Pay out Evans and pick him up, or take him as a rookie. Both are better options than spending another year with a VFL player that isn't getting another contract.

Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
SaberFang replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unlikely, Balme said last night that we agreed to terms with Geelong last week, so it's essentially always been Clark for their second rounder. The only change that happened when it went to a 3 way trade was Geelong offering Colonwood Varcoe instead of a second rounder. If they coughed up their third rounder as well and we got the Frost trade across the line today I'd be ecstatic. -
Terlich was re-signed for 2 years (sigh) a few months back, so he ain't going anywhere. It would probably be McKenzie, although Roos seems to rate him as an effective tagger. Too bad his disposal is shithouse.

Beams, Lamumba, Maxwell, McCaffer all out next year, and Swan on his last legs. Should be an interesting year for the Pies. -

They've been saying that for like 3 days. Collingwood would just LOVE doing this. Involving 5 other clubs in one trade and being the ones responsible for getting it through or not. MFC and Geelong both wanted to do our own part of the deal separately to avoid this mess, and Colonwood specifically told us not to. Egotistical maniacs. -
Agreed. If Roos told him point blank he won't play an AFL match again, he'd probably just take the money and bugger off.

Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
SaberFang replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sigh... Clark 2.0? I'd like to say Trenners wouldn't do to the club what Clark did, were he also offered a rookie spot and a small contract to continue playing with us beyond 2015. -

Logical reasoning, I like it. I had a dream last night we'd traded pick 2 to Brisbane who desperately needed a key forward now they've gone from a C grade to an A grade midfield in one trade period. The reason no trades had happened thus far was they didn't want Collingwood to demand picks 2 and 5 for Beams, so they waited until that deal was done until pushing through the trade with us. In exchange they gave us Aish, who we then offered to Adelaide with pick 12 for Dangerfield. Clearly when you dream about trade scenarios, it's a sure sign you need book an appointment with your shrink. -

It's nearly lunchtime and we haven't even gotten the freakin Lamumba deal done. -
There would be delistees from other clubs I'd rather take a punt on (Roos is excellent at extracting talent that lesser coaches can't) than keeping blokes like Evans who clearly aren't up to the challenge. If they're destined to be delisted in 2015 anyway, we should be targetting blokes like Robinson and Burbury who show the kind of hardness Roos loves. Someone in another thread said that two contracted players were told they might not be on the list next year. Would have to be Evans and McKenzie? I reckon even Patrenko would be an upgrade on them.

Surely 2 seconds would be more than enough.

Unfortunately I think it's far too late to trade players now. Those are the kinds of deals you have to establish in week one so both teams, the player, the player's family, the player's manager, etc. can all mull over their options and agree or disagree to the proposed trade. In our case, we even got PR involved to get fans used to the idea of losing a club favourite with a media release on Friday night. We'd likely do the same if it were Watts or Howe, two fan favourites, next in line for trades. The only player with currency we were seemingly planning to trade was Trenners, and... well, what more needs to be said about that?

Would be fair to say we've left ourselves very little (if any) room to bring in DFA's this year, aka Daniel Cross last year. It'll likely be whatever these final 3 picks bring in, unless there's a 3+23 package deal in the works and Roos intends to bring in a Clint Jones type DFA. Something that has me stumped is what we were planning if Trenners + 23 had worked out for pick 12. If it went ahead, we would've had 4 vacant senior list spots but only picks 2, 3 and 12 to fill them. It almost definitely wasn't 3+12 for [insert dream scenario here], because that would've left us with 2 vacant spots and no picks remaining to fill them. So that's got me stumped. Is it Thursday yet?

I've tried to decipher how many moves we have left in this trade period (I've never felt so exhausted after only one trade), and here's where Roosy's entire "list overhaul" sits currently: In: Jeff Garlett (Carlton) Billy Stretch (father-son), Neville Jetta (rookie upgrade) Out: Shannon Byrnes (retired) Mitch Clark (Geelong) Mitch Clisby (delisted) James Frawley (Hawthorn) Dan Nicholson (delisted) So at this exact moment, that leaves us only two vacant senior list spots, for Lamumba and Frost. That leaves us with picks 2, 3 & 23 in the draft, and Blease, Strauss & Tappy all likely to be delisted. I don't believe we have any other players we can delist (anyone want to clarify?) What this signals for me is we won't be looking at any pick downgrades like the Tyson deal last year. We might be aiming for something simpler like straight swaps of players for high draft picks. Under AFL rules we only need to use one of these remaining picks in the draft. What I think most of us would like to see happen is one kept (2 for Brayshaw) and 3 and 23 traded for older players in our "missing generation" years. To me this simplifies what I hope our focus is in the final few days of the trade period. Spend all tomorrow shopping picks 3 and 23 for the best two established players available.

I think Bulldogs will end up with pick 4 for Griffen and simply won't budge on that. GWS will run out of time to offer them players and a lower pick if they're also trying to package up a deal to get pick 1 off the Saints. Frankly if you were getting Griffen why would you bother going after Petracca anyway, unless you were losing a Shiel/Treloar type, and that doesn't appear to be happening. Saints would accept picks 4 and 7 for pick 1 in a heartbeat, but GWS can't offer that anymore. Boyd staying put was actually good for us, because otherwise GWS would've ended up capable of packaging those picks to get Petracca off the Saints, because the shoe would've been on the other foot for the Bulldogs, coughing up picks to GWS rather than the other way around). It also means they're highly likely to get either Wright or McCartin, so they've no need to deal with us anymore.

Yeah not too sure why we aren't doing anything with 23?? Easy currency for a good midfielder around Vince's age. Surely Roos has someone in mind?
-
Why would we give pick 38 to Collingwood for Lamumba? Wouldn't we have just got pick 32 off Geelong for Clark then given that to Collingwood already? Then use pick 38 on Frost?
-
I've never felt more ill throughout a trade period before. Literally about as good a package of picks as one could ever ask for came our way, and we're either giving it all up for one player, or taking a bunch of 18 year olds. Perplexing stuff given the way Roos was discussing the list for the last 3 months.

Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
SaberFang replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not to be a smartass but that sounds like the medical team severely underestimated the stage he was at in recovery for this to have happened. Amazing how Daniel Cross can break his leg and return to the game within the one season, and now Trenners will be out for likely two whole seasons, if not the rest of his career. -
Why would everything be conveniently revealed at a certain time of day anyway? Why would we co-ordinate the submission of the deal just to be "revealed" at a certain time. Roos isn't even in the country so it's not for a press conference they have planned or anything.

Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
SaberFang replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
Think it's safe to say we won't be dealing with Colonwood next year unless we absolutely have to. We probably wouldn't have this year if Lamumba's manager didn't ask to meet with us. -
2, 3 and 23 would have to be two players. A Kennedy + Mitchell type. Roos was very clear last year that we needed to use our picks carefully, and that pick 2 was more valuable to us if it brought in two quality players rather than one. Seems unusual to throw out that idea one year later by using three picks on one player, after a four win season. I'd be ecstatic if we got Kennedy but remain hopeful it's part of a bigger plan and not as black & white as all 3 picks for Kennedy and nothing else.

If pick 12 is so important to our trade strategy, shop Watts, Howe and Toumpas. Surely you'd get some interested parties for the latter two. Collingwood were keen on Watts too, if you believe the rumour mill.

Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
SaberFang replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could be a lie but Balme just said on SEN that the terms between Geelong and us were actually agreed last week. Not surprisingly the reason the whole deal is being held up is because Colonwood can't get their [censored] together.
