If Rioli chose to contest the mark, he would have had his arms in a position where he could have taken a chest mark. He chose to turn sideways, which could be construed as bracing himself against contact or deliberate head high contact to Rowell with a hip and shoulder. If you watch Dr. Laura's injury report video on the club website, she brackets Petty and Hibberd as rehabbing, whilst saying the Rivers will have a test. I'd rule out Hibberd based on that. No mention of Lever, which I'm unsure is a good or bad thing.

We're fortunate that Ben King isn't playing for GC. No reason for Tmac to play down back. Assuming Lever, Hibberd and Rivers are unavailable, the matchups could be as follows: Casboult - Tomlinson Lukosius - Smith Chol - May Rankine - Hunt Wouldn't be surprised if Dunstan comes in for Salem and Harmes spends some time down back.

That's my take, although it was his 3rd game. He worked hard but didn't show enough to say that he belongs at AFL level. May get some more games as a sub, but can't see who he replaces in the starting 22. He's put himself ahead of Chandler in the pecking order.

I would be shocked if that happened. Goody never considered playing Tmac down back when Tomlinson got injured. If our backs are under the pump it will be due to our mids getting beaten. But some supporters will put the blame on the usual scapegoats in Hunt and Smith.

Just saw an Instagram post from the club taking at training today. They showed a couple of players taking set shots for goal, and Harmes was one of them. Only forwards were in the vicinity waiting their turn.

Dogs aren't exactly flush for key forwards. May takes Naughton, Smith takes Schache and Lever takes Hannan. Martin isn't a factor up forward, so if English plays deep, Max will push back. Tomlinson is only 8 months from his ACL. This will be a white hot game. I can understand why he hasn't been selected.

Whilst we're on Jack, he was the guest on the recent Gus and Gawny podcast. He revealed that he approached Goody and Richo before the GF, and asked if it was okay to line up a Dogs player at the opening bounce, and accept whatever suspension. Goody and Richo said no. He still cleaned up Macrae, and didn't cop a suspension.

Now that was a brilliant doco despite it's brevity. That gave you the sort of insights that was missing from the Fox doco.

Aside from Jack Viney having a crack at his teammates when he was 18, there was nothing really ground breaking in the doco. It wasn't enjoyable reliving our tragic history post 1964. I think Garry Lyon used a bit of poetic license when describing Jimmy Stynes running through the mark in the 1987 prelim. Dipper was the Hawthorn player who was unmanned in the forward pocket. I was behind the goals and screaming for someone to pick up Dipper, when Jimmy ran to man him up. And the siren hadn't gone at that stage, as Garry described. The players who all missed gettable shots at goal, which would have sealed the game, were more at fault than Jimmy. Yeats, Jackson, Eishold and Campbell were the real culprits. I would have loved to have seen a doco that just related to our entire 2021 season, with behind the scenes footage that included Darren Burgess' training methods. As a sports lover, I find the ESPN 30 for 30 docos fantastic. Unless you are a Dees supporter, this was a pretty average doco to be honest.

Sorry, I meant "thread" not "post". I actually agree with SWYL. There is a post referring to Neeld's next step being Centrelink. I find this in poor taste regardless of what you think of his coaching ability. Our problems started before Neeld arrived, and didn't end till Goody started. I'm not interested in revisiting anything that happened in between.

Spot on. And I also find it disappointing that people are still sticking the knives into Neeld. Sure, he wasn't a good coach, and was duly sacked, but the club was embroiled in a 6 month "tanking investigation/witch hunt" during his tenure. Wouldn't have been easy for a first time coach. I won't be watching.

All this based on a preseason game. How on earth could we afford to pay out Melksham under the salary cap? We shopped him around, no takers, so he remains. How many times have you seen Laurie play? He's a 2nd year player who got injured in a Covid affected season. How anyone can make an assessment of him is beyond me. You clearly have your biases against certain players, and nit pick whenever they don't have a good game.

In essence, our offer isn't that much different from Freo's. Freo - $7m over 6 years + $200k x 1 year equates to $1.03m per year over 7 years = $7.2m Dees - $4.1m over 5 years. If his salary in years 6 and 7 increases to $1.3m = $6.7m But my question is, how do we fit an extra $500k into this years cap? Or will it be extrapolated over years 2-5.

The term "depth" is often overstated, but with our current list, we have legitimate depth in the backline. Tomlinson, Hunt and J. Smith have proven themselves at AFL level. To keep our current back 7 structure in place, I'd assume that Turner and Baker will play significant minutes. Looking forward to seeing how they go.

If Brayshaw leaves, his motivation will be money, not winning a Brownlow. In 2019, he played 22 games as an inside mid and got 0 Brownlow votes. In fact, aside from 2018 when he got 21 votes, he has polled a total of 1 vote. So let's stop this nonsense of Gus leaving to seek individual glory at another club.

So after 45 years of yelling out "Just kick it", the team has finally taken heed. But I agree with you. In times gone past it was considered taboo to kick it long to a contest. The gurus would tell us that you had to keep possession at all costs. Thankfully that seems to be a thing of the past.
