  1. Petterd reminds me of Andrew Mackie for the Cats. Although he may not have the running capabilities, he certainly makes up for it with his marking and attack on the ball. He could set up well for players like Bennell and Davey running off the half backline. I wouldn't say Petterd is slow. I think he should be played there, especially if Grimes starts playing in the midfield. I think he has a spot in our future.
  2. Exactly Dappa !! So annoying. Thanks for the posts. Seen most of the youngsters before they played for the dees but I wanted to see them running round in a dees jumper !! Hopefully someone will upload something from the Essendon game !! hint...
  3. G'day all, Being in the UK and not being able to see any of the games, I'm wondering if anyone would be kind enough to upload some footage of our new recruits, whether it be LJ, Watts or whoever else !!! I need to see something !!! I try and watch some of the highlights through bigpond but I am not a subscriber of theirs so I can't !!! Would love to see some of Jurrahs highlights against Essendon if anyone can direct me. Cheers.
  4. Rhino, you have far far too much time on your hands mate.... (7,000 odd posts) Every post I see from you seems to be criticising someone elses and rather than giving some interesting opinions about the subject matter, you seem to quote what people say and then rebut them. You must live a happy a life. I have a question for you Rhino. Assuming Bailey and Co. are list managing, (ie tanking) so we are able to gain access to these priority picks, how do you think the middle age players feel? If I was playing footy for the dees and I was a Davey, Green, Bruce, Rivers or Miller I certainly wouldn't be happy with the way thing's are going at Melbourne. In fact I would be ready to move clubs because the mentality on this site seems to be that we won't be pushing for a flag until 2012. So ask yourself Rhino.... Do you think the middle to late aged players are happy at Melbourne at the moment? Do you think they are excited by the fact that we are trying to gain draft picks so we can "build for the future", whilst knowing that there will be a very slim chance they will be around then? It's a tough one isn't it? While I am content with sitting out the year in one way, knowing we will have picks 1 and 2 or 1 and 3. I am also very worried about the morale of some of our senior players and I wonder how much longer they can cope with this losing culture. I just bloody hope that we will win a grand final from this "re-building" phase, because if we don't. I will be one fiery hot little potato. Go Dee's.
  5. Typical. So many people jump on the Cale Morton band wagon and then jump straight off after a while. I wonder how many other players will be under the spotlight this time next year. I was shot at on this site for saying I would have preferred Cyril Rioli in our side. Everyone keeps saying, "wait until he matures". He will always be skinny and I wish people would come to terms with it. How people get excited by him is really beyond me. Cheap possessions in a game of football seem to do it for some fans on this site. Can people just wait before they make ridiculous comments about him being a "superstar" and everything else.
  6. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones... Your spelling isn't too crash hot either mate.
  7. All I want to know is who the hell taught you how to write with the use (or the non-use?) of correct grammar and punctuation ? What is going on with our educational systems these days !?
  8. I disagree. Of course there has been hype about him. There will always be hype over number one draft picks and that's why all these stupid debates are still going. He didn't go number 1 for no reason. Why should we play him in the reserves? I say keep him in the side and let him learn the ropes with the help of a few senior players like Miller, Robbo and co. The last thing we need is him staring in the reserves, getting another call up, only to let down every idiot that thinks he will dominate. He needs time. He will find his feet.
  9. I don't believe this is a retarded thread at all. Why do you say that? Because your vote is Bailey? Doesn't mean everyone else's is.... For me, I have always wanted Gary Lyon as our coach and the coach that would take us to a premiership. Mostly because I loved watching him play as a youngster and also because he was such a passionate player. This doesn't mean I am unhappy with Bailey. I think Bailey has done a more than admiral job with our list and the way he has implemented the game plan. Hopefully it will start working within a couple of years... I am happy with Bailey as coach but if it were up to me (before he had been appointed), it would have been Lyon.
  10. Yes I may have deleted my last post forgetting the game wasn't at the G....
  11. It is an awkward height, I agree. However isn't Morton 193? I would say that for this day and age, an athletic player at 192-193 would be worthwhile getting. But I agree, gone are the days of the bustling Mathew Lloyds. Bate is far too big and slow. Dunn is just shizen. Would Waite for Carlton be around that height? He is a good athletic mobile player.
  12. What amazes me is that nearly all of those players were taken late to very late in their respective year of the draft. The way he nurtures his players should be a lesson to not just Bailey but many coaches. Imagine if he had our list!? I wonder where every under-performing player on our list would be now....
  13. How can you even think about comparing them after one game? Laughable.
  14. Ridiculous post. His inability to hit targets and make good decisions under pressure...? I'm pretty sure 80% of our list have that inability Rhino. To single out Buckley on that shows very little knowledge about the players we have in our team. And comparing him to Bode and Weetra is even more laughable. Glad you aren't in Bailey's position big guy !
  15. Ahh fair enough. Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Blues next year. I wonder how much good footy Fev has left in him? Anyway.... my concerns are like yours our "core". Will be an interesting one..
  16. While I agree with you Dappa on the questioning of whether our "core" is going to be good enough, I can't agree with you on the following comments you have made about Carlton. You say you are not convinced about them this year? Were you expecting them to win a flag this year? They have only just begun their attack. Judd and Fev are in their prime yes, but Murphy? He is 21-22. A year older than Gibbs. Carlton's younger group of players have years before they reach their prime. Some of them are now showing why they were rated so highly. The fact is Carlton still have a lot of improvement yet. You can't simply say they are going to push for a flag the year after they finished 11th on the ladder. That's ridiculous. This year they will make the finals as hawthorn did in 07. Next year will be where they will push for a top 4 spot and have a tilt. Back to the dees.. I have no doubt that we will be a great side in the coming years but I do wonder about our middle aged players who really should be coming on in leaps and bounds. Jones - I think he has shown enough to suggest he is a keeper. He is only 21-22. I think his disposal is the only thing that is hampering him from becoming a pretty damaging mid. Bate - While he is the same age as Jones, I really can't see him being part of our future. In my opinion he has way to many flaws to his game. For a forward these days he is too one dimensional. Hence why Lloyd struggles. Top heavy and sluggish. Newton - Enough said. Can't play at AFL level. Dunn - The same. Good VFL player at best. Miller - Hole plugger at the moment? Has been very serviceable nonetheless and he would benefit from having a couple of other KP forwards down there with him. Mclean - Don't know what's happened to him this year. I believe he is a great player but he seems to have lost leg speed and kicking ability. Really hope he can get it back. Ruck Division - I really really worry about it. Backline - The only area I am confident with at the moment. 21 and unders - I think we have a number of Gems but of course we all said the same thing when Bate, Newton, Dunn and co came along. I just really hope some of our middle ages players really show that they WANT to take their game to the next level. Go Dees.
  17. I for one really hope Bate isn't a part of our future. I believe he takes a valuable position on the ground but he has very little influence on games. I honestly don't know what people like about him.
  18. Offload at years end...... Rodent Killer.
  19. So so so very typical. One thrashing in a big game that's been way over hyped because of the inclusion of Watts and idiots like you start questioning whether Bailey is up to it. Jog on champ.
  20. Bell basher's... God do they annoy me. Bell has twice the kicking skills, speed and awareness as someone like Bate. Bell has earned his spot in the side and he is a great player who had a bad run of form last year. Bell is so much better than people make out on this forum. I find it ridiculous with the amount of slaggings he gets. I really hope this week he shows people why he was picked.
  21. The question itself is rather misleading... Are we rating them both to this current point in their careers? Is it about who has more upside for the future? To date, I would take Rioli over Morton in a heartbeat. Any Melbourne supporter that says otherwise is completely naive and biased because Cale plays for the dees. I don't care if they play different positions. Rioli has far greater impact on games than Cale does. In fact, I would back Rioli in nearly every situation over Cale TO THIS POINT IN TIME. Here are a list of skills I think Rioli holds over Cale. Kicking Speed Agility Tackling Marking Cale probably has a bigger tank and his work rate is elite. Honestly can't think of anything else. Yes one day he may be as good or better at these skills than Rioli, but at this point in time I would much rather have a Rioli running around in ANY position than have Cale accumulating a majority of loose ball gets/meaningless possessions. Think with your head people, not your hearts.
