WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
It isn't just this forum. I just skimmed over 300 comments from 18 clubs worth of supporters... there was not one comment from someone calling this a remotely fair trade. I know it's only Facebook, but even most people can see that the Dangerfield trade was relatively win/win for those clubs in the long run. " Massive overs, the guy is a fringe player and a 3rd round selection at best" "you must think it's Christmas. Melbourne don't ever deserve to make finals." "I reckon bombers would of accepted pick 80 for him" "This is why Melbourne are the biggest joke of a football club the pay way overs on average players, first round pick for Dawes few years back and now an early second round pick for melksham , get ready for another season of mediocrity" " I would of been happy for him to be delisted but I'll take pick 25. " " If Melbourne ever had the plot, they have surely now lost it.." "waste pick 25 for a vfl player lol" "Bombers #winning melksham anything over $300k a year is abhorrent behaviour from Melbourne" "Best news ever. We even got a decent pick for the list clogger" I had to stop, it was seriously just pages of abuse. https://www.facebook.com/AFLTRDON?fref=nf

A former pick 4 who hasn't lived up to his potential after 3 years is quite different to a former pick 10 who hasn't lived up to their potential after 6 years. In no universe are they like-for-like on the trade table except in Dodoro's eyes (and that's exactly the reason you know they aren't like-for-like).

Delistings/trades at end of the season
To be honest, if no clubs are interested in trading their first or second rounders for Watts, wouldn't we just wait until he's a FA next year and run away with the compensation pick (likely band 2 or 3; between pick 19 and pick 30)? He's shown glimpses this year that the penny's finally dropped; let's see what might happen after McCartney gets a full pre-season with him.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
There isn't a living football supporter that would take VDB over Wines, although they possess many similar attributes. Nonetheless, it's a good reality check that there are seriously good players out there; we just need to get better at finding and identifying them. Unfortunately, the success of VDB sent 17 other clubs into a frenzy, pushing them out into the minor leagues trying to replicate our success. Taylor would be doing VERY well to replicate a recruitment of equal success in this draft.

Geez the benefit of hindsight. Who the hell would we have taken with pick 4 if given the choice now? Wines. Macrae or Stringer? Fairly sure if Roos was around a year earlier then Wines would've been the exact archetype of midfielder he loves.
