Joke of the day

turkey of the day award to him ,big joke cant kick if blues resign him look forward to wooden spoon in 08

He's only playing on one leg, and even though he's trimmed down it's always doubtful with Lance that it will stay that way. It's extremely unlikely he will be at the Blues next year... but for a big joke he certainly had the last laugh on Chopper, gave him a bath.

if he had of kicked straight he would have definitely been traded

ohhh big red even with all your freckles your still not ready.

Don't forget, we were desperate to get him a few years ago, which would have been a catastrophe.

Biffinator.

Depends, he may have been a great player with a different club

Yeh, I have to say, he kicked badly yesterday, but a fit Whitnall is a good footballer.

Smashed Carroll, just can't kick any more. Carrol needs to have a good hard look at himself over summer. I know people think he should be considered a 3rd defender and not the cage gorilla but he should be good enough to shade a player of Whitnalls ability and lack of pace especially when he is on one leg. Nowhere near good enough.

Yes, he did smash Carroll. But I don't think Carroll has been smashed all year by any stretch in fairness.

With the lack of midfield pressure, I think Carroll has been in our best 12 this year.

considering we have played 39 players this season and he was one of only 4 players to play 21 or 22 games...

For all his problems, Whitnall is still one of the best contested marks in the league.

I wouldn't touch Whitnall for MFC with a 40 foot barge pole if he became available but there are reasons why he has been highly rated in the past and was made Carlton's captain this year (a poor decision in hindsight, but understandable at the time).

I think we just have to accept that Carroll is a good honest trier, but he's not a star and will never be. That's not meant as a criticism but just as an honest assessment. He will look much better in a very good team and much worse in an ordinary team because of it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
