I think we now have an answer as to why the Bluey's so late, courtesy of Cameron Schwab's Twitter: @finn_bradshaw wanted to give the lads a full break asap so we could get them started early. 1st available date after they are all on deck.

Adelaide: Robert Shirley, Nick Gill, Greg Gallman, Aaron Kite, Tom Lee, Jason Moss (rookie) all delisted http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...42/default.aspx

Seems like a contradiction to me, sylvinator. Personally, I never saw anything other than pace from Buckley. And I think there has been a growing trend moving away from athleticism and towards skill in football.
-
Sure. But I created this thread in the hope that we could get definitive answers about contracts. You haven't provided a source for Bruce's or Dunn's contracts. As far as I'm concerned, Bell, Johnson, Bruce and Dunn are unknown. I'm not saying you're lying or making it up, but you don't have any source to back your word.

CB will be disappointed re: Valenti. We're still a spot short. McLean, Whelan, Robbo, Wheatley, Buckley all make 5 spots. That's 1, 2, 11, 18 and PSD 1. Valenti was on the rookie list, so his delisting doesn't give us another spot. As it stands we'll be passing on 34. I would have thought, if we were going to delist more players, we'd have done so today. So maybe we don't think 34 is going to be of much use.

We all love to have our say as to who deserves to be kept on the list and who ought to make way. But a lot of the time we don't know anything about a players' contract situation. People are always wondering about who's in contract, who's not. So I thought maybe we should make a thread where we can list players' new contracts when we actually know about them. This can then be the source we can refer to when considering what might happen to certain players. In the last few weeks we have found out the following (dates are the last year on the player's contract): Davey - 2013 Sylvia - 2011 Wonaeamirri - 2011 Jamar - 2010 Miller - 2010 Also (from http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsart.../default.aspx): Newton - 2010 Bate - 2010 Frawley - 2010 Petterd - 2010 Garland - 2010 Jones - 2010 From http://www.melbournefc.com.au/News/NewsArt...7/default.aspx: Maric - 2011 Morton - 2011 Grimes - 2011 Martin - 2011 McDonald - 2010 Green - 2011 (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=68889) I assume Cheney and McNamara are OOC this year (standard 2-year deal when they were drafted in 2007), and since I haven't found anything to say otherwise, I think Watts, Strauss, Blease, Bennell, Jetta and Bail are all contracted up until next year. RR says PJ and Bell are contracted for 2010 but I haven't found anything that confirms that. So there are 17 players there who I've found confirmation about, and other 10 or so who are unconfirmed but likely.

A nothing interview, really. Talked about Ball, said nothing we don't already know. Talked about McLean leaving, said nothing we don't already know. -
October 21st (Wednesday week). And you're right. Every other club has had their B&F.
-
I don't. FFS it's 2009. Seriously...

Collingwood: Chris Bryan and Danny Stanley (delisted) Also rookies Toby Thoolen, Kevin Dyas and Johnny Bennell (related to our Bennell?) all delisted. http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/newsfeatur...75/default.aspx

2009 Player Review - # 32 Cameron Bruce
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not consistently, though. Just on occasion. I meant that maybe he'd be turned into a Ling-type, the tagger of the team, to whom we assign a shut-down role week-in-week-out. -

Oh, rightio then. I guess, when I think Demonland, I think Nasher. Synonymity, if you like. -
More info courtesy HUN: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melb...f-1225785787733 Apparently Wonnaeamirri and Jurrah return today (rookie listed and younger players are today, those with more than 4 years of experience are next week)

We might have to wait until Friday 30th October before we know for sure: Fri, Oct 30, 2pm – List lodgement one. Rookie promotion to primary list, retained second year rookies, retained third year international rookies, retained third year non-registered rookies I guess that's when we make the call on Spencer and Valenti, which affects the de-listing decisions.
-
And the HUN has some photos, for those like me who are interested: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/gall...85748284?page=1 Cheney, McKenzie, Spencer, Grimes, Martin all in Photo no. 1, being coached by Scott West. Good signs for Cheney and Spencer?

2009 Player Review - # 32 Cameron Bruce
titan_uranus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well, couldn't he at least try... Look, at his age, you're right, he isn't going to be able to change his action. But he can definitely work on his decisions as to who to kick to. -
From Bailey says Dees are ready to rise: Cale Morton, Jack Grimes, Stef Martin, Jake Spencer, Kyle Cheney, Jordie McKenzie and Shane Valenti were part of the first group that returned. Two more groups of 10 to 12 will return later in the day. More experienced players will return on October 19. On Blease: Bailey said young midfielder Sam Blease, who broke his leg early in the 2009 season, would be gradually included into the main training sessions. "Sammy is doing some running and jogging, because he's a lot more advanced than probably where we thought, considering the nature of the injury that he had," he said. "He's going to have a very controlled program up until Christmas, Sam, so we won't be rushing him at all. But the young fella is really keen to get going, but we've just got to try and control him, because he hasn't done a lot in the last six months. "He's done everything we've asked of him, so he's really keen, because he's missed a whole year of football – it doesn't happen often in a young man's career." And on Watts: At the moment he is 88 to 89 kgs. He is expected to enter next season at a playing weight of 92 or 93 kgs. The plan is to have him play at 94 or 95 kgs in 2011.

I think by darkening it they need to ensure it's less of a purple and more of a navy blue. At the moment, in the light, the blue looks more like a dark purple.

2009 Player Review - # 32 Cameron Bruce

Since you've been here from the start, isn't that clause made a bit redundant? You're right, though. But that line of thought is perpetuated by a few (we all know who), and I reckon it's permeated into the general thought. Bruce really has to work on his kicking, but he never, ever, gives up, he has good pace for someone of his height, and he can play midfield or defence (don't really rate him as a forward on account of his crappy kicking). Your idea about him being a tagger is a new one, and I like it. That could work well. Certainly I'd prefer Bruce taking a tagging role than, say, Bartram, or Dunn. -
As a precedent, North Melbourne didn't invite Josh Gibson to their B&F, given that he'd announced he was walking out on them prior to the event. Based on that, I say no. He's not going to win, and I certainly hope we have 5 players who'll poll better than him.

I'm there. Well, my radio is, anyway. I quite like Sports Today, actually. Dwayne's better in this mode than he is as a commentator. -
Maybe he was disinterested because he was playing school footy? I'm going to believe Emma on this one. Yeah, what I like about Trengove is his ability to be damaging up forward and that he can take a mark. Good stuff for mids. When I read that, I thought she was just using that deal as an example of how clubs rate the top 5 as being well out in front of the rest. Not necessarily that Sydney had their eye specifically on Martin or Morabito (or anyone). Just that Sydney felt pick 14, even at 14, was going to be a bit speculative, and they'd really prefer to get a certainty out of that top 5. Flash Forward pisses me off. I thought it was going to be good. Like Lost. Now there's a decent TV show.
-
Agree. The risk of ending up at a club he really doesn't want to be at by going in the ND I think will be enough to persuade him to rule that option out. I still think he is tossing up between staying at St Kilda and nominating for the PSD.
-
Hmm. Didn't know that there's an automatically higher salary for Pick 1. If so, it would make sense. Then again, if we were that worried about Trengove needing extra money to 'ease' the relocation process, couldn't we just add in a bonus off our own bat? Or is there a set salary that we can't change? In the long run, I think number 1 picks get more scrutiny. I mean, on panel shows like OWAAT, they often say 'well, team A has 4 no. 1 draft picks in it, that's why they're so good'. Overall, the difference probably isn't that much, and the two kids we're going to take both seem competent enough that it won't matter.

Err, you didn't read my posts in this thread, did you HT? Though it took someone else to tell me, he's refering to Xavier Clarke.
