  1. Number one biggest issue for me is this actually stops teams from possibly making the 8 with a great run in the last 6 games! round 17 2016 - 3 teams on 7 wins us, the pies and Tiges. the team with the worst % goes into the bottom 6 and the other 2 into the middle 6. fair? [censored] no! if a team wins 6 straight they are on 13 wins and play finals, if they win 5/6 that have a chance of making finals. 22 games is already a short season but cutting it down to 17 games means if you have a bad run or form early or key injuries you have less chance to make a comeback and suddenly you are playing for draft picks in July. another exmaple - round 17 2016 Geelong are 7th. win last 6 and finish second. not to mention teams from the middle 6 potentially having more wins that the tp 6 and missing finals. this idea solves some problems but IMO creates many more - so in summary a classic AFL idea that will be implemented and then later removed!! ALSO - this will increase the have and have nots vibe. the top 6 will get all the TV rating and the bottom wont get shown, more people will not go to game if the bottom 6 play each other! it will be less
  2. you rate their midfield an 8? Agree on Steven but no other A graders in my opinion and a lot of them are inside mids or runners without much skill x factor. id rate it a 6 at best I think their midfield will hold them back, unless guys like Billings move in there and develop
  3. Love Daisy, cant wait to see her in action next Saturday in response to the OP, I prefer having seperate forums for the mens and womans teams. if i want to read about the mens team I dont want to have to scroll through through the AFLW threads
  4. He didn't give a rats clacker
  5. I reckon this year could be JKH's last chance. 4 years is a fair go even considering injuries. spots in our squad are now hot property. if he doesnt break into the seniors this year it would be unlikely he'll get a new contract dont want to hang on to players too long if they are not upto it talent wise or their body can't stay together - eg, Strauss, blease that being said I hope he has a crack this year and does well
  6. We might want to wait until the league actually begins. Its hard to be excited by something that hasn't even started. I am keen to see Daisy strut her stuff, she very highly rated by her peers
  7. As the great mark neeld once said - I don't why we aren't playing well, the boys have been training very well!
  8. I prefer the Pepsi demons. Go Pepsi! Viney can change his name to Pepsi Max?? I would certainly not consider changing our name for money especially as having truck loads of money isn't that great an advantage in footy. Case in point the bulldogs
  9. talking leadership not general player quality.... surely your not suggesting Green is captain material?
  10. remember when we were so desperate for leadership the caption had to be out of Davey, Green or Moloney? fook me. No offence to those 3, solid players but not natural leaders by any stretch things have finally turned around!!!
  11. Captain Jones VC Viney LG: T Mac, Gawn, Lewis 5 will do it IMO
  12. no disrespect felt. was just mentioning the possibility of the back being hammy related as can be the case and esp as Kent did a bad hammy a while ago. must be in my Melbourne supporting DNA to think worst case scenario
  13. thanks for the info its a real pity to lose Kent but better it happens now than in March. Kent will join Tyson in being a potential non-starter for round one but at least he's had a good block of pre-season done Back injuries suck, esp as they can be linked to hammies so if hes back in 6 weeks id be delighted
  14. Games - 223 Brownlow votes - 67 should easily make it to 300 games (and 10+ finals appearances) in his career. no-one deserves it more no idea how he drove himself to improve during the dark years 2008-2014
  15. are you being serious? who in their midfield will make them the next powerhouse? They had a dream draw and almost no injuries for most of the year last year. And Nick surely can't play another outstanding season at 34. I expect them to miss out of finals and take a step backwards (but still probably beat us)
  16. Hawks and north to fall and both to miss the 8 Dees to rise and finish top 6 not sure on the other team to rise to make the 8, pies, saints or the smokey the Suns dont think there will be as much movement over the ladder as last year
  17. Couldn't see Oliver mentioned already not a bad wrap for the kid! Clayton’s a high talent and as the summer’s unfolded, you notice him more and more in drills at training. His ground play and ability to extract the ball are quite extraordinary for a young player. At the moment, we’re just adding different levels of fitness to him and some education around what to do when he’s not near the ball. By gee, when he’s near the ball – look out! He wins it more often than not. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-01-15/list-update-anb-oliver-and-pedersen
  18. Thanks Wussell, you have made my monday bearable far out I cant wait to see Petracca, Salem, Gus and Oliver strut their stuff this year!
  19. Zero. a few will be traded out by the club though. Everyone wants to be aboard the Dee Train
  20. as far as scope for improvement goes - I think Frost will become a very important backman and rebounder at pace my other tip to step up is Wagner,
  21. Jonesy was reportedly happy to have "such a nice 2 hour sleep" on the camp as he's been getting bugger all with two kids under 2
  22. thanks WW didn't know Tyson hurt his knee. from what you discussed, worst case might be a month off full training for a scope?
