  1. I just hope that at the end of their careers we're comparing number of premierships, norm smiths, colemans, all-Australians and maybe state jumpers collected by a great many on that list. How do you compare Newton's 6 Colemans and 3 premierships with Sylvia's dual brownlows and 3 premierships? Brocky captaining Victoria surely must give him the edge not to mention his efforts captain-coaching Melbourne to their first premiership in 08! Dare to dream . . . .
  2. A pretty solid reference below: http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/News/News...px?newsId=46632
  3. How about Prodigy - 'Slap My [censored] Up'. Four straight over the pies - love it!
  4. http://demonland.nozzs.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6466 http://demonland.nozzs.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6401 Have a look!
  5. That's brilliant. He's simply living the dream.
  6. I'm in Mousey with my now 2 paid up convertered member mates. Hope to see you at the after-game again.
  7. 82 forum visitors waiting to see if Juice gets a game. We really need to get a life.
  8. Let's cut to the chase. To those who have actually seen him play - particularly over the past 4 - 6 weeks, is he ready? Seems simple enough doesn't it. Thousands of words typed on this forum about how exciting the lad is, how much potential he has and how much people would like to have a look at him but the simple question remains, is he ready?
  9. I take your point - no need to repeat yourself. Would Godfrey and Ward be getting games if Bartram, Moloney and Whelan were available? My best 22 has Whelan ahead of Ward and Bartram ahead of Godfrey. Wouldn't that then make Ward and Godfrey depth? I guess my take on depth is different to yours. Do with have depth in leadership? Do we have depth in the ruck department? Do we have depth in ball winning midfielders? Do we have depth in key position posts?
  10. Featuring Cameron Bruce kicking a goal from outside 50. Can someone please tell me his carrying some sort of niggle that's hindering his kicking. He's lost his polish sadly. Hope it's just a slight dip and now not par for the course for Cam.
  11. I was thinking the same Rhino. Ward, Godfrey, Wheatley, Brown and Bizz are listed as certainties to be delisted when we lose and evidence of our incredible depth when we're winning. But I guess that's what we love about footy - fortunes can swing in a matter of minutes that alone days, weeks or months. Expectations are closely linked to mood and nothing brightens the demeanour of a Dees fan more than a win over the pies!
  12. Son of Anthony who played 100 games with both Sydney and Essendon making him available under the father/son rule for both teams. Looks like one of them will probably take him. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E19765,00.html
  13. That's one of the the finest examples of sarcasm I've seen on this site for awhile. Cheers Finks.
  14. Anyone else growing tired of the "I've followed the Demons for X numbers of years and therefore I'm justified in [insert whinge]" Yes, you might have been teased a little by your mates in the primary school playground when you were the only kid wearing a Melbourne jumper. Yes, you might have left the MCG feeling deflated after numerous poor performances and jealously observed the smug looks of success worn by our supporting counterparts. Yes, over the years we've lost more than we've won and you're reminded by your workmates of that very fact every other boody day (certainly on Mondays). Yes, it would be far easier to follow another team - an Essendon or a Sydney for example. And yes, getting your hopes up after 6 months of waiting through a pre-season only to be decimated by injury and riddled by poor form is hard to swallow. But why the hell come on here and whinge and whine about how hard it is being a Melbourne supporter. Haven't you worked it out yet. We're all [censored] Melbourne supporters. We know. Is the "this club owes me big time for all my support" drivel just an extension of the spirallying society-wide epidemic of feeling sorry for ourselves and expecting someone else to take pity and hand over our just desserts? This club owes you nothing. Be careful or I'll soon be quoting JFK. You talk about wanting those 3 hours of your life back after the Melbourne/Geelong final. I felt the same way after reading your self-indulgent crap and that took just a matter of seconds. I'm definitely going to have to change my username!
  15. Makes me feel like going out and cheering for the boys. When's our next game? Seriously Graz, who said that all we teachers (or is that ex-teachers?) could do was teach? Great stuff - a brilliant read. To add to your Paul Kelly quotes Melbourne to me is like "The Gift That Keeps Giving". The club owes me nothing. Cheers again.
  16. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=45103390 http://www.thelucksmiths.com.au/ Sorry to the mods - this should probably appear somewhere else now. Pity my attempts at optimism have failed miserably - back to Headland's 6 y.o
  17. Kieranbj, I'm leaving to go on my honeymoon in a month and am seriously contemplating leaving half way through to get back in town for the Luckies concert. My love of the Dees is almost matched by my commitment to the Luckies!! And as an aside, it seems that almost 24 hours after my original post that I am indeed the only dreamer . . .
  18. And there's alot of different types of confidence. How confident is Moloney to push his body for an entire game? Does Travis have the confidence of his coach? Does Bate truly believe he belongs in elite company yet? What has the centre circle rule done to the confidence of Jeff White? Do C Johnson, D Bell, P Wheatley and D Ward feel safe and secure in the team and as a consequence have the confidence to leave their direct opponent in the backline to help out a mate? Does Daniher have enough confidence in his young key position prospects to try them for long periods of time?
  19. Some might suggest we've been doing this since we lost Jakovich, Lyon, Schwarz and Charles within a short period.
  20. Predictably many recents posts have focused on gameplan, injuries, leadership, coaching and obviously playing personnel. I'd place the loss of confidence as the over-riding reason for our poor form. We're constantly told that footy these days is more and more played in the mind. My point is pretty simple. Are we one game away from turning our season around - potentially one blistering quarter of footy away from a massive form reversal? In my desperate attempt to view this season through rose coloured glasses and not rose coloured glasses of wine (again apologies to the Lucksmiths) I'd like to see how many of you think our problems are genuinely terminal and which of you think that it's still to early to write off 2007. A plethora of examples can be found of teams struggling, low in confidence going from boiled lollies to chocolates. Let's face it Melbourne are pretty good at doing this three or four times a season and sometimes within a single afternoon. Could a 10 goal freight train finish against Freo at the 'G' prove to be the stimulus for another barnstorming run? What are the odds that in four weeks we'll be reflecting on the fickle nature of this game as Neitz, McLean and Robbo are all pending inclusions ready to bolster a team riding on the crest of new-found confidence and the excitement of a couple of youngsters? Is it possible that from adversity comes Northeyesque 'character' that we didn't know existed. Could Jones, Bate and a fresh Sylvia click, take that all important step and rejuvenate our midfield giving our celebrated receivers first use of the pill? Could the cracks in our defence be overcome with the lessening of pressure and the return of a fit Jared Rivers? Could one of Dunn, Newton or Garland emerge in the same way as Garry Lion did all those years ago? Some might say that I'm a dreamer but I sincerely hope I not the only one. Confidence is the key. Remember our Robbo inspired win over West Coast in 1998? Injury-plagued and considered little to no chance - an against the odds victory drove us all the way to the second last week of September. Why not again this Sunday against Freo? Confidence can come and go in the blink of an eye. I offer you our opponents this week Freo as a classic example. Carlton is another - flogged one week, played the most scintillating half of footy I've seen in a long while, one week later. When confidence is low it spreads like a plague but the good news is it works both ways. We'll definitely turn it around at some point this year and record some good performances. The real question is whether we can do it whilst depleted in number and before the season has slipped away.
  21. The irony for me is that if Headland hadn't reacted in such a way he wouldn't have created such a public furore. I feel a little bit sorry for his daughter who will no doubt be reminded of this incident regularly in the future. Did Headland resort to violence in a bid to defend his daughter? If so it has backfired in the worst possible way. The best thing he could have done for his daughter, his team, his supporters and his bank account is to walk away and focus on a winning a game of football. But he couldn't. He's got a lot of growing up to do. I hope for his daughter's sake he does so quickly.
  22. Random thoughts: Dropping Holland is brave. This is a coach who is picking the 22 who he thinks will get the job done on Monday. Horses for courses appears to be a reality. Daniher needs this win. In the past I think he'd retain a player who had a good game despite the possible inbalances his inclusion would create the following week. I'd like to see Wheatley given a chance. Clearances from our backline is an issue. His kicking offers us something different and a good degree of flexibility down back. I'd play Bartram forward as a negating player on Hodge. A lot of the Hawks drive obviously comes from him when they're up and running. We will win this game if Bruce, Green and Johnstone play well.
  23. I'm in - but can i remember to get my tips in every week . . . . History is against me. I don't care where I finish as long as I can remember to tip each week!!
  24. I get the feeling that Jonathon Brown might well agree with you. Seems to have worked in Sydney. It will be interesting to see if it's just a trend or whether it becomes stock standard.
  25. I like the Bruce, Brock, Brad (Green that is) co-captain option. It's the classical fence sitting position but I can see the three of them working really well. All of them possess a fine work ethic, the ability to communicate well with teammates and in the media. They all play in the midfield and can have a real influence. Brock and Bruce are probably two of our best three players along with Trapper and Green will be close to that level after an injury free year. He found a lot of the ball last year and was only let down by uncharacteristic poor disposal. Post-season operation has hopefully fixed that problem. Add Rivers and maybe a matured Travis to the leadership group next year and we're looking better than we have for a long time in terms of leadership. But having said all that - long live Neita!!
