  1. Yeah, Danners had cause to move me when I got a little close at Trinity a few years back!
  2. Yeah Trenners, upload them ... It was my first training session for the summer as well. I arrived just in time for the warm-up lap. There were 29 players in this bunch, and at least 25 coaches and assistants looking on. The crowd built up to about 70 later in the session, including Damien Hardwick (as already mentioned) and Justin Leppitsch, who stayed for 20 minutes or more. Players not sighted included Green, Moloney, Rivers, Bate, Garland, Tapscott, Morton, Martin, Dunn, Davey, Petterd, Sylvia, Frawley, Gawn, Batram, Spencer, Magner (although the last three made an appearance at the very end of what was a 100 minute session). Jamar, Williams, Lawrence, McKenzie, Jurrah, Strauss, Cook and Viney did not join in with the main group. Lawrence and Cook did a lot of sprinting, kicking on the run, under pressure and kicking for goal throughout the 100 minutes. Both trained at top pace and looked fit. Jurrah ran timed 200's with Strauss and Viney for a large part of the session. Viney looks to have grown considerably and is no longer a boy amongst men. He led the running with this group. Jurrah kept up for 2/3rds of session... dropping of the pace slightly by the end. McKenzie ran strongly throughout, mainly on his own. Couch, Bail, Trengove, Gysberts, Nicholson and Jones did some contested midfield work with Royal. This was done with lots of body contact and blocking. No one stood out, but Nicholson held his own and Couch looked competitive in close. Jetta wore the lime green vest throughout, avoiding body contact, but he impressed with his pace and intensity. Sellar, Davis, Grimes, Jetta, Bennell, Tom McDonald, Tynan and Sheahan worked together in another group. Tynan was impressive and appears to be fitting in very well. During the ball carrying, kicking to lead activities Clark impressed with his speed and kicking. Grimes was also skillful with ball placement in these sessions. Sellar, who is an impressive athlete, did quite well in contested situations. I was admiring how fit Howe looked (he may even have trimmed down) before he was injured in a contest with Davis. He did not reappear as reported earlier. It was during this activity that Leigh Brown joined an illustrious group of Demons, including Ron Barassi, Neale Daniher and doorman King who requested I remove myself from the vicinity! Gysberts did everything well. He looks a little stronger, but his poise and versatility is impressive. Jack Watts worked hard, and on most occasions impressed with the ball. However, there are a number of talls in the squad now so Jack is no longer a standout. The later running and strength activity was undertaken in three groups as follows. Jones, Trengove, Couch, Nicholson, Tom McDonald and Bail worked together. They pushed hard and the only thing of note was that Couch dropped off the back of this group late in the piece. He was stuffed! Grimes, Jetta, Clark, Bennell, Watts and Gysberts ran together with Leigh Brown, who blocked and bumped both Watts and Clark throughout the activity, simulating match conditions which was an impressive component of the new training regime. Tynan, Sellar, Fitzpatrick, Davis, Blease and Joel Mac made up the third group. General observations: Didn't notice Neeld at all. Misson was prominent in the warm-ups and track work. Royal was right into the mids group. Craig offered quiet support to individuals. Brown adds a lot in terms of the body work and the repetitive efforts. I'll add anything that comes to mind later!
  3. Has anyone mentioned Barassi? (yeah Bush Demon) Doc Roet, Don Williams (yeah 3031), Keenan, Elshaug?? Some others, hardly in their prime, Bamblett, Wilson, Charles,
  4. Webber... most enlightening and credible post of this nature that I have read for some time. I look forward to more...
  5. The concept "Jurrah... will he make it?" is about two years too late! What a gift to football!!!! Sit back and enjoy the ride. Who carese how many qualifying times he runs for 400m in November? Does anyone still doubt he is a freak? Yes, there are areas he can develop... but it ain't 'get ball, score goal'
  6. I like Nev, but that side-step has become predictable and clever opponents are waiting for it. Nev offers a lot but needs to develop his opposite side. I think he is good enough to take up the challenge.
  7. Not sure why my earlier post on this topic was lost in action but I think this deal lifts the flagging spirits of the majority of Dee supporters. Mitch Clark has been a major force in the past few BrisVegas v MFC games. I was impressed with his contested marking and athleticism. Well done to all who contributed to landing the big fish!
  8. Mitch Clark is a Demon - confirmed on the Fremantle site and MFC twitter over an hour ago. Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club Mitch Clark.
  9. Quick, good leap, versatile, young with experience... Can only go up from here!
  10. Fits the "hard at it", "hard at the opposition" tag that Neeld likes!
  11. a post with a positive prognosis! That's more like the supporter group we profess to be!
  12. I don't think the Club will burn another skipper on the back of the angst over Junior!
  13. I prefer the dinner chat rumour to the SMH headline... although the SMH have been accused of phone tapping!
  14. My Mum works as a check-out chic at Coles, Doncaster, and she said Isaac Weetra's mum told her he was going to Sydney tomorrow to have a look at their facilities. Apparently a press conference is set for 11.00am tomorrow in Sheeds lunch-box.
  15. Part of a thread I contributed to on Ology It is very difficult to find season stats for goals scored from free kicks. What I have found is that umpire Schmitt has adjudicated at Dees games on three occasions this year. Twice we have won when he umpired, Round 3 v BrisVegas, and Round 23 v Gold Coast. The most we have had any one umpire is 5 times. The AFL seem to do a reasonable job of rotating the panel through all teams. What I can tell you is who we have had most. We have had McBurney and Donion 5 times and Jeffrey and Ryan 4 times. In the 5 blow out games (blow out in free kicks against Dees) we have had Ryan 3 times and Donion 2 times. I'm not accusing any of these fine gentlemen of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
  16. he got the free from the softest of taps on the shoulder. Ft Pig gave the free from off the ball. Melbourne continually get screwed by free kick goals
  17. No... I say trade Jack Trengove. He must be worth something! Oh, hold on, we just signed him for four years... pity, because some other club would probably have given us something good for him. Well, how about Jeremy Howe? He will get dropped this week because he played like a dog against the Tiges. He isn't as good as a key forward should be in his first season. He's practically mature aged now, so let's move him on while he still has currency. TRADE PETTERD? HMPPH!!!
  18. Richmond had four frees inside fifty in the first Qtr. One was against Howe for holding the ball which was a very poor decision on two counts (which I have already referred to). Another was given to Miller when he dived forward after a tiny bump from McDonald. We had the one where Revolt 2 pushed off from Frawley (who instinctively grabbed at Revolt to avoid being pushed out of play). That one was not shown on the replay so it could have been right. I think the other one was the fifty given when Martin received a free then handballed to Cotchin, who Batram was ghosting, then Martin tries to apply the shepherd. However, baldy decides that Bartram was standing too close to Martin and pays a fifty!!!! The umpiring assisted the early blow out but if we didn't let the win as many clearances in the first place they wouldn't have had so many inside fifties!
  19. The worst part of that decision was he clearly made several attempts to punch the ball with a n opposition player sitting on his back... no prior and attempting to punch ball clear... If you don't mind you moronic excuse for an adjudicator who has a feel for the game!
