  1. I'm like a catholic schoolgirl with a crush, desperately pining for Roos.

    Fulltime blue sky junkie.

But if I connect the dots a little...

Lions are now sure they won't have Roos.

They also allegedly see Worsfold as a definite possibility.

Could this be because Roos told them his family would be moving to Perth?

    Just putting it out there.

And I'd love Tudor as an assistant.

Success has followed him. But considering the successful programs he has been involved in, and the fact his name in all that time has NEVER popped up as a potential head coach, tells me that either he doesn't want to top job, or doesn't have the managerial skills for it, or whatever it is that might be missing that makes him not a legitimate candidate to sit in the hot seat.

With that in mind, I think the club will have interviewed both of Simpson and Tudor as assistants in a coaching dream team to support an experienced head coach.

And in line with my schoolgirl fantasy, I'll continue believe that is Roos until someone else is announced or he pops up somewhere else.

  2. I hope that if Roos told PJ the same thing, that PJ makes that available publicly so we can all just move on.

I appreciate the transparency of the Lions.

I wouldn't be so appreciative and assume the transparency is so noble.

Angus Johnson is only making that announcement in an effort to save his own skin, as a rival ticket is challenging his place on the board based on the premise that he is not fit to lure Roos as coach.

  3. Quite clearly you've not read anything I've written beyond a quick skim, you have no interest in discussion beyond pushing your own opinion, have no idea whatsoever about what I'm even talking about, or have gleaned any insight as to how analytical thinking can improve one's perception of a given situation.

In short, I'm bored of arguing with you. Good day sir.

    Oh, I've read.

    But I don't agree.

You're not the authority on Dunn and how football statistics are to be applied.

Quite clearly you don't like anyone who has the gall to disagree with you, or your assertion that statistics are infallible, provided you use them in a way that suits your agenda.

  4. Those statistics do not take into account a bevy of pertinent factors:

    - Dunn's opponent in the contest

    - Dunn picking & choosing his contests

    - his inability to get to some contests

    - what he does with the ball when he does win the contest

    - how often it is against his own man, as opposed to how often he is contesting against a teammates opponent

Therefore, in isolation, those stats are misleading.

However, I do concede that they indicate, that when Dunn is involved in a 50/50 contest, he wins more often than anyone else.

But that's like crowing about a high goalkicking efficiency when you only have shots from the goalsquare, in comparison to a highly skilled player who is willing to roll the dice from 50 out on the boundary.

Furthermore, this thread, as defined by the OP, is not about Dunn's one singular excellent stat.

It is about Dunn's general propensity to make stupid mistakes that harm his team more than any of his positive actions benefit it.

And this one anomaly does not cancel out his negatives for me (subjective opinion).

  5. He also doesn't lose a lot of contests because he doesn't quite get there in time to actually be involved in that contest.

You watch him on the field, and he's an expert at making his last couple of steps look like be busted a gut to get there, but it was physically impossible. It's a variation of "losers' limp."

  6. I can imagine that the AFL will force us to announce our new coach to draw attention away from the currently unfolding disaster at Essendon and get it off the back page. (Probably still be on the front page though)

An announcement of priority picks would do that fairly effectively.

  7. The firsts come, unsurprisingly, first.

If, within that, the club can accommodate Casey so that they also get the best result, fantastic.

    If not, so be it.

It's unfortunate, but these injuries were not planned.

And if Casey want to be out first, frankly, I'm happy to see them rot.

    But I don't think that's the case.

It's instead a handful of supporters with unrealistic expectations.

    They'll learn to deal.

  8. I might not have been clear, but that is also my opinion.

But some gutter journos, in an effort to give MFC another kick in the guts during coverage of one of our litany of incidents, have made that claim.

Can't remember who or where, but it was sufficiently obnoxious enough to stick in my memory.

  9. Pretty sure that was Hardwicks interview at Essendon not Melb

Not sure. It may have been. I wasn't there and it's too long ago.

But I've since seen it reported that Hardwick "tanked" his interview, attributing that as happening when interviewing for the job Bailey eventually "won".

  10. Johnston has taken time to mature, but looks ready at Adelaide.

Lamb is also getting games now in a top 4 team heading into finals.

    Culture helps.

Re: priority picks, I really like the idea of giving us a minidraft.

    It worked well for GWS.

In fact, I can't figure out why they got such a clear extra advantage that GCS never had.

But with the 2014 draft supposedly being deeper than this year for talent, those picks would be very handy.

Mini-pick 1 to GWS for Adams & their mid-1st round pick? Yes please.

  11. Isn't that the reason we didn't offer the gig to Damien Hardwick in 2007?

    True.

Reportedly his laptop had a last minute breakdown and Hardwick was unable to give his planned PowerPoint presentation.

I've also a couple of years later seen it reported that it was the excuse given due to Hawthorn being unhappy with him using large chunks of their IP in an interview, or that he "threw" he interview because he didn't want the job (when he could've just turned it down if offered).

But surely, when Roos, Eade, Craig and Williams all have similar records and glowing references, shouldn't the interview form a large part of what we judge the candidates on?

I'm not talking whether they are nervous or not.

It'd be about their individual perceptions of where the list is at, what needs to be done and how they will do it.

And if he wasn't impressive in articulating that, I'd be very careful.

  12. Considering the AFL Commission met at 8am today, but reportedly did not hear from Essendon til 2pm, and also were discussing the potential scrapping of the interchange cap proposal, does that mean in the coming days we will probably see a result of our application for a priority pick?

    I'd like to think so.

Actually, it probably won't be til after the final round of matches to prevent any manipulation of results.

Even though we are playing the dogs, I think they should be strong favourites, and after Gold Coast's form on the weekend, we could even end up with a wooden spoon.

    Interesting days ahead.
