We were less than 1% from finishing 12th, which would have seen us in the middle-six play-twice group with WBulldogs, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle and Essendon. At 14th we score Gold Coast, Adelaide, West Coast, North and Richmond. So, looking to the far end of 2025, we might have dodged final-round bullets in Collingwood (again!), Carlton or Freo away. Each time I see our talent enumerated in its quality, breadth and depth - as you have here, DeeZ - it makes me realise how important, then, are a coached effective method and player buy-in to that method. Then I realise the frustration that we can only get a sense of the method and buy-in from the players' play (successful or otherwise!) Serious question: these different characteristics that a midfield needs to provide - inside / outside / run & carry / ball use / etc - If players don't have all or most of them, how is a game plan based on a particular combination of them sustained through rotations? My point: Players need all or most of the characteristics; so, for example, 'elite ball user' (just using this as an example, sons; it could have been any of the 'needs' that come up herein) isn't enough by itself. Discuss?
