  1. Chip's "panacking"?

    I reckon chippa does alright.

It's more the lack of options given to him by his soft-running teammates.

I'd give him some latitude given he's the key cog in a defense under siege for about 90% of game time.

I definitely don't see him as some who panics (or makes pancakes).

But the point is that McDonald should continue to transition like a line breaking mid.

He just needs to work on fixing disposal and decision-making skills.

  2. Amazing this thread has so quickly turned to a debate on priority picks and "I'm a better supporter than you are."

    Wasn't this about Brett Allison?

Anyway, I always thought he looked like a bloke you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

Heard he's a quality coach and a quality bloke too. A good appointment.

  3. That's the key. Taking the game on is all well and good, but he needs to realise he's not a line-breaking midfielder

    Not at all.

His absolute to very quickly assess what situation he is in, and turn defends into attack, breaking lines, is an absolute weapon.

He just needs to get better at his disposal and deciding what to do with it once he does that.

I'd be happy for him to be pumping it long to true CHF until then.

  4. This is a player who was taking speccies in the forward line to seal matches.

His ferocity at the contest and vicious tackling left us all proud and howling down the penalty for a sling tackle on Dangerfield.

This guy was capable of having a match-winning influence.

Something has changed, but he was that guy.

I'm convinced he has "manageable" OP, and it's crippling him.

We've seen a similar thing with Luke Ball years ago, and he came back from it.

Someone call David Buttifant, find out what he did & save Trengove's career.

  5. He also didn't play a lot of their early selected kids, for whatever reason got them disillusioned, and now half a dozen of them want to leave.

Not a great legacy to leave.

But... I think if put in a position where Voss was made accountable to someone like Roos, he'd not have the chance to do this.

Roos would pull him into line and monitor this sort of thing.

As far as simply coaching goes, I think he'd be an asset.

Perfectly happy for him to be midfield line coach, provided we have another (Scott Burns is my bet) as senior assistant.

  6. I spoke to a client today, who has a connection to the Watts family. Apparently, Paul Connors (Watts' manager) has been desperately trying to convince Jack to get a deal done with Carlton. However, after meeting with Roos on a couple of occasions now, Jack has been so impressed that he will almost definitely re-sign.

That hardly sounds like Connors is looking after Watts' best interests.

In fact, it sounds like he has a completely different agenda.

  7. Nice.

Say what you want about Watts, but we cant have any more of our brightest payers walking out.

    It is a culture killer.

Article also states that Melbourne and Collingwood are both after Taylor Adams.

Amazingly, after the events of the last week, I think I'd say we're actually in a better position than Collingwood to attract a guy like Taylor Adams...

Although, don't be surprised if he chooses the Pies. Adams was playing U/16 for Vic Country when Buckley was their coach in between media stints. Adams was the coach's pet at the time.

I know some kids that played in that team, and at the time they said Buckley consistently used Adams as the example of what the others should aspire to.

  8. I find it impossible to believe that Trengove doesn't have groin issues. Problems with the groin greatly effect your power off the mark and the young Trengove I saw didn't run like he had concrete in his boots.

Trengove looks exactly like Luke Ball prior to moving to Collingwood.

They gave him a full time personal physio from memory, and it'd be worth us outlaying the cost of that for Trengove IMHO.

  9. Scott Burns has been an assistant at West Coast for 5 years....2 years under Roos would take him to 7.

    Neeld did 3.

    Leigh Brown 2.

Neeld actually had 4 years at Collingwood.

2 as defensive line coach, and 2 as midfield line coach.

  10. A.Clarkson coached Central Districts before he went to Hawthorn.....just saying

A.Clarkson coached Central Districts before he went to Hawthorn.....just saying

What about the years he spent as an assistant at Port?

Anyway, not likely a candidate for the senior assistant role, but David Teague is leaving WestCoast to come back to Melbourne.

Could be a candidate as an assistant, depending on who we keep.

  11. If the aim is pure survival as a club, and maybe a chance to scrape into the 8 in the next 5 years, then we should achieve that without a PP.

But just aiming for survival will not achieve anything.

Support will continue to dwindle as faint hope isn't enough.

The club may survive for some time, but the fans won't be able to.

And that will lead to some conclusion for the club that I'd rather not contemplate.

  12. How about this:

can anyone name any club that has ever received a priority pick and deserved it?

Ok, since no one can come up with a decent answer to this question, I'll take it a step further and ask another:

Can anyone name any club that has ever received a priority pick and needed it?

The concept of need is highly subjective in this instance.

It all centres on what purpose you may need it for.

If the aim is to be a contender for a premiership in the next 5 years, we do need it.

So what are WE or the AFL aiming to achieve here?

  13. So... Rumours around that we WOULD get a priority pick, at the same time as rumours of Roos coming, but well before Roos confirmed are to be ignored...

But fresh rumours in the last week based on Hutchy & Barret's hunches, that we WILL NOT get a priority pick, should be taken as gospel..?

Well, considering they were ALL OVER the Roos thing...

  14. Has Bassett even been an AFL assistant?

    Only SANFL to my knowledge.

Not that it should be an impediment - Ling hasn't even done that.

Bassett is obviously very highly regarded, so if there's a little truth to it, I wouldn't be against it.

To say Roos' interviews haven't started yet might be a bit misleading, as PJ has obviously already been in touch with Ling and McDonald.

In fact, if you think about it, that they were even approached may indicate that Roos had agreed to sign long before the official announcement, if you believe the train of thought that a coach should choose his assistants, and more importantly his successor, in this particular setup.

  15. Why list the picks we've had & at what number?

In isolation they'll always suit your argument and look impressive.

Why not simply list the picks we've received over and above what every single other club has received?

Because that amounts to 2 picks, and then one of them being later transposed into 2 later picks.

    Doesn't suit your argument though?

    I think you've been torpedoed...

  16. Did we pick poorly or did we destroy them with our blind faith in high draft picks?

And no, listing the picks we got without acknowledging whether or not any were compensation picks would be misleading. I simply listed the draft picks we have received each year, specifically acknowledging any PPs or CPs.

Who has "blind faith in high draft picks"? Maybe you?

We wasted them with poor selection and poor development.

    That is not relevant now.

The entire footy department has been replaced since.

It's not about whingeing about what we've done in the past.

It's where we are now, and what assistance is fair to get us competitive again.

I dare say, some posters has been totally sucked in by blowhards like Barrett and other clubs.

I'm a little embarrassed for them, that they are so feeble-minded.

  17. Worsfold has officially turned down any potential offer to be coach at Brisbane, according to the AFL website.

The may still go for Neil Craig, but it does increase the likelihood that both of Simpson and Burns may be unavailable for us.

I think they are the clubhouse leaders in terms of preference.

  18. my first post ever: what about J-MAC?? Might not have had alot of success, but always played with ALOT of heart, is a smart guy, small amount of experience with GWS... plus i love him

He has already turned the club down for an assistant position.

Wants to stay at GWS for the time being.

  19. I'd do the deal, no question.

Swallow had a lacklustre year, but was playing in a foreign position on a HBF because they needed drive out of there.

McKenna has already stated their priority in the trade period is to bring in a high quality HBF (or a couple of years ago mentioned as the QB role) to give them drive, so that Swallow can slip back into the middle.
