  1. Because it directly appeals to a huge portion of the population. Women and girls get to see people just like them doing something that that may now aspire to do. They, in turn, buy jumpers, membership and merchandise; they attend matches and join local teams; they get more involved in the men’s game when winter comes along. The AFL isn’t doing this out of the goodness of their heart- they’re going to make a lot of money out of this brand of football. On top of that, this was a great match and we have a really good win! Get on board!
  2. Cracking game! Daisy is a star!
  3. I think that one is the best of a pretty average lot. I've always liked our MFC monogram and was annoyed when it was replaced on last seasons jumper. One of the issues with the white jumper is that the same design has never been consistently used, so supporters haven't had a chance to . build a bond with it. But we have had some great wins in white jumpers over the last few years!
  4. Like that time a player took a mark on him??? Yep, pretty damning stuff.
  5. I have such admiration for this player. To have come out of the last ten years at this club the player he is is an incredible feat. At the time of his delisting he could have been forgiven for running for the hills to get as far away from this shambolic club as possible. But he didn’t. He knuckled down and won the respect of his coaches, teammates, the opposition and now the whole footballing community. He’s a great role model for every player in the league.
  6. Very interesting... Not sure how many people would have Billy Stretch pencilled into their Round 1 22.
  7. Clarrie looks horrified!
  8. Article here detailing plans being pushed by MFC hierarchy to have a new facility built to accommodate the Football Department and club administration. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/melbourne-football-club-considering-new-training-facility-next-to-goschs-paddock/news-story/ef692ba70fd95c0c2334174f443f7284 It’s in keeping with Bartlett and co wanting to keep the club central, visible and associated with the city of Melbourne. (There might even be a merchandise store that isn’t terrifying to visit)
  9. I’m not sure Hawkins ever leaves the one zone though- he plants himself front and centre.
  10. It’s hard to know the whole picture of what went on when that decision for him to play was made. As good as modern medical testing is in professional sport, the medical and fitness team largely rely on the honesty of the player. Hopefully Viney was completely upfront with them and wasnt trying to be too ‘tough’. (Though that’s one of the things we all love about him.) Chris Judd spoke recently about how he misled medical staff about how he was feeling in order to get back into the team/training track sooner. Players can feel very guilty watching their team struggle without them.
  11. Had to google it, but well played!
  12. Frost probably gets first crack at Hawkind (and he have Tex a bath last year in Adelaide). I think the perception of Lever being only an intercept defender who doesn’t take the no 1 tall is a bit unfair. We need to remember how young he is. How many KPDs take the no 1 opposition tall in their first and second years???
  13. The OP doesn’t call for submissions- anyone posting their own ladder on the Fenceology thread would be deleted for not staying on topic. This thread is all about you!
  14. You can read all about it when I start my own thread!
  15. (Starts a thread with his name in the title to outline his own ladder prediction.)
  16. Down by 4 points and surging forward when Bartram 'passed' to the umpire. (Scully was absolutely incredible that night too)
  17. Any idea of the thread title or his username? Would love to dig it up and have a read...
  18. Great pics- thanks. The photos of Viney bounding along and leaping through the air will put a few people's minds at ease.
  19. Maybe going against the grain, but I did struggle to pick the jumpers on the other side of the ground prior to the 'clash jumpers'. If I had to do it in a split second, i'd be stuffed. I think our problem has been firstly we haven't had a clash strip that has been popular amongst the fans, and secondly, we've never kept one long enough for anyone to feel any connection to.
  20. Many thanks for the great report! I wouldn't worry too much about the bolded - a fit and hungry Gawn can monster most rucks in the league. It also wasn't that long ago that Jamar and Spencer were routinely humiliating Gawn in ruck drills. Really hope Maxy's priming for a huge year!
  21. If they play in a grand final, they can wear a hessian sack for all I care!
  22. Is that for real?? That's genuinely terrible.
  23. I think we can all stop prefixing our comments about Sylvia with "He's a great bloke, but..."
