Finals: Week 3
Sweet FA from Dixon didn't help Port's cause either

Finals: Week 3
The gesticulating by every player within 50m of the ball appealing deliberate out of bounds is what gets me

Finals: Week 3
Gotta feel for Port after the year they've had. Richmond in 2017 was good I guess but FMD hearing Cotchin talk about how he and his wife think the Tigers group is so special is getting really [censored] tiring.

Farewell Harley, we hardly knew you- 2020 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Trophy
Weid is top 10.....?- 2020 Keith "Bluey" Truscott Trophy
Langdon is an impressive individual. Speaking off the cuff and for once someone who doesn't just "thank the boys". Some class from Viney in thanking the Wagners and Dunkley as well.- The 2020 Trade Period
Just elaborating a little further, TMac has, in no uncertain terms, requested to be traded out of MFC for a number of reasons that are plain to see. OMac on the other hand and somewhat seperate from TMac, is keen to gauge what if/any interest exists for his services and at this stage is on more of a fishing expedition than anything else.- The 2020 Trade Period

Reposting - issues at this end and DL too by the looks... Apologies a few technical issues at Chateau Fog this morning. Here's a few thoughts for this afternoon at headquarters and Rosehill: (I've tried to go with picks that haven't been posted already, but apologies if I'm doubling up anywhere) Best Bets: Flemington Race 5, No. 7 - Toffee Tongue - it's a wide field and I also like Shot of Irish and Aktau in this race, Toffee Tongue EW I think Race 7, No. 4 - Fierce Impact - again, another wide field and I also like the look of Russian Camelot and Master of Wine, EW again I think... Rosehill Race 5, no. 7 - Mo'unga Race 6, No. 1 - Farnan Race 7, No. 5 - Funstar Best Value: Flemington Race 9, No. 13 - Yoesmite Race 6, No. 5 - Tshahitsi- A Day at the Races

Looking forward to the same old Melbourne are soft, not hungry, mediocre and have [censored] their finals chances up the wall trope from my non-MFC supporting mates. Not.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle

I didn't say anything about the players we have. I said Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney and maybe Richmond have been able to achieve, to varying degrees, sustainable success without consistently high picks or massive trades. Now of course there's exceptions to everything - Dangerfield, Franklin, Lynch etc. But they've developed the players they have or strategically targeted players they think they can develop. Case in point: take the Hawthorn sides of the three-peat years, a cursory look through their squad confirms, give or take, seven players that were top 20 picks by Hawthorn, and most of those were the players from the 'super-draft' years in the mid-2000's namely Hodge, Roughead, Lewis, Rioli etc. and all developed over a period of time by Clarkson and the support structures around them. The rest are picks +30 that they've nurtured to their potential or players they've secured from other clubs and rejuvenated - McEvoy, Hale, Burgoyne, Gibson, Lake, *cough* Frawley. That's moneyball. We seem unwilling and/or unable to do this.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
Spot on re Langdon. He's probably our only shining light from the last couple of weeks, yet was played out of position Opting for Preuss deep in the forward line in the torrential rain, not to mention selecting him over Brown is another. This seems like a coaching panel clutching at straws. The mind boggles.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
It's all well and good to say that we need better players, not sub par/VFL standard etc. players. This doesn't just happen through high draft picks and expensive trades. There simply isn't the supply of players that are both quality and available, not to mention you generally need to pay over the odds to prise players from another club. So the key is to develop what you have and/or draft strategically and place elite development resources and support structures around the players. The great sides of the last 20-ish have all done this in a sustainable way - Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Richmond (?) That's true moneyball, and I don't see us doing this. Goodwin's game plan relies on the individual brilliance of some highly touted players - Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, May. So when they stink it up or are well held there isn't the depth or game structure to adapt.- POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
