ANOTHER WASTED SEASON WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO?
Looking forward to the same old Melbourne are soft, not hungry, mediocre and have [censored] their finals chances up the wall trope from my non-MFC supporting mates. Not.

I didn't say anything about the players we have. I said Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney and maybe Richmond have been able to achieve, to varying degrees, sustainable success without consistently high picks or massive trades. Now of course there's exceptions to everything - Dangerfield, Franklin, Lynch etc. But they've developed the players they have or strategically targeted players they think they can develop. Case in point: take the Hawthorn sides of the three-peat years, a cursory look through their squad confirms, give or take, seven players that were top 20 picks by Hawthorn, and most of those were the players from the 'super-draft' years in the mid-2000's namely Hodge, Roughead, Lewis, Rioli etc. and all developed over a period of time by Clarkson and the support structures around them. The rest are picks +30 that they've nurtured to their potential or players they've secured from other clubs and rejuvenated - McEvoy, Hale, Burgoyne, Gibson, Lake, *cough* Frawley. That's moneyball. We seem unwilling and/or unable to do this.

Spot on re Langdon. He's probably our only shining light from the last couple of weeks, yet was played out of position Opting for Preuss deep in the forward line in the torrential rain, not to mention selecting him over Brown is another. This seems like a coaching panel clutching at straws. The mind boggles.

It's all well and good to say that we need better players, not sub par/VFL standard etc. players. This doesn't just happen through high draft picks and expensive trades. There simply isn't the supply of players that are both quality and available, not to mention you generally need to pay over the odds to prise players from another club. So the key is to develop what you have and/or draft strategically and place elite development resources and support structures around the players. The great sides of the last 20-ish have all done this in a sustainable way - Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Richmond (?) That's true moneyball, and I don't see us doing this. Goodwin's game plan relies on the individual brilliance of some highly touted players - Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, May. So when they stink it up or are well held there isn't the depth or game structure to adapt.

Who should our next coach be?
It's all a deep state conspiracy - Pert is a Collingwood plant installed to ensure a ceiling is kept on a potential MFC rise and to see off any threat of a land grab around the Olympic Park precinct.

Who should our next coach be?
Goodwin is not going anywhere. Not saying I agree, it's just the reality. Also...Ross Lyon, Adem Yze, Jordan Lewis.

Max Gawn is Captain in 2020
And look how that captaincy ended. Our last great leader was retired by the club before his time. Leadership issues are endemic on and off the field for us.

Not sure about the Brown omission, he's been pretty handy the last couple of weeks. Also Melksham must have pictures of Goodwin.

Italian GP qualifying is also on right now if that's your scene. I've got a few quid on Aussie Dan to make it through to Q3.

I had a couple of SGM's on for the Port vs North game too and both fell over by one leg! Higgins +20 touches, ended on 19 and Duursma +15 touches, ended on 14. I swear my SGM's are cursed, I'm the master of falling over by one leg!!

My 3 word player analysis V Sydney
I take your point Bman, and agree too. Driving the 1972 RX-3 doesn't have the same ring to it. For mine, they're a Ford Mustang: dominant and iconic in the 1960's with subsequent iterations showing signs but ultimately delivering slumping results and failing to capture the imagination of the public.

My 3 word player analysis V Sydney
Goodwin has been driving the Ferrari for a couple of years now. He had some of the biggest, if not the biggest, expectations on him going into 2020 and COVID/Season 2020 as we now know it has seemingly deflected the spotlight away from this. Plus there's the narrative going around that no club could possibly part ways with senior coaches this year. I think he's going to make it through, but there cannot be anywhere to hide in 2021. For what it's worth, the mind still boggles with the four year contract extension ahead of the 2019 season, when seemingly there was no threat of him going elsewhere anyway.

Fritsch Magnet
We plucked him from obscurity and made him into what he is today.....whatever that is. Hasn't looked like his heart is in it for a while now. We should be concerned less with losing him, and more with finding the next Gunston-type forward. That seems to be the role we're wanting him to play but he's just not up to it and/or into it.
