The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Flamingdees replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be inclined to trade him off now if his intentions were leaning towards leaving. We don't need 12 months of will he or wont he next year. Poor bloody Simon Goodwin in his first year doesn't need that crap. -
Just my opinion fellow Demonlanders.
-
Not sure if one or two good years makes you a destination club. Need a sustained period of success both on and off the field.
-
In my view for Victorian destination clubs in order First Bracket - Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong. Second Bracket - Essendon (up there with the top bracket a few years ago and will get there again), Richmond, Carlton. Third Bracket - Melbourne, Saints, Dogs, North. Still think we are a way off, we haven't made finals in past 10 years and have had how many bottom four finishes in that time.....

Reckon it's about a 50/50 for him staying. Agree would rather get it done this year if he decides to leave and think we will get a deal done this year if he's intentions are to leave Could not see him going to anyone but Freo it WCE. Dont think you can put a value on a player like Jesse so two top five picks would still be unders in my view but in reality we would be lucky to get close to that. We might just see Freo trying to trade back into the first round this year with a pick say 15 to 18. Maybe a trade could then look something like Freo pick 3 this year and next years first round (hopefully pick 5 or so) for Hogan. Still don't like it...... My feeling is we should know his intentions in the next two weeks. -

Totally agree Macca. Draft can be a lottery. Look at the Syliva and McLean draft. Gumbleton and Hansen. Morobitto only played 30 odd games and Toumpas, don't get me started on that. We have already put three years into Hogan so basically we will be doing that again with another kid who might delevop or might not. I'd certainly be playing hard ball and I'd bet WCE will be in the mix too. Sick of our club getting screwed over with players wanting to move. We got bugger all for Scott Thimpson and Farmer, we were lucky Frawley was a free agent and our trade for Howe ended up playing seconds footy for a big part of the year. It's very hard to place a value on someone like Hogan who could be a champion tall forward. Players like that are invaluable. Two top five picks at a minimum would be my asking price. Praying he stays.... -

Crappy situation both Hogan and the the club are in. If Hogan has a desire to go home and be closer to his family the club would be negligent in not trading him this year. If we hang on to him for another 12 months and he has a great year we could ask for more at the trade table. He may even change his mind and decide to stay. The risk however is we could be hung over a barrel with a trade and Freo have pick 3 this year. We always get screwed over. If we trade him this year instead of next we also get 12 months development into a kid. The club also needs stability and another 12 months of will he or won't he sign is not ideal. Really feel for the young man, the club, the supporters and also Goodwin -
Oh and personally I think J Hogan will be at the Dee's next year. Just a gut feel. As for the year after who knows. I'd really consider trading him this year if his intentions are leaning towards not being at the club long term. Two early picks or one early pick and a good player might get it done. Having said that we will come out getting unders for him as the draft can be a lottery. Just look at how many picks we have stuffed up over the years. We always get [censored] over. Pitty Freo can't trade next years first round pick, unless they pick up another one that is. No one talks about WCE but I'm sure they would have their hat in the ring too. Really hope he stays and signs a five year deal soon.

No mate. Just an old fashion passionate Dee's supporter and long time member. Like I said used to post years ago. Think my name may have been redlegs but it was that long ago I couldn't be sure. I know one of the players fathers.

I think we are still along way from a destination club.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
Flamingdees replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
For me it will be interesting to see how Melksham and all the banned players go after being out of the game for 12 months. The game gets tougher, faster and evolves so much in 12 months. I remember Todd Viney coming back after working in Tennis for a period. Game wasn't as demanding both physically or mentally back then as it is now. -
I personally wouldn't mind Vickery at the Dee's. Watts will get killed one day in the ruck. Pederson and Dawes not up to it. Spencer is no good up forward. Would have liked Gawn playing 75% ruck time and Vickery maybe 25%. How hard would Gawn be to match up on as a forward? Might throw a few teams out.
-
Nah mate, not either of those. I used to post years ago. I can vaguely remember posting about Al Nicolson. That's how long it's been.

Oh, forgot to say that there has been interest in JKH but club feels he has more upside than the shitty picks we might get for him but watch this space. Anything can happen.

Hi Demonlanders, I read your threads daily and no I'm not that bloke who was called braysure or what ever his name was. Thought it was quite funny.... Anyway tried to get more specifics and will continue to do so but as my man said anything can happen in trade week. Deals that often clubs think are a lock often fall over for one reason or another. It's hard to be specific. I too would love to see us pick up an a grader. The club will not put itself in a position where we are paying 200K above market rate for someone. Developing our current talent and becoming a successful destination club is the goal so I'm told. Prestia would have been in the top few paid at our club. Doesn't create a good culture. Richmond board is trying to satisfy supporters by making them look good at the long term detriment to the club. Clubs like the Hawks can offload fringe players for decent picks and players as their fringe players are much better and more proven than ours. I would hate to think where we would be this year if injuries hit us harder than what they did. Also this won't be news to many but he did say we were in a great position if we can hold on to our young talent because free agency and the fact that contracts mean nothing anymore is killing lower clubs. Being a successful destination club can mean an additional 15% in there salary cap as players are willining to play for less.

Hi fellow Dee's supporters, First post in many years. Was posting under another name previously but but forgot user name and password blah blah blah so set up a new one. Anyway most of this is not new news but this is what I know from what I would say is quite a reliable source within the club. Barlow - Dee's are right into him and all going well he will end up in the red and blue next year. Hibberd - Will be a dee next year. Scott Thompson - Goodwin very keen. Dee's are waiting for crows to finish finals. Peter Jackson loves the idea of succession planning and Thompson could be part of this. Vardy - Dee's are into him. Waiting for cats to finish finals. Could end up at WCE. Prestia - Dee's never really in the running due having no first round pick this year. We were also never going to match Richmonds contract offer which will apparently make him one of Richmonds top 4 or 5 players. Vickery - Personally I was keen on him. Club was not so I'm told. Hogan - Was told that the club is not yet pushing to hard with Jesse due to family issues (personally I'm not sure what they are). Club will meet with him at end of September to discuss his intentions moving forward and a new contract. My source says his intentions are anyone's guess ATM. I also asked about Wells, Mitchell and O'Mera. He said every club has enquired about these three. We were never a chance with O'Mera, Wells maybe a chance. Hartlett is apparently on massive $$ so unless port can come to a deal where they pay part of his contract he won't be going anywhere. Dee's not too keen. He said this time of year every club is enquiring about every player. Melbourne have enough kids and young talent right now so additions of Melksham, Hibberd and Lumumba (basically a new recruit) next year and maybe even Barlow will provide some more experience and hopefully consistency. He also said we were blessed with injuries this year so we will be looking at keeping depth players. As for the Dee's proactively trading away some of our young top talent it's not going to happen as we are trying to get create a dynasty. He laughed about Norths and Richmonds recruiting strategy. North will lose over 2000 games experience this year and have bugger all young talent. As for Richmond we all know they think that there one player away from a premiership. He also said Carlton might as well change their name from the Blues to the Giants as Silvagni is into all their fringe players (picking up the scraps so I'm told). Was also told the Dee's players enjoy beating Richmond more than any other side which surprises me. I thought it would be Collingwood. Anyway most of the above is not new news to everyone. It's basically what I have been told by a mate within the club. Like everyone here I wish Hogan would sign a long term agreement and hopefully the club should know more within the next few weeks. Thanks all and go Dee's
