Rating 2021 team Against 1998, 2000 & 2018
Garbo replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
To be the best we still need to do it in finals and luck with injuries will have some say in that. But so far as in the regular seasons go we are on track to have our best year to date. I think I heard during the broadcast on Friday our highest number of wins in the regular season is 16, we will surely break that record. Have add in my time following since the mid 80s I always envied other teams who had the super star players that you hated but would love to have, even in our best years I don’t think we truely had one. ( ie the Ablett's, Hirds, Judd’s, Franklins of the world), I’m confident in saying we finally have that and not just one. -
Listening to Goodwin on Saturday he didn’t sound like he was unhappy with Melksham, he was specifically asked and said he had been building form the last month till Friday. Not sure y he get to build form in the seniors but obviously Goodwin thinks he is central to our plans
-
Why would you move Langdon or Brayshaw off the wing where they are both playing well just to try and manufacture a way to keep an underperforming player in the team.
-
Rayner is also missing, he’s easily in there best 22. It’s a good test, if we beat them tomorrow, then we can beat them come finals no issue, this will be there best chance. Loose and we have some excuses.
-
Wonder if Neale back will throw off the balance there team has had over the last month or so, we might have an opportunity just like vs dogs to get them early
-
He just needs to work harder, doesn’t get himself to enough contests, doesn't make repeat leads and loose his opponents. Nearly every dropped mark is in a pack, even for the best that is a low percentage mark. Out on the lead his marking is good as any.
-
Any idea if the guys are able to train a one group atm or are we stuck training in smaller groups, if so that’s going to be a huge disadvantage vs the interstate sides or the sides that already left vic
-
Maybe ben brown comes in and tmac moves to the wing for a week.
-
Wonder why they don’t have dees play pies this week and move the lions bye fwd one week, then we play lions at g on queen’s birthday hopefully, crows can then play pies in sa also as intended
-
Home game for dogs today, I don’t think a loss means we can’t win the flag. If we get beaten badly today and again when we play at the g later in the year then maybe, but even then it’s the finals that count every other game is the same 4 points. Unless we go off the deep end we are almost certain to finish top 4 probably top 2 regardless of tonight’s result

Can’t see our fwd line creating enough pressure with fritsch, wied and melksham in particular to stop dogs running the ball out and cutting us open before we can setup in defence. At least one had to go out for another mid so either trac or harmes could spend more time fwd.
-
Have to think dees v lions next week will either by posted like the hawks and suns this week or moved to back to Melbourne
-
Damm so disappointed Viney is still out, surely we need to bring in another pure mid vs dogs at any rate. Even with them missing 2 quality mids they still go deeper than us. Also who goes to Weightman, feel like he’s the type we have no matchup for.
-
I just assumed hibbard would play the same role on Bont as he did dusty.
-
Highly unlikely anyone would be positive, but it does interrupt there preparation which can only be an advantage for us.
-
Since day one, I’ve always thought Oliver had the potential to be our best player in the last 50 years. A hell of a thing if it happens considering the company in this team.
-
Looking at the Casey game maybe baker comes in for hunt, if Ben Brown is a no go then maybe the other brown wouldn’t be the worst idea. He is still a tall but brings a bit more than either when it goes to ground like pedo back in the day
-
Not sure what you are both going off but in Goodwins media conference late last week he said Viney just needed to tick the boxes to be available vs dogs. That’s obviously not a guarantee but to me says there is a path to him playing
-
Fritsch kicked 3 last week, not sure how that’s a shocker. It’s a damm sight more than wied has shown so far this year. Perhaps if weid commanded a better defender like Brown would it would allow Fritsch to have more impact since he would get the 3rd or 4th defender. Jordan still played his role but we need Viney back ASAP, I’d still rather see Melksham out before Jordan at least he tackles and brings pressure. Hunt should also be in the crosshairs his output has dropped off over the last few weeks.
-
Wied doesn’t offer enough and doesn’t even get the best defender, at least with brown in he takes the number one tall so tmac gets 2 and Jackson 3 ect. Plus brown has a proven record of kicking goals over many years and wied doesn’t. A few tackles from wied isn’t enough to make up for that as neither provide much defensive pressure. If that’s the reasoning for keeping weid in then I’d play neither. Bring in Mitch Brown or play another midsize up fwd. The talls are primarily there to kick goals, take marks and create opportunities for our smalls to crumb.
-
Not to fussed if it’s BB or wied we need to see both and Brown had 3 weeks (1 good, one average, one poor), now Weid has a turn without needing to ruck, my personal feeling is Brown requires a better defender there for tmac gets more space. But we will have to see on that. Melksham makes no sense to me, didn’t play at all last week and comes straight back in, surely someone who has been performing in the vfl deserves a run, feel like he doesn’t need to earn a spot for some reason.
-
It’s easy to find at least a couple of reasons we might loose with any game, so unless every game is a danger game then I couldn’t disagree more strongly. The reasons we should win this far outweigh the reasons we loose, crows are in the bottom 4 and we are undefeated for a reason.
-
Problem is if Jackson comes back in then Weids ruck work is moot, and so your choice needs to be predominately judged based on there fwd output, neither showed much today but brown has 2 prior weeks on the board, either way at least one will need to go and so far Brown maybe just by virtue of been first in has the edge. It’s also possible both go out I certainly haven’t liked our fwd pressure the last 2 weeks, it’s coming out way to easily.
-
Once they are fit Viney and Jackson come straight back in, from today’s team you would probably have no choice but to drop Chandler and Weid, I’d like to see Weid get one more but no argument that Jackson is a far superior backup for gawn and more useful around the ground and unfortunately for Weid he didn’t fire a shot in front of goal
-
Concerned we once again lost the clearance game, and again tackles inside 50 were down, rather than rely on the backline as a backup we now need them in order to compete, going to be ugly vs dogs in a few weeks if we can’t fix it
