Absolutely...I wonder how well Buddy, roughed, rioli would have developed @ the dees.. Early picks are only 1 part of it...Difference between the two clubs is so far apart....at least during the years prior to PJ & Roos...

I think more than just that... Combination of good drafting & development... Inc strong culture, a united club which has built a premiership club not just a team... They have set strong foundations since the failed merger... We have gone around in circles & took a ban aid approach...What occurred prior to PJ & Rooss was diabolical & not a great environment for young players to thrive in...

Unfortunately the afl have created this situation .....Clubs @ the bottom will get raided of any good talent when they become free agents.. Clubs need to take responsibility of ensuring their environments are professional & conducive for players to want to stay... As we know the MFC have done a very poor job from 08-2013.... We also need to understand the lack of success will play in the decision making to Frawley & others seeking playing finals. What the system was set up for to equalise talent thru the draft will also be compromised when clubs who have just won a flag are able to strengthen their list with free agency eg Frawley to Hawks & Swans with Tippett & Buddy... When it was designed to push out talent due to increase pressure on salary cap demands... I might be wrong but this may create power teams who may continue to dominate????

They are a premiership club! Clubs win flags not just teams! Lets hope PJ & co are on the same pathway!

Can't change the past but what occurred in our four club from 08-13 was diabolical & set us back 10yrs!

Makes you feel frustrated... Since the fail merger... Hawks 3 flags , 4 gf....vs mfc 1 gf in2000 As a club we went around in circles & butchered our early draft picks & created crap culture!

Doesn't seem right... My guess is there are more underlying issues... Maybe Roos has told him best if he leaves the club.... Let's face it long term if the club can secure another player eg Harry O or a draft pick rather than risking MC bombing out in 6mths & getting nothing....Roos & Co are wanting to set a new culture don't need any passengers... No disrespect to MC illness...

Exactly.... Afl created a situation that the top clubs will continue to raid the bottom clubs...... Which questions the whole evenness of the competition which the draft was originally designed for??? Responsibility has to fall on the MFC on the train wreck environment since 08... Poor drafting...poor development.....poor coaches ... Players do want to chase success... If we landed a Dangerfield would we be bagging the afl????

The unevenness in this afl comp is so glaring from the fixture to the stadium deals, teams who play on prime TV etc.... Understand that the support we got from the Afl to restructure the club was needed & PJ & co have done a great job & it's a far different club But.......Maybe as a footy club we need to stop relying on handouts... Early picks... As proven last night with a rookie pick 30 who was overlooked in 3 drafts that if a club culture & development is right players will excel & win a brownlow! Let's find the right players with the right character,attitude & get the best coaches to develop top players... bomber Thompson said it was great to see his team win those flags as all the players developed together.....

Will want 1.5mill a year after tonight!

Goes to show if your development & culture is right ..... Overlooked by 4 national drafts... Pick 31 rookie in 06 draft! Our previous recruiters/ development coaches should never work again in an afl club... All those early picks.....

We got plenty of picks for our failures since 07 & yet thru picking the wrong kids & crappy culture/development see us rebuilding again!

A tale of 2 teams since the failed merger.... Hawks 4 grand finals & maybe a 3rd flag vs Dees 1 GF in 2000.... I'm sick to death going to my mates House who is a Hawks fan for GF BBQ that's 4 times since 08!

Culture begins from the top...From president to CEO & throughout the whole club... They all need to be on the same page! This I dare say is occurring with PJ & Roos & the appointment of a Goodwin will see the right culture & same message continue after Roos....

Spot on... Though players like him represent the bad state of drafting/developing which occurred in the past hence our present state.... A bit harsh on Toumpas only in his second year & injured this year... Give the kid a break....

This whole episode stinks.... basically a player commits to a club to a lucrative contract.....gets sick & forced to retire & our club negotiates a payout in the interest of the players health after only playing 15 games, then 6 mths later decides he wants to come back & play again but not for the MFC.... Excuse me but WTF has MFC done wrong & its appears we are getting shafted!

Yeah Rivers now Frawley left the club because of the great culture & fantastic environment ....honestly our club was deplorable & don't blame them for leaving....

I want to look fwd & confident of Roos & co will create a new breed & culture... But FFS when I read comments like this....I don't know which club you have followed since 08.... But an absolute train wreck was occurring under the snake oil salesman Schwab & Connolly who destroyed the culture & almost our club! Ask McLean why he left? Ask why the most of the players wanted out before Pj rescued our club & brought some sanity back! Ask Scully what happened on the China trip! Ask what would make Dunns mother ring up a radio station & dump on the club after the 148 loss to essendon... Ask what caused the 186 ...Yeah I'm sure the $$$ influenced his decision but I can assure the environment was deplorable...

Club was to blame for Scully....Our culture pre Pj & Roos was diabolical ... Don't blame him....

Just another disastrous event in our history of poor drafting...... We can only hope that our current coaches & new culture will get players like Toumpas to become great players ..... Whilst it's unfair to compare Wines it's frustrating as when we took Morton over Dangerfield ... One wonders even if they were picked would they have developed under the previous regime??? One thing to get early picks but if your culture & development are crap.......How would these same players have gone in a top club??

To think we now have to give up the farm to get him.... When we could have had him for nothing. & we pick Morton! I know hindsight is great but we have had too many failures @ early picks!
