  1. Salem will be a versatile small, able to play a rebounding defender role, a wing or a high half forward - most of these already can do competently. He does hold his spot in the 22, only being dropped momentarily due to indifferent form after being rushed back from injury. You also may be conveniently forgetting the time he has lost to development due to unlucky thyroid issues and injuries. I'd probably question your ability to assess a player's role, scope and his place in the pecking order, based on your previous post. Either way, his penetrating disposal is not easily replaced, and his hardness underrated. Weideman may not be as versatile as Curnow, but he will become a very capable forward.
  2. Doesn't fit needs. Hard at it, love his attack, but could see him becoming a turnover merchant at AFL level, at least for a time (when we really need someone who will contribute, based on the development of our list profile). Those stiff arms won't come off as easily at the next level, nor will the blind turns and the very suspect kicking.
  3. Has the odd blinder where he hits targets for most of the match & the ball bounces his way, but then goes back to being a butcher. Not the answer.
  4. If that's the caliber of player available at pick 10 this year, I'd much rather trade it. O'Brien has a good penetrating kick and looks capable overhead, but nothing exceptional. Clarke is a good honest meat& potatoes type with an ordinary kick. Stephenson looks like a Cale Morton & I'd be hesitant using a 3rd rounder on him. Not sure I'm a fan of the pick 9 comment either. Salem is great value for pick 9 & Weideman also looks like being a very capable forward longterm. There's always a few out of the box that could have been better selections in retrospect, but I think Taylor has done his job and not wasted the selections like in the past.
  5. Lack of agility too. He no longer has the sidestep to get around oncoming opponents, giving him the space to kick with precision. He's always throwing it onto his boot hurriedly and trying to kick around corners under intense pressure. He doesn't have the physical tools to create space for himself anymore.
  6. Shockingly, 30 seconds of research on my phone while waiting at a tram stop reveals that Brown & Weideman were at Eastern Ranges together & would likely be mates. ooh, conspiracy! FFS.
  7. Paid it because whether I pay subs now or in 6 months time, I still have to pay them if I want to keep my membership. Might as well have the option of attending finals matches if I choose to. Not sure what the problem is?
  8. With all due respect, one of the stupidest lines that gets trotted out from time to time.
  9. Wow, that was weird. Anyway, I'm not really bothered if we don't get a first round pick -- if Viney, Taylor, et al continue to pick up gems like Hannan later in the draft, I couldn't care less whether we have a first rounder this year or not. Culture & environment are so much more important than where you sit in the eyes of "experts" as a 17 year old.

  11. The pies have just shelved De Goey for the rest of the season, booking him in for surgery on his hip flexor. Doesn't hurt.
  12. Short memories. Nice bloke, polite; fiddled while Rome burned.
  13. Momentarily becomes a favourite son when he kicks a long goal, but after 5 mins back to "bloody milkshake"
  14. He did, but at that stage Hunt hadn't played a game, Wagner was not on the list, and Salem had been played as a forward. Fortunately Mellsham now has the flexibility to play anywhere on the field and should be able to do it to a consistent standard.
  15. Carries on like a spoilt brat, big average player. Maybe you should stick to making predictions of Majak Daw's superstardom 'tention.
  16. It doesn't always make a difference, but I think many forget that Hogan barracked for the Crows as a youngster. It would have made a difference for me if I was gifted enough. Just a sweetener, but a difference nonetheless.
  17. I think we missed Hannan more than most realise. The pressure he applies with his agility and pace has been integral this season and is not easily replace.
  18. McCartney said it all when he reportedly spoke pregame about players resetting to their default when under stress. We've seen it consistently with Watts earlier in the season. I think he just needs a recalibration (along with a few others). The return from injuries of many of our players has not been managed as well as you'd like, maybe due to circumstances.
  19. Petracca & Oliver probably also need teammates who are working harder to create an option to kick to, or more switched on so they are doing it when they should be (not thinking about it when it's too late).
  20. Pedersen works as a first choice (out of necessity) break-even ruckman who then becomes an extra midfielder that likes to float forward. He doesn't work in any other role for mine.
  21. I remember about 5-6 years ago talking to a couple Geelong fringe 22 players who were left out of a finals side - during this particular final (semi/prelim, can't recall) they were actively barracking for a Cats loss because they didn't want to eventually miss out on a flag by omission. I was surprised by how vocal they were while watching the match. This is from players at a club who at this time was seen to be setting the industry standard for culture & buy-in.
  22. Making a long weekend of it. I think the seats I got are in the Ponting Stand, but I'm not convinced the Roos would ever pull a big crowd of keen supporters there, least of all at the end of a very disappointing bottom 4 season against a rampaging top 4 chance. And if I end up in the middle of them, my god are they going to hear about it.
  23. Reclaiming? As if it's theirs to take, and they just allow us to have it. Get [censored] Eddie. Anyone else enjoying the implosion at the pies? My only concern is that Derek Hine will justifiably get the sack, and that Eddie will come for Jason Taylor. Let's be realistic, his job isn't "done" at MFC, but the days of bountiful early picks and high list turnover are hopefully gone, although it does limit his role somewhat.
  24. Surely that can't be correct... Someone actually watched the Footy Show?
