Just get their second rounder, trade it for Lamumba and be done with it. Sick of even thinking about this massive [censored]. The faster he [censored] off the better.
-
Dead set [censored]. Bet if the shoe was on the other foot and Brisbane were losing an AA key defender entering their prime, he'd be stomping his feet having a whinge about Brisbane needing a first round pick. I do think we'll get pick 3 and I'm confident the AFL have promised it to us behind closed doors, but I also get the distinct feeling there will be faux outrage from other clubs once it happens, and the AFL will end up canceling compo picks as a result. I can already hear the chorus of whine from other clubs.
-
Patrick not coming out and flat out denying this is also suspect. Every party has put it back on Patty and he's yet to say a word. Methinks everyone's just waiting for the compo now so this can go ahead.
-
My reading of the situation is there's only two reasons we'd come out saying we'll give up 2 and 3 for Danger. Either: a. we've got him, and now Adelaide are playing out their end of the script and pouring the blame and pressure on Danger, despite being perfectly happy to take picks 2 and 3 over FA compo or b. we're making as public a statement as we can make in trade week to entice any other clubs desperate for top picks to come to us. We're prepared to give up these picks, so what can you offer us?

Has been a done deal for a while as far as I know. Someone said even Tyson told a few people at the B&F he'd all but signed on the dotted line. -

Bring on the senior players, thanks. Ones who know what it takes to win games. We get more players like that and suddenly those 6 or 7 games we led yet threw away become wins. -
Dangerfield would have to be worth at least 5000-6000 pre-season memberships alone.
-
I think it might be better left unsaid.
-
Pretty sure PJ's taken our offer off the table, just in case. Hell, he'd take 4 zeros off the contract if it meant securing pick 3.
-
Agreed. He also kept asking idiotic questions about the grand final to Roos and Bomber when clearly the more interesting conversation involved Bomber's future and Roos' trade intentions. All we got was a rushed question about Danger that was deflected in typical Roos fashion. Compare that to his answer when asked about R'OK, where he outright said it was probably a year too late.
-
Gerard & Robbo's opinions on the trade period: Waite: Going to North. Liam Jones: Going to Carlton. Ryder: Going to Port. Beams: Offering pick 4 or nothing, Brisbane won't budge, Collingwood being ridiculous. Frawley: Collingwood (???? according to Gerard) Frawley: Robbo says Hawthorn. Clark: Geelong. Dangerfield: Staying in Adelaide "simple as that" says Robbo. McKenna done within 48 hours. Mark Thompson, "think he'll be at Essendon" says Robbo, Gerard says "might want to re-think that". Robbo: "If the AFL went to Mark Thompson with $1.7 million and said, Mark, we need you to coach this team... he would do it." Done deal I reckon.
-
Gerard: Will you trade picks 2 and 3 for Dangerfield? Roos: (wry smile, took a moment to get his composure, didn't seem to be anticipating such a direct question). "First and foremost, he's a terrific player who is contracted for next year." Speculation started with Roo saying he was tradeable. "We haven't spoken to him." "If Frawley goes, we... everyone expects us to get pick 3". "We'll talk to Patty.. if he says he wants to leave Adelaide we'll look into it." Mentioned Robbo asked him about it before the show. Either way, all deflection. Saying they haven't talked is, for my money, another complete lie. There's a script all involved parties are following here. AFC, MFC, Roos, Patty, his manager.
-
On a side note: Bomber "definitely not" approached by another club. Staying at Essendon is "ummm... an option."
-
Roos was "startled" by the result Saturday. "Stunned". Said Sydney just didn't respond to the pressure. Key to Hawthorn's success is their impeccable ball movement. Hawks slow the ball down by keeping possession, allowing them to breathe, forcing Sydney to work harder for no result and exhaust themselves. Have to tread very fine line between spraying players and being comforting, because it can damage relationships permanently. Believes Clarkson is the best coach in the game. "You have to remember where they were, what they were like when he got there. They were a really poor team, building team, young team." On improving: Have to "start at the start", only way to get to their level is being as hard as the Hawks. The one constant in grand final teams, they're hard, tough, they tackle. Thank god this guy coaches us, he understands each team's strategies flawlessly.

Agreed, which is why Buckley's kind of an idiot. Roos went to great lengths over the last few months to talk up Clark and Frawley. I'm sure behind closed doors he holds very different opinions, but publicly you need to talk up the currency of your players. Works to your advantage in any trades. -
It's all a dance. There's clearly much, much more going on than has been revealed. What I will say... Paul Roos does not come out and say he wants Dangerfield if he knows the answer is no. That is an absolute fact. He would not embarass himself with such a display. Conversely, if Danger has told them he is undecided, what on earth does the club gain by stating this publicly and putting him under pressure? It could destroy months of work by showing your hand to the media, it's a complete antithesis to the way Roos normally operates. So why are we making this potential trade public already? The AFL saying they will announce compensation immediately after free agents leave also implies a lot of backroom action from the likes of PJ informing the AFL of our intentions and that delaying announcement of our compensation could destroy a landmark trade in the making. The AFC coming out last week saying Danger could be traded, but today saying he isn't on the table unless he asks? They're firming their position as a club to make sure they don't repeat the Vince situation where fans were displeased that a club favourite was pushed out the door. Adelaide would be over the moon if they got 2 & 3 in exchange for Danger. Not only does it free up the money to secure Sloane and Tex this off season, it gives them two potential guns in this draft to make amends for their years of draft sanctions. Quietly confident.
-
Hawkins thanks. Like for like.
-
He'll be on the table the moment he asks to be. They won't risk only getting one compensation pick next year (if that) when they can get picks 2 and 3 this year instead. All they need is a whiff he's going and they'll agree. It all comes down to what Patrick wants.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA
SaberFang replied to Moonshadow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Terrible post. Here we are, a club on our knees, and we have an All Australian, premiership player nominate us over a preliminary finalist as his destination of choice. Meanwhile, players of incredibly low character like Clark are manipulating the system to leave us in the pile of [censored] we're in.Welcome Heretier. He's prepared to play for our colors and I'll back him every step of the way. Not to mention what an actual coach like Roos will be able to transform him into. -
We definitely need to sort out both our C grade midfield and now D grade forward line. Dawes needs an injury free preseason and HHogan needs games into him. It's a bit of a chicken/egg situation, but I wouldn't waste a million investing in Cameron just yet until we have quality delivery coming through our mids. They're the engine of the team and they're still miles off it. We desperately need more elite players running through the middle and providing options. Shiel and Danger would be almost all it takes, but that's looking like fantasy mode now.

His manager just said he would be a great fit with a coach like Roos due to his personable coaching, but that there are "lots of clubs interested that are further up the ladder." What a wonderful world the AFL has become. Anyone who denies this is already a two tiered system is kidding themselves. The same 6 of 8 clubs will make up the finals every single year from here on. There will be maybe one or two Port Adelaide success stories every few years if sheer luck is on their side. -
Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
SaberFang replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
The latter. A lot easier to say we can't satisfy any trade with our currency than say his client doesn't want to come to us. -
Wonder what happened to those whispers about Roos and Sam Reid.
-
Whately said it's practically guaranteed Saints will give him up pick 1 to GWS so they can get Petracca.
-
Pointless having an all star forward line if the midfield is woeful and turning it over. I expect Roos will be focused purely on improving our midfield, long before he worries about key forwards. Hogan's practically a brand new player in 2015 anyway.
