  1. ? Yes those were the days. I also remember those ads from demon radio circa 1999
  2. I thought last week Adelaide were supposed to be a “scalp” however we beat them so well and by so much that they looked putrid and now they’re not a team , but one out of form and riddled with injuries and we’re just still flat track bullies who haven’t beaten anyone yet If we had won by 5 goals with Adelaide in the contest up to the end the narrative on Adelaide would be different , and then conversely the magnitude of our win (almost stupidly) would have been seen as greater in the eyes of some , as it would be seen as a real scalp ! FMD , just maybe Adelaide got beaten by a better side. Let’s see how Adelaide are now a magically a “top team “again when they have a redemptive win on the weekend . Like us as supporters the media has preconceived biases towards our team , we don’t fully trust them yet , and we see the reality of the incredible stats of the past month , yet we don’t believe it , it’s something of an outlier or an anomaly , as this is simply just not Melbourne like , and the universe will surely correct itself shortly and we’ll go back to our old ways . Well that’s what I (and many others mind you) thought of Richmond last year , maybe (just maybe) we might now be finally proven wrong about our own club too
  3. Interspersed with a whole lot of Energy Australia ads booming on that old scoreboard that eventually caught on fire ?
  4. Great memories here ! had this and dynamic demons on vhs (pbly now somewhere in dads garage) ... 98 was my first season as an MFC member (was in year 10 so had one of those concession 18 memberships IIRC) so watched a lot of footy live that year remember voice of the G and the half time PlayStation challenge , sitting on those old wooden seats in the 56 Olympic stand cheering on the Ox and the wizard we clicked and got momentum at the right time of year leading into finals , same in 2000. Funnily enough we copped a few smashings towards the mid season bye round and then came good and got on a run great to think we might finally now be getting back to September again ?
  5. No they created Malthouse as the Trojan horse to destroy Carlton
  6. Hmmmm.... essendrug are in a world of pain right now seems laughable a few months ago that media commentators like David king coined the phrase “the Tullamarine globetrotters” with their A+ mark trade period selections and top 4 smokeys predictions... an elite running midfield they said
  7. Benjamin??? Franklin... ?
  8. Thinking the Giants will get up in a close one tonight.... two losses in a row at home would put a bit of pressure on the cats
  9. Tom Boyd looks like Van Damme out of hard target , just add on the mo
  10. The only positive that can take out of our current situation atm is that we’re in almost exactly the same position as we were this time last year 2 -3 , in fact only difference is that we’ve finally beaten norf how we go against Essendrug on Sunday will tell us a lot , the next 4 rounds are all very gettable games , hopefully coinciding with the return of Viney and TMac
  11. Yep your right , and yet the blow out still came in the last
  12. The kicking down the line B /S was not working either , especially when our guys don’t crumb the first 2 1/2 qtrs reminded me how we played in 2014 , didn’t concede much but didn’t look like scoring
  13. Fumbling under pressure shows were not up to playing finals footy just yet having Viney at the clearances would have been nice tonight also seems the reigning premiers get a free pass from the umps to throw the ball max needs to learn to kick and lower the eyes, those floater passes inside 50 are a liability stretch supposedly has pace , but doesn’t run well done to clarry for pinging Martin , even though the umps fail to call it And Riewoldt is a hack , junk time specialist
  14. We would actually need to thump a couple of bottom teams , we’re lucky enough if we just get over the line . Our biggest winning margin last year was under 10 goals , hence one of the main reasons our % was not flash
  15. 2 of Adelaide’s 4 goals from dubious 50m penalties , just shows how bad they’ve been
  16. Crows players must still be wearing the blindfolds from their camp
  17. Very close to pushing the mute button right now ... thanks BT
  18. Adelaide’s only goal that quarter was from a rubbish 50m penalty
  19. Wow ... Adelaide really spudding it up now. 4 goals down already
  20. I did notice in the last quarter against norf once we had the 4 goal lead we were a lot more measured and patient, couple of times Lewis and jones held the ball up and we went laterally and built up our attack (as opposed to a quick press forward) , and each time norf got a goal we were able to respond in kind . I don’t think the game wasnt necessarily iced yet as there was still lots of time, but every time norf tried to pull one back we were composed and immediately responded, and looked comfortable that they weren’t able to get back to back goals and make a run against us
  21. I’m still yet to see a team this year really put in a four quarter effort (and completely dominate a game , maybe barring Adelaide over the aints and rd 1/2 against the dogs) I think we still aren’t grasping the fact that this competition is as tight as has ever been, there are no easy wins against bottom sides, games will be subject to reverse momentum swings all the time, sides will hit back (often assisted by umpire momentum) this is not the same competition 10 years or so ago where a top 4 team would routinely spank bottom 4 sides by 12+ goals yes agree these quarter lapses are something we need to react to much better and to slow down opposition momentum, but for us to consistently expect 4 quarter dominations as being conducive to being a top 4 side , IMO is being slightly unrealistic. We need to win ugly those games when we’re not 100% on where previously we would have lost, and then we need those handful of games where we smash an opponent, we didn’t do the latter last year and % cost us .
  22. Apparently we can be both “soft” and “the real deal” according to Danny Frawley... just when it suits him to change his narrative. Too many wannabe journos looking for click bait headlines https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/04/08/melbourne-the-real-deal-says-frawley/
  23. Agreed Dr , he definitely knows and respects the history of the game
  24. I think he’s just channeling the great Lou Richards commentating style , a bit of old school from Edward
