Haven't read the article, but one of the things which have killed our season so far are in game injuries early in games, which have left us out of legs late in games allowing teams/game I think we otherwise should have won over run us - think Geelong and Richmond (the inverse almost happened against Hawthorn). Part of the AFL's rational for the sub rule was so as not to leave a team in this position so exposed and I think the rule actually did serve that purpose quite well. I'm not advocating a return to the sub rule as it was previously implemented, but what I think could work well in this situation is to allow one of the named emergencies to take the place of an player injured before half time. Obviously such a provision could be open to exploitation, but I think a set of rules to reasonably control such abbuse are possible.

Not saying it's right or wrong and obviously game style has changed a fair bit over the last 20 odd years, but Greg Williams, known as both a prolific handballer disposal getter lead the league for both these categories for most of the period between 1984 - 1994, with an average hanballs per game of around 16 and average disposals of 30 - so far this year Clary is going at 23 and 31 respectively.

I'm sorry, but at this point I think we would be just about better off playing a bed ridden Hogan over Weid, particularly given Weid's write up from the Casey wasn't exactly glowing. We must be really desperate for KPPs at present. I would have thought it could be worth giving Hullet or someone a go.

Agree with all these, but I also think ANB for Hannan is on the cards, though I doubt that all three changes would be made in the same week. Nothing particulaly against the players suggeted to be dropped, just don't think they are really hitting their straps at the moment and that those on the ins list are probably fractionally ahead on tallent and or toughness. In general, I think the team needs to come out with fire in their nostrils and maintain that for the entire contest - I don't really think we're done that for a single game this year yet. I'd also like to see Harmes in the side for this reason, as I think he has the ability to bring a combination of physicality/burst through strength that the other contenders carn't quite match. True Harmes's skills can be poor, but my view is that they are hot and cold, rather than inherently limited. On his day, Harmes has the ability to take a strong overhead mark, take on players and break through lines, puts on hard tackles and bumps, has good goal sense and can be a match winner.

I'm actually wondering if the AFL didn't do all they could to pre-script his 200th against the Crows this week? I'm also wondering if the MFC isn't keeping him out of the midfield to a) pregerence the development of our young players in there and b) manage Benie for the times we really need that extra output? Anyways, hope he breaks free of the schackles a bit and puts in one of his blinder performances. Came to us and offered so much when we were desperate for players to stand up and be competitive and I will never forget those first few years and that role he played for us. Total legend Bernie - give em Crows hell mate, your well and truly one of us now!
