  1. I think you'll find that both those players had the utmost respect for Craig just like the rest of the players.

You're probably dead right, but that says nothing of Craig's opinion of them.

They could very well find themselves quickly back on the scrap heap.

To be honest, I think NC is a smart man, and if he is, those 2 should be there, especially Moloney.

  2. He looks a million bucks now, but remember he has had to miss the entire season up to this point due to injury, after having a good preseason and reporting he was injury free just before round 1. He probably won't even survive Geelong's finals campaign.

The bloke is a certainty to miss at least half the season.

Can we deal with that? What will he be able to teach the clubs kids while he is off in rehab?

Maybe as an assistant coach, but I think as a player his days are unfortunately done.

The mind is willing, but the body not so much.

It's a shame, cos we could definitely use him.

  3. And what about Neil Craig interviewing with Lions?

    I find this quite amusing.

I'm not privy to Craig's feelings, but I imagine he in part shared some of the same attitudes as Neeld towards the players.

I wonder how he felt in regards to Moloney and Martin?

It's not exactly Neeld, but it's possible that Craig could be the absolute next closest thing!

Karma might just be a b*tch afterall...

  4. It gets messy for Lynch, if he does plan to become List Manager.

He'll be forced to sell his stake in the player agency before taking on the role.

The Todd Viney scenario worries me slightly, but we simply can't be held ransom to providing a position for Todd in spite of his capabilities for the next decade plus, if we don't have a specific role he can perform.

I doubt he'd want that either.

But the mail is that George Stone would head up a development academy/program?

Can't imagine TV working beneath Stone.

He'll need to slot in somewhere, but he also needs to be the right man for the job.

I'm sure TV would feel the same.

And what about Jason Taylor? After waiting all that time!

  5. If Magner gets delisted (and if they're not going to play him, why keep a spot on the list for him), I genuinely hope another club drafts him and he tears it up. I don't see how he's any less effective than Beamer as an inside, see-the-ball-get-the-ball-pound-the-thing-vaguely-forwards kind of player. Beamer is good enough at that to be one of the better players in a midfield nearly good enough for the eight, so I can't see why Magner isn't good enough at it for the worst midfield in the league.

You're kidding, you rate Moloney too??

He was the bane of my existence at MFC.

So glad he is now destroying the chances of another young midfield.

Personally, I think you need to look beyond individual stats and observe the impact they have on the side as a whole and what they are trying to do re driving the ball forward and maintaining possession.

Turnovers in transition kill teams, especially young ones.

  6. One small point - his family all moved up to GC to live near him.

His brother Lachie Weller is in line for the 2014 draft, highly rated, based on the GC, not tassie where they originally come from.

Not being near family isn't the problem.

Maybe having them there reinforcing the superstar mindset is the problem?

Either way, I was surprised something went wrong.

Probably shouldn't have been, since it happens all the time, but I thought he looked to have all the tools to have a long career.

  7. Define "hurt".

2-3 goals a game is an irrelevance when you are this poor, but cutting out culture cancers makes a big difference.

I'd much prefer having kids on the list like Viney, Toumpas & Kent.

I think Rodan, Byrnes and Dawes with their leadership have been much better influences on the kids.

Keeping Moloney, Petterd and Rivers might have meant we didn't get Matt Jones or Terlich, due to spots and list balance.

I'm damn sure I'm glad those 3 are gone.

  8. So you're willing to abuse other posters for supporting Dunn, but not willing to make a concrete statement as to whether Melbourne's next coach, most likely Paul Roos, will put him in the team for round 1 next year?

    Brave poster, you are.

Oh, that's what you want me to answer?

I'm guessing he will be kept, since he's contracted.

I'm also guessing that he will get a game at some stage under Roos.

    Don't think he'll play round 1. Maybe round 4?

I think he looks like should be a much better contributor than he is, and he should.

Once Roos sees him up close for a few matches, either Dunn will change his ways or Roos will banish him to Casey.

    I'm guessing he won't change.

  9. Nah, it was really more my general attitude towards that poster, but to me his opinion of Dunn confirms it.

Regardless of what the stats say, far too often when I see the ball to near Dunn, he makes a decision that may not show up as a negative stat, but has a negative effect on our side's ball movement.

He plays a "safe" defeatist game style and puts his own teammates into hard positions instead of putting the onus on himself to make things happen.

No, I don't know more than those coaches, and I'd have kept him if I were in the same positions.

But Dunn has to date now made it clear to me that he is not worth persevering with.

He might not get into trouble too often himself, but he is a walking stalemate.

Good offence is a good defence. And a good defence is a good offence.

You've gotta out pressure on your opposition, and Dunn instead puts it on his teammates.

Players do that from time to time, but he does it too often.

It's a habit and what he aims to do.

Now either the coaches have had too much else to focus on and not worried about focusing on his performance and how it could be changed, or he simply won't change.

But his senior influence on the side saps a lot of our drive.

  10. You might be leading the Demonland argumentum ad hominem award this year, so allow me to respond in kind.

    [censored].

    :(

Haha takes one to know one, nerdlinger.

Try watching the game for once instead of staring at the stats column.

No need to sign off your posts, your name is at the top.

  11. I agree, Chook. Some of the recruiting looks very attractive at the moment but sitting next to them are Gillies, Pederson, Rodan etc...

Kent, M Jones, Terlich, could actually teach players like Watts and Sylvia about application.

Add Hogan and Barry and the recruiting looks passable.

I'd put the blame for Gillies, Rodan, Pedersen and Byrnes squarely on Kelly O'Donnell, considering his role as the pro scout.

  12. I don't think Green as an example has any bearing here, but for a while now I've said this seems to often be Watts' problem.

He skirts around packs in an obvious way like he has been told "you are so sublimely skilled, we want you to be RECEIVING the handball to kick it forward, not going in for the hard footy getting tackled"

I'd have thought that is obviously only the case when it's a clear option to stay out and let your teammates get the footy for you, as in, when arriving late to a contest you're likely to win, but if needs it spelled out for him, so be it.

  13. Yes.

i thought it was one of his softer games. He didn't hit bodies when he should have, he didn't chase as hard as he should have and in general he tiptoed around the edges. There are times when you have to hit your opponents body first with your torso when flying for a mark. You do this to better position yourself and have them off balance. Watts avoids this and missed marks he should have taken accordingly.

He's a terribly soft footballer. But yes, he's a great set shot for goal.

    I thought the same thing.

Typical Jack Watts, with soft efforts and laziness on display for all to see.

But come the end of the game, I thought to myself "Christ, if Watts can play like that and finish with a lazy 4 goals, imagine what he could do if Roos turns him into a real footballer..."

If Roos sees fit to persevere with him, I'll be pretty happy.

If he'd rather use him to get a Selwood or Adams, fine by me.

  14. I really cant understand some posters here and their attitude to Dunn

He works hard kicks well competes well and has a very high disposal efficiency

He made 1 clanger yesterday and was easily in our best

    give the guy a break

Sorry mate, but that about sums up your footy knowledge, I think.

  15. Dunn also put McDonald in the position where he was forced to perform a dinky little kick across goal, that predictably was turned over for a dogs goal. No need to give the handball to T-Mac who was rapidly going back with the flight of the ball, but in perfect line for 2 opponents to intercept him, forcing a quick rushed disposal in tight space with only 1 valid albeit dangerous option.

Dunn should've taken the responsibility and taken the game on.

He was in the boxseat to burn the opponents and drive it back out, but he chose the poor and soft option of making it someone else's problem. Gutless.

    Made me sick.

  16. It's not Roos alone, it's the domino effect that comes with signing him.

Watch pieces like Walsh, Ling, Simpson, Tudor, Stone, Kenelly all fall into place shortly thereafter.

(Not saying all will, but a fair chunk of that).

    The only shame is Craig.

I have a lot of love for that crazy old bloke with the short shorts and long socks.
