  1. I know it was not all MN fault that the MFC is in the trouble it is in.

But I still feel that a public flogging at the next AGM is still deserved. Mr Hogans_Heroes can you use a cat of nine tails?

Oh well I just have to be satified that he been so publicly sacked.

Does the MFC not have lawyers who can draft contracts to protect the financial interests of its members. There must be a way not to pay MN $600K as he has been the worst Senior Coach in the history of the Club, if not the league.

Bye Mark and thanks for all the memories as the Senior Coach. It will take years of intense therapy before I can truly recover.

That finally said I will give my support to Craige as the new temporary Senior Coach of the MFC.

As my Rant is finally over so now on to that 13th Premiership!

  2. Make no mistake - Mark Neeld was told to come in and put a rocket up every single senior player. He was given unprecedented scope to do it his way and change the festering wound that is the MFC. Then, he cops it and has his career destroyed based on doing nothing more than executing his plan. Yes, it may have been a flawed execution, but he was given 3 years to do it because it was, and is, the hardest task in football. He didn't get the chance because everyone got spooked.

Make no mistake - Bailey was told to lose. Then, when it suited, the administration turfed him too for not winning enough.

I thought I told them both to just WIN!

  3. I'm furious at the whole club. Disgraceful performance for the past 6 years.

Please MFC, just let me go to the footy thinking that we might have a shot at winning this.

I'm sick of being mocked, pitied, and all the cheap shots.

Bring back the passion, fire and stick it up em.

    Agree

  4. I am furious.

We are an unprofessional bunch of mugs. But it's worse than that. Our club sells fraudulent hope, and ruins the careers of perfectly good and competent people, whether they be players or coaches.

When I think of all the money donated, all the functions where bulltish was spouted out of the mouths of these people. All the suspicions about disharmony, lack of professionalism were dismissed.... yet, it was almost all true.

I get that almost all those involved in the above issues are going, going and gone from the club. But the lack of spine and the level of incompetence and dishonesty is literally breathtaking.

    Rant over.

Personally I am very happy that Mark Neeld is no longer the senior coach of the MFC.

As far as I can tell, he was a very poor coach and his term as the senior coach for the MFC will be remebered as a disaster.

    Let the true recovery begin.

I was at an amateurs game yesterday and met a Melbourne supporter who was laying into Mark Neeld and blaming him for every ill under the sun including the "disgraceful decision he made to sack Junior McDonald". Unfortunately, that is exactly what passes for debate among many here.

I wrote previously that in the main, the history of war is written by the winners and so today, those who opposed the current board are having their field day conflating fact with fiction and wringing their hands with glee about being right and for allegedly having made fools of people. But if you truly support the club, that's reminiscent of Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned.

It's still a matter of opinion as to how good or bad the board has been overall. I think it's undeniable that it inherited a financially stricken club with a decaying player list brought about by years of poor coaching, woeful development and diabolical list management (it's simplistic to claim that anyone is blaming the recruiters alone but that's the nature of this discussion). It repaired the club's disasterous financial state to an extent but it was unable to get things right on the football side and for that we are currently in the crisis which has seen Cameron Schwab, Don McLardy and others fall. No doubt there's more to come.

Those who have gone have taken responsibility and now it's time to move on, or (as I quoted previously) in the words of the philosopher Life can Soren Kierkegaard:-

"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards."

I'm assuming people are interested in getting Melbourne out of its current crisis which is not the first we've had and is no more dire than it was when we were broke and the AFL claimed we stood for nothing. Time to move on.

Pity Romans did not have flddles so its was not possible for Nero to play one. But never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The job of fixing the MFC is not over with Don's resignation so there nothing to celebrate at this time. However when the Club is in a position to be competative at AFL level then the recovery has really started..

People are justified to get upset with those who hold positions of authority/influence and have not been capable of performing their duties to the standard that had been expected.

However there is a time to move on from where the Club is now, But noone should forget what has been done to this once great Club as this will only lead to a repeat of this terrible tragedy.

  6. No, but it does make the anti-Neeld lobby collectively look about five years old. I have no particular objection to it, as the childishness of the little joke merely serves to reduce the credibility of everything else they have to say. At the moment the majority of them seem to be arguing the case that "Neeld has to go because!" and "We've made up a childish nickname for him to show how bad he is!" Very few of them are even trying to put up a reasoned case for his dismissal.

Should we even bother to answer this one!

But I am starting to understand the real problems facing the MFC. Too many people are clearly on mind effecting drugs!

As they are clearly making up their own reality.

  7. I was one of the handful of people on demonland calling for Neelds head at round 5, 2012.

Most of you shouted us down. We knew a lemon when we saw one.

    An apology would be nice.

    Agreed

I waited until the Suns game this year to call for his removal.

As I wanted to give him some time to show what he can do, But now I had enough, the guys is an awful coach.

He came to the MFC thinking he was hot stuff as he came from a more successful Club. But the reality is he needed to prove himself as a coach before annoying most of the then Senor Players.

Some may say he needs to be given more time or at least to the end of his contract (end of next year), but what can be achieved in 18 months when currently the team is averaging about 13 goals losing scores a game. Even if this margin is reduced to 5 or 6 goals is that enough improvement? In my opinion he has lost the support of the majority of members and supporters and needs to go now.

If the team can not afford to sack him then do a restructure and take him away from the actual coaching position and give him something he would be more suited to i.e. Cleaning the change rooms after each games.

  8. Ah well played! But he is originally the god of thunder - his insatiable appetite/role for killing giants is why people later called him the god of war.

But you're right - definately someone forgot to pray. I blame the ususal suspects: Schwab, Morton and Watts.

Too many people have been praying to Dionysus during the games...

Dionysus would have rejoiced in Jurrah, told Wonna to let loose with more, would have told em all to go for it, and ditch the statistics and KPI's and all that rational rational drivel. Dionysus would save us, upend the naysayers and rebuilders and corporate beckscratchers, tip over the whole reasoned approach - and a very vengeful character if you insist on sober and serious denial of all that he stands for. Barassi's handball Grand Final was close to the Dionysus brand of mayhem. So was Liam Jurrah on the field, every time.

At least we can maintain our sense of humour

    Well Done Guys!

  9. Back to the topic.

Sweet Pea I think you are close to the mark with your list.

Too many Dees supporters think our list is way better than it is and blame the coach.

I have little idea if Neeld can coach or not but when you only 14 AFL standard player it is next to impossible I would think.

IMO our list is easily the worst in the competition. It has taken 8 years to reduce it to this level.

It will take 2 -3 to make it even competitive.

Good News I have heard that the MFC has sacrificed a few collingwood supporters to the GOD Odin this week end so things should improve from now on.

  10. Funnily enough, we're both on the same page, except for the coach.

There's so much to sort, I believe that he needs more time.

Its great we can agree on somethings but I can not stop thinking at another year with MN will achieve nothing good for the MFC. But lets say for the point of the discussion things do improve for him in 2014 there little chance of him getting a new contract to go beyond that time as he is damged goods.

I don't believe he will be a Senior Coach for another AFL team.

  11. You're.

No. Give him a midfield and then let's see.

I reckon the culture is almost sorted.

Neeld is building relationships with those who understand what it takes to belong and succeed in an elite competition. Those who chose not to are kicking off the dew in the ressies.

There is so much i could say about this but what the point. True believers never change their mind and so much has been said already.

All I will say is there no point having the best coach in the league if the majority of the Supporters don't support him, but that for another thread.

I just hope that the MFC recruit players in 2014 and beyond who respect and actually want to play for the Club.

Better to have less skilled players who put in 100% effort each week, Now thats a team worth watching!

  12. Only 3, perhaps 4 mids on the list. The Swans have a dozen or so players that can rotate through the middle.

The irony compounds itself as under Daniher, we had too many mids, not enough KPPs.

Under a new regime, Neeld must be given the opportunity to see if he can coach or not.

    Your JOKING, right?
