The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Flamingdees replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep and this is what worries me most. None of us know he ins and outs of his family situation but I would think the club would have put a large number of long term deals infront of him going back months and months, maybe even longer. -

Pick three this year. No pick in round one next year at this stage. -

Maybe the AFL should take the NBA approach. If Jesse doesn't want to play with us he goes to the highest bidder. Gold Coast have a crap load of picks this year so off to Gold Coast Jesse. -

Not sure if one player will ruin our club but settling for a crap deal will. Cant see him wanting to play for anyone else but for the Dee's or a WA team. -

Praha, I agree however a suitable deal will need to be reached if he decides to go this year. We do have a lot to lose and if a suitable cannot be reached to satisfy us this year we would be stupid to trade him for bugger all. We only have two clubs in WA and neither of them have first round picks in 2017 (Not 100% sure about WCE at this stage). -

Although I believe the club would prefer this saga not to go into next year the reality is there is a strong chance he may have to play out his existing contract with us even if he decides he wants to go back to WA this year The club would be negligent in trading him this year if a suitable deal cannot be reached. With Freo not having a 2017 first round draft pick available at this stage this is a real possibility. Im sure Freo and WCE will be offering up fringe players that would go for third round draft picks on the open market. -

Watching footy classified. Both Caro and Barrett both of the opinion Jesse is all but gone. Can't stand either of them and they couldn't back it up with any substance. Lloyd was not sure Also spoke about the WA clubs being interested in Hill, McCarthy and Lobb. Not sure how they will be able to put trades together for all these blokes. -

That's right. I remember a guy I knew at the time who is involved at TAC cup level telling me before the draft Viney was a potential top three pick. -

Oh gees pick 3 and 14 to get the mini draft pick. When you look at it like that I dont know how we can even get close to fair compensation. -

Gaff and pick 12. We'd be ripped off big time but maybe that's the best sort of deal we can accept. Much prefer the Freo option you've put forward. -

For some reason I have a gut feeling that he will decide to go as well. In which case the MFC will have to broker a deal that best compensates our club. I just hope we don't cave and take anything less than what GWS got for the Treloar trade. If we're looking at picks alone it's would be say a pick 3 and say pick 7. Then we have to face the prospect of three years development and the risk of picking up a dud. -

Not sure if we can use Dangerfield as an example. He was a RFA wasn't he. Adelaide would have got end of first round as compensation so what they traded for was much better. Brisbane lost a few. Should have got a bit more for Yeo and the bloke that just won Carltons B&F. You can't howver compare them to a Rising star winner who is a tall forward who has kicked around 80 or so goals in his first 40 games. -

If Freo get second round compensation for Mayne they might be able to do a deal with say Sydney for example and move up a few spots. -

Agree that the club will want an answer this year. If he goes a lot may depend on the Mayne compensation Freo receive. If its second round compensation they may try and upgrade that pick to a late first round one say to 15 to 18. That way a trade for Hogan might look like pick 3 and next years first round pick. Thats the only way I can see a fair trade being completed with Freo unless Weller, Neal or Fyfe come into play. WCE has pick 12 this year and say pick 10 to 14 next year (depending on ladder position) but also has Gaff, Shuey, Barras, Duggan and Sheed that we might be keen on. If he stays he would be looking at a massive five or six year deal. About one million bucks a year. Bet list decisions on Dawes and Pederson are also hinging on Jesse's intentions. -

How's Simon Goodwin feeling right now. Hogan's the bloke that you can build a team around. Not sure how much he would be liking the idea of developing through the draft again. -

Will either be a WA club or the Dee's IMHO. Looked like 99.9% to sign a long term deal 6 months ago with the Dee's and now it's anyone's guess. -

Couldn't agree more. As a club we don't need this going into next year. -

Three scenarios. 1) Decides to re-sign on a long term deal. 2) Decides to go back to WA. 3) Plays on with us next year under current contract. Tarde period officially kicks off on 10th October so thinking we would want an indication of where Jesse's intentions lie within the next fortnight. Love to see the club come out shortly and say he's committed to a long term deal. Hate to say it but I've got a bad feeling about this. Maybe it's just me being a typical negative Dee's supporter. Agree with Bombay. Two top 10 selections with one being a top three. I mean what did Treloar go for? Pies pick 7 last year and pick 7 this year. Don't get me wrong Treloar is a gun but Hogan has more upside as key forwards are hard to get and take much longer to develop. -
Destination clubs most often attract the better players and players are most often happy to play for less dollars. Hawthorn players have already said they are happy to play for less to fit O'Mera in. Geelong players have always played for less to keep talent. Clubs like us on the other hand have to often pay overs.

Couldn't agree more Mac7. This is already becoming a circus. If he's still at the club next year with no contract extension signed it will become the biggest circus of all time. We are a young side, the youngest side fielded in most rounds this year. We don't need distractions such as this next year, we need stability and positivity. -

I would be certain that we've tabled offers to him going back months and months. My feeling is the longer this drags on for the more chance he is to go. Bottom line is I think that the club will be pushing for an answer about his indications pretty bloody soon. Can't see Fyfe leaving Freo. Wouldn't mind Neal but his recently signed so can't see him leaving. Interesting situation as Freo have pick 3, no first round pick available to trade next year at this stage and maybe not so many players players we'd be interested in. WCE has pick 12 this year and a first round available next year (let's say about 12 again). They might have more players we'd be interested in such as Gaff, Shuey, Darling. If he leaves can't see any chance of us coming out a head in a trade. His a potential Jon Brown. Issue is for the club if we trade this year we will more than likely get a better result than if we wait till next years trade period. -

Club is much bigger than the individual. Agree with the trade now senario if he is hinting towards leaving. As for Hogan for pick 1, pick 29 and Hibberd unfortunately we may have to settle for something like that. Still not ideal. Pick 1 - Potential 150 game player Pick 29 - Need lots of luck Hibberd - 26 year old coming off 12 months out of the game At least we know what we've got with Hogan. A 21 year old budding tall forward who could be in the top five players in the game in three or four years. Hope to Christ he stays but do we really need a circus next year??
