I agree with your analysis of our defence but I think TMAC is prone to most of the problems you have listed, can fumble as bad as anyone and his turnovers are the worst type and leave the rest of the team with no hope of getting back in time. Similar to Frost, he can kill the teams momentum when down back.

I think the word you are looking for is 'if'. If Weideman makes it, it will be a huge bonus. This would be an interesting problem to have and with McDonald potentially testing out the FA market this year, Weideman would want to show some sings real quick.

Yet weren't willing to offer him half of what we did. He was a good component of their team, but wouldn't have been in there top 10 players. He is not a terrible player (even though he has played like one for us), but he definitely isn't worth what we gave up.
-
I don't think anyone is debating that. I have not seen one poster say that he be dropped. DeeSpencer is just making some extremely valid observations on what he has delivered so far and what appear to be some serious limitations that will stop him from being a good AFL player.
-
I'm a bit confused. You said the plus for us, so you want to get rid of him?
-
Disagree, it would be for more opportunity or a fresh start and aren't his parents still living in Melbourne?
-
I thought he was average at best. He started the game really well then faded out badly and was slow and poor with his disposal as he often is. If he doesn't show some drastic improvement this season, I would be more than happy to hear what other clubs would be willing to part with. It is quite damning that with Tyson and Viney out that he still couldn't find his way into our midfield rotation. If he is not an inside midfielder, what is he?

Jones did a good job, but Mitchell had 13 clearances, so I would prefer we don't tag at stoppages as it just left us essentially a man down.

Backline Setup and Structure
Watts the matter replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree with your post but I need to pull you up on this. You were very strong on Lever prior to the trade when many of the posters here said things along the lines of Lever is overrated and surrounded by very good players at Adelaide and is not a KPP. If we have to model our backline around a player who is an average kick and is slow, we are going to struggle. His inability to play as a key defender is already making us have to play Frost and leaving us a runner down from the back half. -
Shepherding the man on the mark
Watts the matter replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well since you are allowed within 5 meters of your opponent, if they are standing next to the man on the mark, another player should then creep 5 meters over the original mark. -
Well actually it does when we play a game without wings or play with a loose behind the ball and have our forward half completely clogged up while they run into open space in their half.

Admittedly, my stream was in and out for the second half. I 100% agree there were many worse. It was more of me disagreeing with Joeboys assessment than actually thinking Brayshaw was one of our worst. There was a lot of competition for that. I just wouldn't call that an 'impressive' performance from Brayshaw. He must have had 7 or 8 touches in the first 10 minutes, then faded out of the game. It was a hard day to find a winner for us and tbh I don't think I could sit through a replay of that junk.

Lever was side by side in the middle of the ground, then not even in the camera shot by the end. As bad as Hunt was, we need him back with this press.

Sounds exactly like my issue and response!

and get 2 first rounders back!! What a disaster.

It is what it is, but I had hoped for more class from a number 3 draft pick and still hope it will magically change every time he returns to the team.
-
I don't think bending over and picking up the ball or hitting a target with your foot has much to do with structure. The problem is he isn't even doing the basics to an acceptable level. It's a whole other debate about what he is already making us have to do structure wise. Losing a runner off half back so he can play third tall. He would want to learn to play key defender real soon or Casey will be his next destination.
-
Very generous. Started off well but again showed he is limited skill wise. Early in the game had an easy hit up for Hogan and bombed it to no one, just not a one touch player. Seemed to play a lot at half forward, his development is just going around in circles.
-
Same as the Sydney game last year.
-
Wiseblood, you are probably the most optimistic poster so that shows how big the problem is. Fairly sure it was you who said they weren't worried at half time? Smart teams are always going to expose us on the rebound. Our backline and structure is rubbish. Lever has made us worse.

Could barely watch the 2nd half as the international streaming service wouldn't work. Pathetic prior to that. Too many dumb footballers, grab the ball when they should tap it, tap it to the wrong side, and our backline will never be able to compete with a quick small forward (hint, hint, next week). Slow defenders: McDonald, Jetta, Wagner, Vince, Lever, Lewis. Forwards and midfield lack class and smarts. As always too many players jumping for marks, no one staying down. Bugg has to go, kills the momentum to often. Thought he was crap last week even when he kicked the goals, got away with multiple fumbles in that game. This week decided to add the handball to a player under more pressure. By the end of the game he was too scared to even kick for goal and hand balling to Harmes under more pressure on his wrong side. Lever, it continues. Look forward to hearing from his fanboys. Tough to find a player who won their position.
-
Disagree, he is only slightly off it. Astute football followers could see he was surrounded by class last year. He always had Laird and Smith running past for handballs so he wasn't exposed.
-
Does anyone else use this joke of a service? Has the 2nd half worked for anyone?
-
Saty make your mind up. In the JLT you used Goodwins generic quote to back your view that Brayshaw was in good form and deserving of a place in our round 1 team. You followed this up by using his wisdom teeth as a reason for his inability to get a place in the round 1 team. Can you now admit his form was poor in JLT 1 and not as good as expected?
-
Maybe Brayshaw, was tagging in the VFL on the weekend.
