  1. I have become comfortably numb waiting for the Weed's promise.
  2. Good player management is required so as to keep them happy and to know that the MFC have their backs.
  3. Given the fact that he should be used 'around the ground' due to his aerobic capacity, it would be a waste to plunk him solely on McKay. He could act to take on some of those kick-ins from the fullback kicker ( most probably Salem in the main) that Max was expected to be in position for and snatch the mark, allowing May to bob up unexpectedly in the melee or its coverage and requirement for mongrel defenders. The overworked Max could not have to cover so much ground, so often, so well; he could stalk the midfield and forward areas at his relative leisure. It would be like a training run for Max - so easy - and for TMac - backline experience and clearance abilities.
  4. I'd consider that we have been there, before. Many times, with Sam. Faith says 'yes' for Sam. The head says innovation - so it's Majak for me (rucking strength, marking strength, mobile by nature, kicks well & reliably, good defensively, can play forward or back as well).
  5. That is possible and to some, will make sense if Fritta has another tough run across four quarters. Sam is just as accurate, I think, and can take a mark if not double-teamed as Fritta has been lately. He is also much larger so it will be less likely that he gets pushed, bumped, jostled out of the play as easily as Fritta has been. Sam will have to adopt a Fritta strength, though. That is to lead to space where to opposing crowd ain't. He must be mobile, often. He must eye his potential feeder and direct the pass to that (those) place (places) where opportunity exists. Target practice to the Weed during forward line entry - will lead to goals off his boot if his teammates can find him making sensible moves outside the goal square. Other than that, 'Carna Dees!!
  6. Can't agree with this observation. Changes, however subtle, are necessary to keep the highest possible player familiarity and conditioning at the AFL level - particularly with talented newbies and youthful potentials - such as quite a few of our recent recruits. Having depth such as ours, at present, is something that requires an appropriate staging ground to be maintained. It sets up achieveable standards and understanding of the expected performance levels.
  7. I think that commentators statement surprised us all - we were scanning the vision of bigger names, whole-field improvements and potential opportunities - but once the statement was made, we all recalled the talent displayed.
  8. If he turns out to be another Obst, good luck to the other Premiership contenders!
  9. A few practices on run-through kicking and hitting targets is all he needs. Great hands, great moves, great anticipation. Well done, young man.
  10. Darren Bennett was the best conventional goalkicking ace we have ever fielded. Bananas, check-side, dribbles and other interesting techniques aside. The next best was The Ox, then Tulip. I am not talking about getting the ball in the first place, just the kicking techniques utilised to get the 6 points from a set shot.
  11. The stats are largely even - distributed and each has a particular meaning/interpretation. Thanks for this array. My issue is really about experience and potential. In this regard, the Melk has been playing at AFL level with both the Dees and with Essendon for much longer accumulated AFL game times (at this level) than the Weed. The Melk has achieved a couple of very good, sustained performances across more than one season. The Weed in comparison, has not. Melk also is reaching an age where the footballing sunset is forseeable and some consider it to be predictable; and, this has combined with a minor loss of form across this season, and in 2020. For the Weed, the sunset would appear to be a far greater distance away. His form has (by most accounts) been on the improve and is exciting many Demons fans, at present. The scales are tipping, surely? However, if we are to benefit from depth, experience and match conditioning - as well as re-confirming abilities and aptitudes of both Melk and Weed at the present moment, it is my opinion (only) that Melk could be returned to Casey for some stimulating, improved performance readiness - rather than/relative to - a continuity of AFL selection. Weideman would most likely be the best current replacement for Melk in the AFL team should the aforementioned Casey practice eventuate.
  12. Swans glamour boy brigade. No chance in Hades. Good footballing craft, in other words. It's not what is done - it is who dunnit?
  13. Accusation, no evidence, how typical. Self-justifying crap.
  14. Better question: How much was Hawkins paid for breaking May's eye socket?
  15. A majority of comments announce that it is time for the Weed to have another shot at the big time, so what better opportunity might exist than a game against Carlton? He surely can make a greater contribution (other than just taking marks) than what the Melk has done? It will also provide a better decoy going into deep forward - in the hope that it may release an over-manned Fritta to play his more natural game foraging for crumbs and more meaningful scoring opportunities that has made us so potent 'down there' this season. With TMac and BBrown, as well, supported by some great smalls in every action and ground ball, the Blues just won't have the coverage that they will need to prevent us from (largely) free scoring. My tertiary thoughts seal the deal: dropping in for addition support are LJ and Gawn, one a terrific midfield-to-deep forward utility and the Captain, perhaps the most reliable mark and play instigator in the League. Carlton will be scratching themselves and losing their cool with one another for an entire game - then faced with attempting to break into our whole backline fortress to 'catch up' on the scoreboard. That just ain't going to happen. If the Demons' midfield play angry with mongrel and sheer cruelty as well, the blues ship is going to spend most of their time visiting Davey Jones and his deep kelp seaweed forests.
  16. A good example of how important it is going to be to give some of our 'depth' Casey players (the young 'uns) a run or two in the AFL team, whilst we have achieved so much, so soon, in terms of wins and ladder position. Should key players get injured or suffer from some form lapses, then it will be imperative to have good list management in place, starting with experience for our depth players as they might stand at the moment.
  17. Time to start training Chandler how to apply mongrel within the rules.
  18. It is a real concern that he won't be giving heaps of mongrel to Cripps this weekend.
  19. Very sporting of you, Sunkn. Yes, the Saints possibly do deserve a lick of the ice-cream as well. 1966 wasn't it? Their last double-scooper with a cherry on top.
  20. It really was a good return for Harmes; he battled hard and kept working away at it all despite a loss of form and a few errors. His use of the body in close and in screens was terrific. His ball usage was sloppy at times and at other times, effective. His ability to run and link is a real asset to our game, and it will improve as he, too, adjusts to the new footballing mantras about him.
  21. Absolutely! Just like the 'G is not our true home ground anymore. We silently endure change without request. We are the Redlegs, and proud of it. I don't give a rat's tonsilectomy about alleged uniform clashes between teams. The newbies on the block can revert to other apparel, let us stay as our historical bithright dictates should we so choose.
  22. I'd like to see some intimidation swooped onto the opposition, sometime. It's all about mongrel, when you boil it down for a victory.
  23. It's impressive. Sydney threw the book at us and they are a highly talented and well-coached team. They were better - and more dangerous - than any other team we have played this season. We took the pummelling and gave some back; we worked hard to regain a lead and then, maintain that lead. They got to within three points in the last quarter - we left them there - and then moved on with a final burst leaving Sydney 'not looking like getting the lead back to win the match'. Carna Dees!
  24. Possibly needs a feed of pasta, does our Tracca. That will get him right quickly in seven days. Particularly if Nonna or Mamma make it for him to his favourite recipe.
