  1. From what I've seen of Wines this year (have him in my Fantasy Team), we won't need to tag him. Port's most dangerous mid at the moment is Rozee.
  2. Jeez we had a lot of talent in 1975, and yet we finished 3rd last. Four members of our Team of the Century (Hardeman, Flower, Alves and Wells), in addition to Big Carl, Garry Baker, Ross Brewer and Ray Biffin. Unfortunately we didn't have any prolific goalkickers at that time, so I'd imagine that Ross Brewer was our best forward, along with a young Steven Smith. Also noticed Marty Lyons name appearing. It's a shame we didn't get his son Jarryd.
  3. From what I've seen of Tomlinson at Casey, he's lost his mobility. He can run in a straight line, but has the turning circle of the Queen Mary. At Casey, I'd imagine that he's been told to play the Steven May role, and organise the defence. But from I've noticed, he gets caught out of position too often. I wasn't surprised when Turner was given the nod ahead of him. With Turner and Joel Smith as depth, I'd say that we'd put him on the trade market, and hopefully another club remembers his good form prior to his ACL.
  4. The days of Pagan's Paddock are over. I can't name any decent key forward who solely relies on space to lead. That's not how the game is played. Regardless of that, I don't think that Weid reads the game well enough. His poor positioning is one of the reason why he's a poor contested mark. I think the match committee would be more forgiving of Weid if he stood under the ball in contested marking situations, like BBB and T Mac. I can't see any other club pursuing him.
  5. You're dismissing Laurie as an AFL standard player without seeing him play at that level, and pigeon holing him as a wet weather specialist. Anyone who doubts Laurie's ability to cover the ground or fitness levels should re-watch the last quarter of Casey v Geelong. He goes from disposing of the ball to the next contest in a blink of an eye. And his clean hands in wet conditions, and overall disposal is sublime. We're coming to the pointy end of the season with a top 4 position at stake. We've tried Weid and M Brown in the T Mac role with no success. We've changed the structure, and played an extra small in Bedford, with limited success. We need a change of personnel in our forward half, and IMO Laurie and JVR have to play this week.
  6. The idea of playing Petty at CHF is exciting, but based on what we've seen of Tommo at VFL and AFL level this year, he's not the player to fill Petty's spot. Barring another horrific run with injuries to our key backs, we shouldn't be seeing Tomlinson in the AFL again this year.
  7. How can you say that a player who has yet to debut is less impactful? And how do you assess Laurie's fitness levels? Spargo averages 72% game time this year compared to Kossies 80%. Only once has Spargo played over 80% game this year. Unless Laurie is given a chance, all your statements are pure guesswork or opinions. And we know how often your opinions have been wrong.
  8. Per disposal? That's a horrible matrix to judge a player. It benefits low possession players. We need some other avenues to goal. Bedford is the 1st out for JVR because we need to revert to our preferred structure. Spargo out for Laurie because Laurie seems to have potential as a mid/forward crumber, and should be rewarded.
  9. Agree with most of what you've said except that BBB had to play, or we may have been out of the game by half time without him. He's clearly been better in the 1st half, and tires in the 2nd. You can put that down to T Mac's absence, and Jackson being largely ineffective as a forward all year. BBB has to bear all the opposition attention. @demoncat You're right. I totally disagree that Weid has the size and strength to attract the second defender. That's his biggest weakness aside from marking. I think JVR at this point is a better footballer than Weid, and if selected, he won't have to do much to prove it. The final goal that JVR kicked for Casey sums up what I've being seeing all year. In a contested marking situation, JVR is sitting perfectly in line with the flight of the ball. Look where Weid comes from, and he almost spoilt JVR.
  10. Please stop this Andrew Brayshaw to Melbourne nonsense. Gus said months ago that Andy is happy in WA. His twin brother and oldest brother are there. Plus Freo are in their premiership window now, and Andy B is a big factor. They're not trading him for Jackson.
  11. We would be bringing him in due to the shortcomings of our forward line structure. We have an additional small there because neither Weid or M Brown could fill T Mac's role. If we go back to our most successful structure, then JVR is our only option. And I don't see him being under any additional pressure to perform. Nowhere have I seen or heard JVR as being the messiah. As for his weight, of course he'll get stronger with time, but doesn't stop him from making an impact now. He played senior WAFL games last year.
  12. The EBA argument is nonsense given the number of players who have re-signed. And of course all will be revealed eventually.
  13. When does Weid ever use his frame? The difference between Weid and JVR is that Weid like a to fly for marks, generally from behind. JVR reads the flight better and stands under the ball. JVR is more like T Mac. If our coaches are worried about JVR's lack of size, why the hell have they got him playing 2nd ruck at Casey in the past 2 weeks, competing against guys over 200cm? JVR will take the 3rd best defender, after BBB and Fritsch. He's ready now.
  14. JVR for Bedford, as he's the closest player we have to play the T Mac role. Dunstan for Oliver. Laurie for Spargo. Hunt for Bowey. Chandler unlucky.
  15. You include JVR to justify Weid in for Brown, lol. How about just JVR for Bedford, so BBB gets some decent help in the air. Weid did nothing to deserve promotion. Mitch Brown actually had a more impactful game.
  16. You clearly didn't watch the last quarter either.
  17. Laurie, JVR, Hunt, Dunstan and Chandler all put their hands up for selection. At the very least, Oliver is out for Dunstan. Laurie and Chandler should be in for Spargo and Bedford. Hunt should be in for Bowey. If we change our forward structure, JVR comes in for Sparrow or ANB.
  18. Whilst I agree that the gap between VFL and AFL is massive, unless you give players an opportunity, how can they prove themselves? JVR is a must in for me. You can see from the highlights that he's prepared to sit under the ball to take a mark, which is something lacking in Weid's game. And if he was selected next week, he'd probably be matched by Trent McKenzie.
  19. So you prefer players who aren't getting near the ball? And Dunstan and Hunt's disposal isn't as bad as what some on here perpetuate. Based on their Casey form, they are a chance to be included.
  20. The Weid experiment is over. Time for JVR to be added to the forward mix. In: Hunt, JVR, Dunstan Out: Bedford, Bowey, Spargo. JVR to give us another forward marking option. Hunt to replace Bowey who's struggled for a while. Dunstan to give us more grunt at stoppages and someone who can find the pill.
  21. Outplayed all night. No excuses. So many players made little to no contribution. It's all very well applying forward pressure, but Kossie, Spargo, Bedford and ANB need to get their hands on the ball.
  22. Spot on, and you can add Daw and Bell in the ruck when they've played. I've watched most of Casey's games, and the backline has been a far cry from the Seniors. They are often caught out leaking goals out the back due to poor structure. In the game against North, i remember Ryan Koo competing for a mark against 4 North players in the goal square, and he almost spoiled it. No other Casey player in sight. Rosman, Dek Smith and McVee have all had their moments, but I wouldn't guarantee that they'll all still be on the list next year.
  23. For future reference. When Goody says this about Weid, "we're happy with how he's developing", it's code for "he's shown nothing at AFL level, and will be playing at Casey in the foreseeable future".
  24. Ideally we'd love to have the same structure as our Premiership team, but Weid hasn't shown he can play the T Mac role. So the selection panel need to decide whether Bedford offers more than Weid, regardless of structure. Against the Cats they'll go with Bedford IMO.
  25. Disagree. The journo talked about Weid's game last week in gushing terms. Goody just said that they are happy with Weid's development. I guess we'll see who's right.
