I went to aDelaide for the first time last year and went to the Port game.Stayed In Glenelg and caught the tram/ train to the city - 1/2 hr..Then short walk to ground.Easy.

This is not about Ron per se,but another aspect of his fame. l was a student at Monash University in the early 1970s and the head of the History Department, Professor Ian Turner, used to give an annual lecture named the Ron Barassi Memorial Lecture. He would talk about various aspects of the game in a humorous manner. The thing is he was a Richmond supporter and always wore a Tigers beanie! So even Turner recognised the stature of Ron in the world of footy.

About 3 weeks ago at Gosches l was talking to another supporter- who l had never met before.He claimed to know James’s family.And that he was going to the Bombers next year.So we will see.

We won most of our games by small margins this year .So we know how to win the close ones regularly. And yes l know,we lost the last 2 games- by small margins.We didn’t get blown away.
