Finlay Macrae
I've always been a big fan on swapping future picks with the main reasons being: -Get the player now instead of 12 months time. -Develop that player 12 months ahead of the initial player you would of taken next year. -It's one of the only leg ups in the comp you can get these days. The other being getting a free agent (not having to trade for him). The Cons: -Sliding further down the ladder than expected and giving up a good pick. -Media scrutiny if you get it wrong. My question is, do we ask North if they'd be interested in swapping their pick 9 (most likely slide to 11) with our future 1st? We also can try Adelaide's Pick 8 and Freo's Pick 10. I'm pretty sure the Bulldogs and Collingwood will want to swap their 1st rounders this year due to wanting points for Academy picks, but they've got Picks 12 and 13 which will slide to about 16 and 17, which is probably not going to benefit us too much. By doing this, we can either get the best pure winger in the draft (Finlay Macrae) if he's still there at that pick, or we have an awesome pick to trade for an absolute gun if we can get one. Cal Twomey has Macrae at Pick 12 in his Phantom Draft, and the ESPN Mock Draft has him at 9. Write ups from Cal & Espn, and vision below if you haven't seen him. Let me know your thoughts on this. 184cm/75kg 13/3/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder The younger brother of Bulldogs star Jackson, Macrae would likely have been a high possession winner this season around the ball for the Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro. Macrae is like his older brother in that he can find the footy: he averaged 17 disposals for the Chargers playing some forward line time last year, including 22 touches and two goals in the preliminary final. A nice kick on both feet. -------------------------------------------- 9. Finlay Macrae Best position: Balanced midfield Height, weight: 184cm, 75kg Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers Projected draft range: 5-25 Preseason ranking: 3 Rationale: Younger brother of Western Bulldogs star Jack, Finlay is a mirror image of his older brother in the way he moves and plays. He also finds the ball just as easily. The main difference is Finlay is shorter. He drops on revision of upside after measuring in at the same height as 2019. Strengths: Class and composure in traffic, evasion, agility, speed, distribution by hand, clean ball user, production, improving contested ball-winner, improving inside midfield craft. Weaknesses: Unclear versatility, scoreboard impact.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
GWS could get an end of 1st round compo (pick 20) for Corr which would be a couple of picks better than Sydneys pick 22. These 2 picks will drift to about 27 and 29 which might be a good return for Preuss. GWS will have a couple of fringe players traded around the pick 25 to 35 mark. With all this and pick swaps, we should be ok to trade with them if we want a pick.

Delistings
I wouldn’t. He needs a bit more time. 24yrs old for someone who was a basketballer for most of his teen years, isn’t old in experience. His pace and versatility as a key back is something we should stick with. He’s got heaps more potential then Omac.

I personally would rookie Oscar. This will free up his salary from approx $300k to $75k, whilst still being a back up if needed. I would then draft a key position back with our 1st pick (only if we address our wing and key forward issues in the trade), which will provide back up, but more importantly, hopefully be May’s successor in 3 or 4 years time. I think Tomlinson and J.Smith are the 3rd and 4th key defenders now. Oscar can be the 5th, whilst our 1st pick in the draft could be our 6th. Could be 1 too many numbers in that position, but with Tomlinson and J.Smith still learning their role back there, I think it’s essential to have 6. Thoughts?

Farewell Braydon Preuss
We traded Tyson who was going ok at the time for Preuss + Pick 62. I’d think Tyson would of been rated a mid/late 2nd round pick at the time, which is pick 27 to 36 (in a normal year). Not far from what I said Preuss in worth. 6 years behind Goldy & Gawn would be why the 18 games. We’ll see who’s closer at trade time I guess, but I bet you bottom dollar he ain’t worth Picks 50-60, and he won’t be leaving the dees for that.

So a pick 50 to 60 for a ruckman that will be GWS’, Essendons or Sydney 1st ruck choice?! Would almost be Richmonds, Fremantles, Carltons & Geelongs 1st ruck! Don’t forget that a 3rd rounder this year is roughly 10 picks further down the order from normal years. He’s rated elite (56.4%) for hit out wins across his career and above average (6.6%) for hit outs to advantage. Still only 25yrs old. I would rate him between picks 25 and 35 for trade value and I hope our team push for this also.

Half the writers for the AFL website are laughable with some of the stuff they come up with, so I wouldn’t take anything they say with much respect! Pruess for a 3rd round pick, in a draft where the 1st round will be 25 odd picks, and same with the 2nd round....pfft

I do agree on some of what you're saying. Though, I would rate Brayshaw a very late 1st rounder/very early 2nd (Picks 15-22). He's still only 24 yrs old. Merrett is nearly a year older, so that would come into account a tiny bit. Brayshaw can crack our centre bounce time but is normally 4th banana due to the elite inside mids we have (probably the best inside mids in the comp). He would be in every other teams preferred centre bounce rotations in a heart beat. We have just got so much of an unbalance of spread of talent across the field. Too many of our better players are inside mids. In my view: -Merrett (worth Pick 8-15). -Brayshaw (worth Pick 15-22). The difference in my opinion is: 5 to 9 picks. Of course 5 to 9 picks late in the 1st round is valued very high, but it isn't worth more than an early/mid round 2 pick. Another way to look at it is, the draft points difference of a pick 8 (Merrett) to 15 (Brayshaw) is equivalent to pick 40, and the difference of a pick 15 to 22 is equivalent to pick 51. Worst case scenario IMO is If Merrett is Pick 8 and Brayshaw Pick 22 (the difference is equivalent to pick 27.

If we can’t get any picks that we like from GWS or Syd, would we do Pruess to Zac Foot (Syd)? I liked what I seen when he played. He’s out of contract, Victorian, quick, goal sense, can play wing or as a small forward. In my eyes, we need more of this type of player and less of the medium forwards that we have.

I’m pretty sure the gap between Merrett and Brayshaw isn’t a 1st rounder, even if we do swap later picks. Brayshaw has been played out of position due to being behind Oliver, Petracca & Viney in the guts, so his form doesn’t indicate his trade value unlike a player that has been played in the right position. Surely a 2nd rounder + Brayshaw will get it done.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
The Giants pick 39 might drop to 45 or 50, so that won’t get it done lads. I think they’ll have plenty of pick movement due to the amount of players leaving. Already have Z.Williams (most likely 1st round compo currently Pick 10 - pushed out to about Pick 15), Corr (most likely end of 1st round compo currently Pick 19 - pushed out to about 26). They’ll likely have about 2 more players leave which will mean more 2nd rounders for us to trade Pruess for. I’m not sure any of their out of contract players appeal too much for our needs. I like Cumming, but we need a winger and a big forward. I’m not sure we should be focusing too much on anything else. Unless Josh Kelly wants out, then we throw Pruess in with our Pick 23 and Future 1st ???

2020 NATIONAL DRAFT ORDER AND SELECTIONS
The Giants' second round selection No.28 will slide back to 39 due to points deficit

The rule you’re thinking about is you can only trade your future 1st without trading any other future selections, or you can trade out all other future rounds except your 1st.

2019 Contracts and List Details
Hey guys, See below for the rules on the playing list. In summary, we can only have 44 players all up (not including CAT B players). Because of the pre season (Lockhart + C.Wagner) and mid season (Dunkley) picks, we had 45 players by the end of this season. Basically, we need 1 less player than what we finished the season with. 16. Player Lists – 2018 - 2022 (a) Each AFL Club shall maintain their Lists during the Term as follows: (i) The number of Players on the Club’s Primary List shall be not more than 40 and not less than 38; (ii) The number of Players on the Club’s Category A Rookie List shall be not more than 6 provided that a Club must not have more than 44 Players on their Primary List and Category A Rookie List at any time; (iii) The number of Players on the Club’s Category B Rookie List shall be not more than 3. (b) Any amount paid to a Rookie Player in excess of the base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be included in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments. For the avoidance of doubt, the minimum base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be excluded in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments for each Rookie Player. (c) Players included on a Category A Rookie List shall be eligible for selection in a Match from 1 November 2017 notwithstanding any contrary provision in this Agreement or the AFL Rules. Prior to 31 October 2017, AFL shall make all necessary amendments to the AFL Rules so that they shall provide for a Player on a Category A Rookie List to be eligible for selection in any Match played after 1 November 2017.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
If we could work out the money to pay May, would Frost and our 2019 1st rounder be enough for GC? I don’t see how Frost would want to stick around being 4th in line Key Defender!

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
I doubt both Weideman and Curnow will be gone before our 2nd pick. We only have Ess and GC in between our picks, and I'm pretty sure GC won't pick up a tall fwd. They have Lynch, Day & Wright. And also, Essendon need young mids as well. In my opinion, they pick up one of Weideman or Curnow with their 1st pick. And their 2nd pick will be out of Balic, Francis, Milera or Parish (if we don't pick him at 3).

Collins is a gun with a senior body already. I wouldn't pick him up though as I like the T.McDonald - Frost future we have. We have Dunn and Garland as 3rd and 4th talls until O.McDonald is a regular. We need a speedy mid and a tall forward, which 2 top 10 picks should fill nicely. I'm a big fan on taking best available, but I think this is the last year of the so called rebuild, so we should fill spots of need. If we make finals from 2016 onwards, say goodbye to top 10 picks, so I reckon lets get what we need, then the boys can grow together and towards our 13th premiership. Gee, I can't wait for the day!!

Tom Boyd will be one of the best KPF one day, don't worry. I was more talking about how he moves. Especially his high marking.

Have a look a 2min27 in mate. Reminds me a bit of Tom Boyd. http://www.facebook.com/FutureStarsTV/videos/vb.130437356973525/1180023382014912/?type=2&theater.

Darcy Parish
Parish will most likely go 3 who ever has that pick. Because of Curnow's size, I think he could slip to around pick 10 to be honest. Clubs will bid high for Mills, Hopper & Kennedy, to make the Sydney clubs use high picks. There's obviously Weitering, Schache & Francis. Weideman is more your key forward who clubs will most likely favour instead of Curnow. So in my opinion, he falls at pick 8 at least. Then there's Balic who's a gun mid. Collins who's the 2nd best key back who I don't think will go past Adelaide's 1st pick (currently 9). And then there's Tucker.

Key Forward. 196cm. 91kg. If we don't trade our Pick 6, would we be better off going a Key Fwd instead of a midfielder type, to have a long term partner for Hogan? I've heard a couple of recruiters say if he wasn't injured this year, he would be a top 5 pick easily. Thoughts?
