a previous thread on demonland regarding that 'gentleman's' professional activities.

Yes there was a thread.... However Phil Rhoden's best kick was a torpedo punt and he was so well balanced and so good at executing the kick the opposition supporters would sometimes applaud while spinning perfectly through the air.

Mainly a reserves player as he only played 3 games in the ones. Wasn't one for many possession.

I have about 20 years’ worth of scarves  from 3 family members clogging up cupboard space. My wife has put her foot down....she wants them out.

I think someone offered a solution once before on DEMONLAND.

Can someone remind me of a good way to dispose of them?
I thought perhaps the club could use them to drape over seats if we play again this year in Melbourne with no crowds. ( eg when we play an MCG final in Sept. with no crowd...as I confidently expect!)

Sew them together and make a  trench coat for the winter. A great way to really show your support JJC.

Ben Brown -- is a vital piece and chomping at the bit. He will show why.

Rivers -- 9 games under his belt plays like a 100 gamer. Amazing.

The Swans/Freo games were massive blemishes against him and the team but let's not also forgot we were pretty unlucky not to score wins against the Lions, Cats and even the Tigers earlier in the year. I still have (blind) hope that Goodwin and the team can get things to click this season but he is on his last chance.

Yes he certainly is on his  last chance, however the Cairns game against the Swans didn't favour us with the transportation of bus and plane  on the day as we know.

I just can't understand why we were not given the time to prepare in Cairns and acclimatise prior.

Many people here and in the media talk about game plans.

What I would like to know is; what is a game plan. Is it an algorithm or something?

What is the MFC game plan.  We seem  to play on a lot.  Is that it?- our game plan?

I have been here for yonks see the phrase 'game plan' and gloss on without thinking about it.

That stops here. I want to know all about  game plans.

Can some one actually explain to me what a game plan is and why it is important to have one.

PS I played footie for 40 odd years  and  in that time I never  knew I was part of a plan or  that one existed.

THE GAME PLAN    HMMM ! this is what l think ,  Get the ball to Big Ben as quickly as possible and if he doesn't get it then the crumbers have a chance if it hits the ground or the Weid and LJ could chip in for a mark. It is Simple just get the ball deep into the forward line.

If that doesn't work then there is no game plan. The Game plan is get it to big Ben !

  11. I have hope of seeing our great club play at the  Gee in front of a crowd in 2021 and in front of their members waving  red and blue flags and cheering the boys on. Twenty thousand or  so mostly members   and singing the song  as they venture out onto the ground. So be it to start with.

The adrenalin pumping through your veins   and being loud just supporting the boys in that famous jumper. I won't miss it for the world. Ending the day with a big win singing the song again and again,

Bring  on the opening round against Freo.

  12. There is one person that l would like to see do really well and that is Tmac. Has his critics however you see it He is on the list and can play a part in our rise.

I will be following his progress this preseason till the start of the season proper with a lot of interest. I just want him to do well because when he is on he is hard to match up. IMV he is a vital part.

Don't write him off just yet.

  13. The best drop kicks consistently  was a centreman who played for Collingwood called Barry Price. He was  very accurate for passing the ball chest height especially to Peter McKenna.

Bob Skilton  as was Max Papley  grandfather  of young Tom Papley were  great exponents  of the drop kick.  However Tassie Johnson was a terrific  long kick when kicking out.   The drop kick was rarely used in the early 70s it faded away.

In the early 6o,s If you didn't have the Ron Barassi footy boots  it was hard on your big toe to drop kick a leather footy as a 10 year old.  Don't l know.

On the muddy grounds the drop kick was hard to manage as you would mostly end up with grubber kicks.

It is doubtful that Goodwin will get the team to a GF. However, I have far more confidence that a combination of Williams, Yze and Jordan Lewis could do it in a stride - a unique coaching structure if we are innovatively hungry for a flag, not just a paycheque and a series of apologetic excuses (oops, and a new Jaguar for the elitist mental brick wall).

I do like Goody to succeed and now i believe he has  capable assistants  to support him. Williams and Yze are  big ins  they are certainly big assets for the club taking the next step.

  15. Of Coarse Simon  is under pressure isn.t the coach the first on the chopping block?  IMO the list is there and  we have the right mix now I am expecting some favourable results in 2021.

A 4 year plan with 1 Premiership ?  After what we  have been through  since 64  l would take  that.    Beggars can't be chooses.      The arrow is straightened  and aiming for the bulls eye.  Don't miss Goody.

India dominating this test match now ... a minor miracle now required by the Aussies.

Still no news on where the next test match will definitely be held.  Could still be Sydney but the 3rd test isn't due to start until the 7th Jan anyway.  Not sure why Perth hasn't been talked of as a venue

And if India win the test we'll need to win the series to win back the Border/Gavaskar trophy.  n.b. India have won the last 2 series' between the 2 countries

No it doesn't look good at all Macca however if Green hangs in and can bat right through and put on some modest partnerships with the tail then......Who knows?    I suppose not likely never know. I am putting no pressure on the kid.

That is the last we will see of Burns confident of that sad to see him finish his career like that. The selectors won't take any more of his failures he is too fragile.

I hope Warner is ready to go next game, I think that it might be played at the G again. Time will tell.

Slow day watching the cricket. I know the club posted our potential Cricket XI but I think there is more hidden talent in our list.

    1. Jack Viney - (captain) opening batsman. Tough as nails. Always takes on the short ball. Plays like Justin Langer.
    2. Steven May - opening batsman. Strong rock like defence.  Hits it long when he goes for it.  Plays like Matthew Hayden.
    3. Christian Salem - left handed batsman.  Highly skilled. Fluent stroke maker. Part time handy off spin when required. Plays like Usman Khawaja.
    4. Christian Petracca - right hand batsman. Aggressive middle order stroke maker. Confident. Plays like Viv Richards.
    5. Kozzzzy Pickett - left hand batsman. Small but very aggressive. Goes after the bowling. Strike rate 100+. Quick between the wickets. Plays like Nicholas Pooran.
    6. Jake Melksham- right hand batsman. Coaches favourite.  Doesn’t score big but does enough to keep himself in the team.  Plays like Damien Martyn.
    7. Nathan Jones (vice captain) - wicketkeeper/batsman. Strong big hitter. Aggressive. Plays like Rod Marsh.
    8. Trent Rivers - all rounder - batsman - medium fast swing bowler. Huge improver. Good all round player who can also bat and score good runs. Plays like Ben Stokes.
    9. Nev Jetta - leg spin bowler. Attacking and Crafty in your face leg spinner. Plays like Abdul Qadir.

    10. Luke Jackson - fast bowler. Tear away young quick.  Erratic but wicket taker. Plays like Jason Gillespie.
    11. Ben Brown - fast bowler. Regular 140km express quick. Gets the wickets. Huge run up. Plays like Michael Holding.
12th man. Aaron Vandenburg- of course. Ultimate great bloke to have in the change rooms. Good right hand batsman if concussion rule required.

    Out,  Melksham     In,   Ed Langdon

Langdon will bolster the middle order and grind away all day, Can help hold the tail end together.

The assistance would be very useful but there is some hesitancy on the Weed's learning and onfield execution of advisories. In a good season's performance, the Weed clunks a few marks and goals. He should be clunking a much larger amount of positive performances by this stage. One can be wrong and I certainly hope that my scepticism of his proven value is way off the mark.

JB a great player of the game and  a triple premiership  player in the positions that the Weid is trying to make it in. 24 yo now not the teenager in his first season has had success in finals playing in the forward line before.

I believe JB'S knowhow might be the key to unlocking his talents. Will be watching him growing in confidence in 2021 and beyond and with much interest.

  19.  Mark Brayshaw played for North Melbourne and Claremont  aprox  142 games in Total and Mark's father Ian Brayshaw was an all rounder playing cricket for WA and was an excellent player captained WA and played over 100 first class matches. however did not play for Australia.

Ian Brayshaw is father of Mark and James  who is a former State cricketer. A commentator for Afl footyball on radio and TV.

Mark has 4 sons 3 play AFL footy and Angus Brayshaw is his son.  Now that is an elite sports family.

Debra Brayshaw has an  elite sports family in her life and bet she keeps them level headed.

  20. Troy was just becoming a regular coming  off the half back flank and back pocket   at times.  Played 40 games by the time he was 24 and had cemented his place in the side. In 2004 played in an AFL  elimination final against Essendon which they lost and also a VFL Premiership in the same year.

Married  December 18 2004 and died 26 December 2004. So much happened to Troy that year from the very highs to the very lows and he certainly didn't deserve his ending in life. Such a tragedy.

RIP Troy you will be forever remembered by many of  the supporters at the MFC . IMV and many others at the club You are a Demon life.
