  1. It’s only eight scoring shots to nine. We are not putting any scoring pressure which makes players out their heads down
  2. Isn’t it sad that the half time show has a consideration in the GF start time. They want to make it like the super bowl where the half time show has its on narrative. God if I hate the AFL
  3. I think you are correct in the problem but incorrect in the solution. A coach needs to design a game plan around the players at his disposal. He need to use their strengths and design plans that avoid their weaknesses. Goodwin has come in and talked about a style that will hold up in finals football. He then has implemented a plan regardless of the players and jettisons players that he doesn’t believe fit his mould, both Dunn and Watts being prime examples. The issue with this is you never get the perfect players and injuries require you adapt etc etc
  4. Only because they get overpaid. Where would Jones be in Geelongs pay scale? Maybe around then ten mark? Instead he has been one of our highest players. I think someone at the at the club made a comment about the Dawes’ contract that they have to pay someone. I think is one of our issues at the club. We pay 100% of the salary cap yet have been out of the finals for over a decade? If the KPI is to win matches/make finals surely we haven’t achieve it and only in the AFL do you get paid regardless of their performance.
  5. I like how they don’t comment that rance has been touched up... Rance has done some great defensive saves but a half fwd has kicked three on him
  6. Six dropping the balls and you call that one
  7. Gees the tigers throw the footy with the over the head handball
  8. God dam Neil bullen... thats just stupid
  9. I don’t think Brown did that much... very lucky with 3 of his frees...
  10. Given the complaint was made in early October and the four players (who were in Bali) have ‘allegedly’ already been interviewed by the AFL integrity unit. I think it was already under the carpet.
  11. No problem, maybe you should get over yourself. Nothing will happen as it was in Indonesia but the lack of a guilty verdict in court (which you seem to imply is required) doesn’t mean an incident didn’t happen.
  12. Seems the victims sort clarification from Victoria Police if there was anything that could be done in Australia and was advised no. Hence why no statements etc were taken. I dont think it happens here much her much but it seems in the US the star sports player never go down criminally but always go down when sued by the victim. Maybe it’s the different onus of proof. Unless the victim was to sue the player then it doesn’t appear this will see the light of day (the allegations). Does that happen much in Australia, as I can’t recall any major cases??
  13. Doesn’t the difference of opinion on this very but board demonstrate how it will fracture people inside the club? The posters calling out the players (it whatever terms) are supporting the club as this was a club sanctioned activity. The posters supporting the players are believing the club overstepped the mark. The club will attempt to sweep this under the carpet (as it should and already has) as it doesn’t want its dirty laundry aired in public. The problem is there will be two very different views on how this problem was addressed. Coaches lossing players or clubs picking Star players of coaches or verse versa hasn’t been litter throughout history. It remains to be seen if this is easily fixed or will fester below the surface. Those thinking this is a non story are kidding themselves.
  14. I don’t think the gripe by the players was doing a camp but the extreme nature of it and when it was position (ie just before Christmas break) Some of the extreme things (which is designed to fatigue, annoy and bring out your personality/resilience) including getting up in the middle of the night to do meaningless tasks, standing guard in shifts will others slept, not being able to talk to each other for six hours, not having a structure training plan (ie not getting told when the activity will stop, how far you are walking et etc). All these activities are designed to break you down as the human mind demands structure. They are an attempt to get your mind to quit on you whilst showing you your body can go well beyond what you mind thinks it can.
  15. We have been informed that it started with some senior players who then involved juniors players. The group has ‘some’ leadership group figures there were 14 players without trying too hard to figure it out the senior players would have had runs on the board and been firmly in the best 22. There is alway grumbling in a locker room but to take it to the next step you aren’t going to put yourself out there unless you know your position in the team/club.
  16. I’m picking Lewis to be in the thick of it as Jones doesn’t seem the type. The old we didn’t do anything like this at hawthorn and won four flags.... *** this is is a complete character assassination without any knowledge
  17. I don’t want to be all doom and gloom with outlandish statements but having been in the Military, I have seen this exact type of incidents occur. the dynamics of this current football group are ninth balanced and actions taken over the next few months will determine how they gel together. I find group dynamatics especially interesting. In the military the soldiers would rebel against ateam leader (usually an officer) usually when they felt they were doing dumb sh^t or stuffing them around. If decision were changed or events changed it create an elephant in the room regarding who actually ran the team. A similar event would occur later and the team leader who experience the rebelling now attempting the to command at something else. The way the soldiers reacted to his directions would set scene and provide insight to this team’s future. It could mean that everyone forgets about what occurred and everything returns to normal . The most likely outcome is that there is always a later event that brings out the elephant which as lurking in the room out. And how these events are managed provides inidiciations for any problems. the coach will be the most aggreivated as it was his authority that was challenged. I just hope he has some good mentors around the club to enable him to lower the angry with it effect the group. maybe guys like pj or Macca may help not like Mahoney won’t. If he still can bounce things if Roos then that would be a good outcome. Al Clarkton would be anyother people to see for some guidance
  18. Wise you played football at a reasonable level and I assume participated in these boot camp type training activities. It’s obvious that you don’t rate them and that is coming through in your answers which justifies the players behaviour. Whilst you may not rate this type of training you are avoid the issue which is the senior coach of the MFC did.
  19. IF the players were asked to 100 x 100 but believed they received no benefit after 80 and can get injured in the last 20 because of muscle fatigue do they have the right to overall the coach, FD and conditioning staff with their beliefs??? Who makes the decision on benefits given the expertise hired in the football department (including conditioning staff). Whilst most n DL will poo-poo this scenario as ‘100x 100’ is known to be achievable and a ‘boot camp’ is extreme training where is the line drawn?? Who controls the decision, the playing group or the coaching group? Those saying this a nothing event really don’t understanding that the playing group is made up of 40 individuals and then there is 20 something in the football department. There will be difference in opinions and friction but these events are usually resolved through communication. This was attempted in this incident and thus there is now a dynamic in the football group about who has control. This wont be resolved in the public and you have to be inside the 65 football group to know exactly how it plays out.
  20. I made an error in the timeline as the players approached the ALFPA directly and the club responded with briefings From Drunken two days ago “Now, last Monday Goody told the playing group that the camp would be happening again this year from 18th-20th before breaking for Christmas. Immediately quite a number of players where very much against this for a variety of reasons (including players from the Leadership group), so a group approached the AFLPA to ask how to handle the situation. The MFC staff caught wind of this, so Goodwin gave a presentation last Thursday explaining what they wanted to get from the camp, and explaining that this time they will be bringing a larger amount of medical staff and ensure players were well fed (apparently the food/nutrition last year wasn't the best) Even after this talk, still quite a high number of players were very unhappy about having to do the course again. So over the weekend the Leadership group and AFLPA met with MFC Coaches/high level staff to discuss the situation, reportedly getting quite feisty at times. The club did have the official final say on the matter, and chose to call the camp off. Monday morning Goodwin gathered all the players and told them the camp was being called off due to the high number of players who raised concerns with it, and he said he wasn't angry but very disappointed because he felt they had given enough information to the players that their health and safety concerns were going to be handled appropriately. However throughout the day the players could tell Goodwin and some other coaches were indeed pretty unhappy with the playing group (when you work with people for long enough you can tell pretty clearly when they are not in the best mood) “ So the club addresses the health and safety issues and increased the medical staff etc but the players weren’t happy
  21. It’s easy to follow the club PR line if you don’t live in the real world or want to escape criticism. From another poster the timeline was the following; 1. camp was announced on Monday, 2. Players announced their concerns, 3. Players were formally briefed by coach/FD on Thursday, 4. Players seek out ALFPA for guidanc on how to reraise Concerns, 5. Meeting with FD, leadership group, ALFPA, 6. Camp cancelled. What at we can ascertain is that the players had their concerns raised and the club provided assurances etc. The coach/FD wanted the camp to continue, you would assume that the conditioning staff are consulted prior to the camp being organised. The club did not appease the players concerns which you believe was over a loss of conditioning. The players were involved the union.
