R.I.P Dutchy? Won't be signed for next year with an injury like that and already so far on the fringe. How ironic that he hit two lace-out passes consecutively and then was injured so badly.

Nathan Brown - some people think he should be delisted at the end of the season but he shows the most heart week in, week out; great tonight again.

Nathan Jones & Brock McLean - pull your heads in kids, you are not nearly as fast as you think you are.

Good signs - Lynden Dunn and to a lesser extent Jace Bode.

Very strange game but I am proud of the way the boys fought in the second half. I was yelling so much I can't actually talk which is why I'm on here venting. Share your thoughts on the game.

I have never, in my lifetime, seen a team hit this hard by injury over the course of a season

They say dont use injuries as an excuse, well I say fiddle-sticks*

Its the only reason we arent in the top 4

How about...

Jones and Brock- Well done for putting yourselves in every contest and trying to win the ball. If they don't do it, who the hell will?

Junior, Jones and McLean are the only players in the team who know the meaning of a clearance. All were exhausted by the end of the night, and got caught. It's frustrating, but it happens. I rather they get caught with the ball, than not get the ball at all. If only they got some bloody support!!!

Brown is a battler, always was, always will be. Love his courage and determination, but he is an ordinary player. If we're serious about moving the list on, he has to retire.

Conditions didn't help Jones under foot, but on a night like tonight I will NEVER have a go at him for backing himself.

At one stage Dunn got done for holding the ball after trying to break through. Melbourne were a rabble at this stage, so I say good on him for actually having a go, trying to spark the team.

Jones shows more and more every week.

i said it in another thread...........but i thought jones was great. i'm wrapped to see a guy soo young at our footy club take on the opposition the way jones does. he will be a star.

Surely Brown will be here next year, Of course he wont be part of the long term future but can lead the way until others can force him out of the side. As for Jones surely he will win the B & F which at 19 will be a great effort.

Broke is incredibly out of form, based on what ive seen since i got back. But Jones and Brock have the physical ability to break a tackle, so I'd rather them try, rather than throw it on their boot. Brock gets caught way too much though. Atleast once a game. But, if you see, whenever he is tackled, he lets himself get span around, looks to see if their is a melb player, if there isnt, would rather give the free kick away than kick it to no one.

jones is a star.... he was stiff a few times... BROCK MCLEAN he asked for it..... he runs like he is in quick sand....

jones was easily one of our best..... pull ur own head in

Jones was our 3rd best I thought. Got caught multiple times and so deserved the comment. He's one of my favourite players, I don't have a specific agenda to taint any particular player's name on here like some people.

true, but if you take into account that the guy is still in line for rising star nominations and yet he's virtually holding our midfield together, it says alot about a guy soo young. i thought he was our best tonight without any particular bias towards him. brock did get done a few times but he needs some slack, no doubt he is playing hurt and trying to do too much.

We missed Miller! His hard lead accross half forward was required.

Bate and Newton are good roaming targets but neither lead up the middle.

Boy Gouga that is very gutsy ;) ........

I love Jones - isn't it great to have a player who just rocks up week in week out and puts in 100%, runs till he drops, always goes hard and just brings that intensity to the contest. Very reliable for a player so young.

His next task will be coping with closer attention that will come his way next year. He's earnt that respect from the opposition.

Agree, for a young bloke he isn't worried about flying the flag, just steps up and does it.

There was a massive hole at CHF all night. We just stall coming out of defence. I don't think this happens as often with Miller in the side. Despite his bad form of late.

I'm not saying he should play instead of Bate or Newton but maybe one more role of the dice?

Someone has to come in for Dutchy.

Arguably in our best tonight like last week. Gave for four quarters like Nathan Jones.

Why does Brown always get no recognition while other more vaunted players who go missing in action are not held accountable?

Well down Dogga. Finishing your career in grand style

Brad Miller would only fall into it. ;)

lol

Wheatley, on the other hand, is not.

What on earth was with his kick-outs tonight?

Very, very average.

Not good enough Wheatley. Finishing your career with a series of dumb mistakes.

Was very good tonight.

Doggy is all heart. If he could give a bit of his heart to each and every member of our side, that would be wonderful.

You never get less than 150% from him. He'll dive on every ball and run all day. It's little wonder that he is so loved.

Sadly, his skills and accountability are not always up to scratch and I'm sure you agree that at 30 his time has come.

I'm thrilled for him that he's finishing his career in style, as you said. Nobody deserves it more, and he should be remembered for the wonderfully gutsy player that he's been over the journey.

(His kicking drives me crazy  )

Also, does anyone know what the fireworks were for?

I'd like to think it was for Neitz, but the club didn't really go to a great deal of trouble for what was a huge milestone.

He certainly wasnt alone tonight... I didnt think we were going to start "kick to kick' til rnd 22 !!

Also, does anyone know what the fireworks were for?

For the rugby league match between Melbourne and Parramatta at Oympic Park.

ETA - Sorry BrownlowBruce beat me to it  !!!

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
