you say it will do little the MFC, then you say it will make us much more competitive

I mean to say if MFC needs to do more then change the coach as this will ultimately achive a very short term outcome. As if only the coach is changed (he should go!) it will be like moving the seats in the Titanic, gives us something to do, but takes eyes of the real issues and will not substancially change the tradgic outcome. I personally want MFC to win Premierships, the more the better.

Does anyone seriously think the current leadership and football department at MFC will achieve this outcome within the next 10 to 20 years, if never?

The coach must go but so should other who are clearly struggling in their positions as a new coach will need to have the best chance to significantly improve the teams performance. The members and supporters of MFC then need to unite under the new coach as the continual change and criticism of its coaches will ultimately only achieve another 50 years in the obyss (No Premiership).

  2. I am afraid to say simply changing the coach will do little for MFC, besides giving its supports a short term satisfaction and making the team much more competitive.

I was prepared to have a couple of very unsuccessful season to all the MFC to achieve a Premiership! But wanted to see continual improvement in the on field performance. I was obviously sold a lemon by the powers to be at MFC with that one.

Teams will have their good years and bad, we all accept that! But MFC has had it fair share of bad, it’s time for someone else to have their turn with bad results (my vote is for Collingwood or Fremantle). Personally I will not accept any more continue on field failure by my club.

I don’t really care who the new coach is as long as the current Senior Coach is gone and the replacement is appropriately experienced with a realistic game plan (something out team can actually do without getting consistently flogged!). The person must have the ability to coach a premiership team now and not in five or ten years once they learn what coaching is all about. Oh nobody from Collingwood please, been there and done that (which has resulted in MFC becoming the joke of the AFL).

There needs to be a change at all levels within MFC or we will simple be talking about replacing the replacement coach in another 18 months’ time. I really want MFC to recruit a Senior Coach I can get fully support and respect. But more importantly I want to Senior Coach to have the resources he needs to win a Premiership within the next 3 to 5 years (Next year would be even better but nobody could expect that).

Sadly the truth is MFC would consider itself very lucky if it could win a Flag in the next 10 or 20 years, but I want to maintain the faith!

I find it hard to publicly criticise the Senior Coach of any football club I support but the loss last week to the Suns was the last straw for me. It’s better to kill the cancer quickly then to die a slow and painful death.

  3. Please get someone with expeience, at the very lest does not take 3 to 5 years to show a return and can win more then four games a season!

But for the supporters sake don't let anyone who pick the current Senior Coach anywhere near the selection panel! Better still lets get an independent selection panel to assist, someone we can sue to fund any early payout if they get it wrong!

My final request is don't get anyone from COLLINGWOOD! We have not got that desperate yet or have we?

  4. Did you ever consider that what he's saying might be the truth of the situation? The truth hurts but until we face it we are not going to start doing the hard work that needs to be done. How does what Neeld says indicate he's out of his depth? It seems to me he's being very clear about the magnitude of the task ahead and is not selling false hope. I still believe that when things turn around they will turn pretty quickly and that a lot of us are going to have to eat some humble pie. It might not be pleasant but the facts are the facts. If he came out each week and raised expectations with false bravado we'd be complaining just as loudly.

Where should I start? Was it his comments about having recruited well in the off season, the comments the AFL investigation had no impact on the football department which he later indicated may not have been true. Or maybe the constant comments about having so many players with under 50 games experience (who decided to replace 14 players?), the comments that Melbourne trained so well in the preseason and played well in the Preseason Cup so he could not understand the 148 point flogging by Essendon was a particular favourite. But do I need to go on?

Melbourne FC won four games last season and will likely only win one or maybe two this year (I hope I am wrong). The Issue with the Club come from more than the Senior Coach but we all have to start somewhere.

I see no passion in his coaching or with his players. Is it wrong to expect the coach to get fired up after massive losses or do we expect them to roll over and make excuse after excuse, Even a modification to the game play (if we have one) would be nice. Even if he has the world best game play why not stage the player’s development of it!

I do in fact appreciate hearing the truth from someone I respect (not someone who is simply making excuses) and consider would assist the Club to be as AWESOME as it should be. The current Senior Coach will never get this Club to the final eight, let alone win a Grand Final! The final straw was a the loss to a third year Club, last week (Melbourne FC came so close to losing to a second year Club a few weeks ago).

There is a difference between knowing there a problem and having the skill and experience to resolve them.

I will no longer sit back and say nothing about how Melbourne FC is being run in the football department, I would be more than happy to say I was wrong (as my heart beats true for the red and blue) if things improve quickly!

  5. It will take more like 10 to 20 year rebuilding program!

The Club will needs time to learn how to win again after 5 years of failed rebuilding programs (was it 1,2 or 3 rebuilding programs again?).

Does anyone seriously believe Melbourne FC will be a serious challenger for the flag in 3 to 5 years?

  6. It would be better for any Melbourne FC supporters and members not to listen, read or watch anything the current Senior Coach says. It will only lead to more confusion and pain!

Personally the more I try to understand the current Senior Coach by reading his media releases and other public statements the more it appears to me he is out of his depth as an AFL Coach. Peter Jackson should really review all his comments and statements before they are released to any media outlet.

  7. As a Melbourne FC supporter it pains me to say it will take many years just to build to a basic AFL standard team, let alone to be a series challenger for the any Flag.

I agree that the remainder of the season is all about getting RESPECT for our Club. The most important area will be:

    • RESPECT from the football community, and
    • RESPECT from its Members and Supporters.

The question is can the Club get this RESPECT without taking some radical changes in the Clubs Leadership group? The leadership group includes the Senior Coach, Coaching Staff, President, Entire Recruiting Department etc...

Supporters and Members cannot be too critical of the playing group (as much as many may want too) as they have been setup to fail by the so called leaders/decision makers at the Club.

Melbourne FC appears from recent media releases/statements that the Club is full of people with good intentions but who has little to no skill and/or experience in their areas of responsibility.

Melbourne requires a complete independent review and assessment of the clubs on field operations. This is necessary so the Club can implement a workable new plan (one that does not rely on the TOTAL humiliation of the Club on field performance over the next five or more years) to win its 13th plus FLAGS!

  8. I can no longer just simply stand by and say nothing after reading the many comments from our Senior Coach this year, which indicate to me his total lack of understanding of the game (or is it he just wants to feed us all a load of spin!). Last year I was annoyed with the performance of the Club, but still showed my support by becoming a member for the first time and hoping 2013 would be a much better year (how could I have been so WRONG!).

After reading the current comments from our Senior Coach I wanted to make some comments and ask a few questions of my own.

    1. "We've got a real clear understanding of where we're at and we've got a really clear vision of where we want to get to and how we're going to get there."

Does this mean it was a deliberate approach by the Board and Coaches to assemble an uncompetitive team in 2012 and beyond? Did the Board and Coaches really plan to have the Melbourne FC consistently achieve substandard performances?

There was a comment from the Senior Coach that he was surprised by the 148 point loss to Essendon as we training and played so well in the preseason comp (Does any club take the preseason seriously besides US!).

    2. "There's no short term fix, it's a long term fix. We're doing exactly what everyone said the football club needed to do two to three years ago,"

Agree with the first part of this comment as it will take Melbourne FC Ten to Twenty Years to be in a position to challenge for its 13th flag again. When a team accepts LOSING it because a cultural Virus to any club which takes years to be cleansed. Who was saying two or three years ago that Melbourne FC needed to build a totally inexperienced and uncompetitive team who should get totally smashed and humiliated every week? Where they Collingwood Supporters by any chance!

Can someone please answer these questions for me! As it’s looking very much like I will be voting for urgent significant change at all levels of management of our great club when I next get the chance.
