Frankston Oval (Kinetic Stadium)
Timothy Reddan-A'Blew replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in AFL National Women's League
All of the above. Here's my obs, fwiw. Definitely up to the mark for AFLW games. I might check out a Casey game there now; I suspect it's good for VFL, too. No AFL scope, though. The grass looks (and feels) like Casey, almost carpet-like. It's extraordinary that such large areas can be kept in such condition. Casey has come on quite a bit since Melbourne's first games there, iirc. I noted elsewhere Eliza McNamara, post-match, pointing out the narrow wings, the consequent issues, and how they dealt with them, and my observation the experience might help them with KP on Thursday. The pockets there are deeper, for the width, though, I think? Frankston is more a true oval, squeezed. I'm not sure pockets are such a problem, though, for 16-a-side and the AFLW game style. Frankston's flatter than Casey, too, so, with the narrowness, it's easier to see the action on the far side. I watched from the south wing for 3 quarters then the beach end in the last. Tough the sunset reflected off the northern stand windows, while magic, was a brief viewing challenge! Off field, the facilities were more community market style, with multiple food van offerings and kids activities, at the beach end. So, a somewhat more community experience and atmosphere than Casey. Street parking proved OK, after a bit of a drive-around. There's no 'broad-acre' car parking à la Casey. I could have done without the PA'd calls to 'Make some noise, Hawks fans!' And they really didn't. -
Sorry, IRW; it did sound like I was mounting an argument. But, as 'Mad As Hell' (aren't we all?!) character Chris Lorax would say, it was 'Just a bit of fun...' Missed the mark, obviously. And anyway, embarrassingly, I think I did get my facts wrong: was it Collingwood and Carlton only we and Essendon beat? Nice to be considered childish, though, approaching the big Seven-O! (see, I can't help myself😁)
-
Just us and Essendon, who beat us. Go figure. And yes, we did. But I'm hoping to enjoy 2024 on its merits, not with baggage. And meanwhile we've got this: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/1436492/aflw-team-song-melbourne?videoId=1436492&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1695373342001

Welcome to Demonland: Shane McAdam
Timothy Reddan-A'Blew replied to FrothiesLiam's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seeing it - or at least hearing it - we'll get Derwayne on side, at least! He looks like a 75% Fritsch/Pickett. Not sure then, if (when?) we want a true, imposing KPF. But cheaply, and for a low pick? Can't hurt. -
AFLW: Rd 04 vs Hawthorn

I'd thought that, too, GM; the red yoke should go across the width of the shoulders if it's to match the traditional guernsey. However, see my post now on the Votes thread: another angle, shall we say? -
AFLW VOTES: Rd 04 vs Hawthorn
Timothy Reddan-A'Blew replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in AFL National Women's League
Couldn't think of anywhere else for this. Maybe there's a link in how difficult it is to select 6 vote-worthys from this Super team? Anyways, is it just me or is there something of the DC Comic in the girls' long sleeve strip, rocked by Banno, Goldy and The Sherrif?... -

You can 'roll' out the obverse again on Thursday, W 😁 It was good, by the way, that they had a go at a narrow ground yesterday, as preparation for that other 'K' Park on Thursday. Eliza McNamara noted the issue, and how they dealt with it, in her post match. And did you notice who kicked their goal? Little fist pump?😉 -

13 in a row and counting. And 13 goalless oppo last quarters to go with it, according to @Craig T Hawks very fumbly but they weren't going to get near The Machine anyway. Agree with the various player observations (except Birch: harsh!) L. Pearce back to her injury-free(?) best - great chase and smother in front of the DA leading to a goal. -

It does attract wordplays, doesn't it, often of the salty variety. DubDee's of an hour ago, innocently Aussie, is a mistake I once made in refeened company. Never again! -

Yep. Per her post-selection interview (see OP), in her own words she's been 'in and around the half forward line...trying to create scores for the girls in front'. Looking at her Gaelic footy vision, if she's made the transition from round to oval ball, her delivery skills shouldn't be a problem! -

Andrew Dillon is the Next AFL CEO
Timothy Reddan-A'Blew replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mentors, @Mincho Mania and @DeeZone? I'm imagining something nearer parents: he's arrived at his apparent destiny, has ANDREW D(emetriou/G)ILLON(McLachlan)! And speaking of Dill'n'Gill, the 'Front Bar' lads had them on for a grill last night. Bit of fun. -

Timothy Reddan-A'Blew replied to Timothy Reddan-A'Blew's topic in Melbourne Demons
My OP was just at a specific emotional level, DD; the boys finals are dead to me now (unless Collingwood and Carlton both crash and burn...) I've moved on, very happily, to the girls' very entertaining campaign. -
Tomorrow night: Jesse and Toby; yes, please. Jeremy, not so much, thank you
