Can someone tell me what is up with CJ? Is he playing for Sandy, or is he injured? Because I would have thought he'd be getting a game by now. He looked set to explode at the start of the year, but just didn't take his opportunities and is in real trouble.

What do people think lays ahead for the future of Chris Johnson?

What lays ahead of him - not much if he still can't get a regular game. Does some things well but nothing great and does not have a definitive position on the field. I would keep for another year but he needs to play with a lot more intensity and purpose.

I think he will get another year. But starting to tread on thin ice.

Hard to play for purpose when you don't get a game in the 1st. But then again it's hard to get into the 1st when you don't play well, it's a catch22

Lets just start with what the problem has been with Melbourne over the last 10 to 12 years or so & I think that wiil help to put IT into perspective. Melbourne has been too gentlemanly, nice, forgiving, kind. The sort of things that you would want to find in a future son-in-law. But not the sort of things you want in a soldier protecting your life, he needs to get harder & uncompromising & when he tackles someone he should be trying to hurt them. 2ndly he needs to use his pace to advantage by running at a higher clip when carrying the ball before delivering. In short he has to get tougher on himself, to push himself to his limits & to stretch those limitations further & further. He's too nice @ present!

Agreed.

We have plenty of players who are either past it or have poor skills who will be delisted at the end of the season.

CJ falls into neither category and should be given another season to try and cement a place in the side.

He also is 190cms and is not slow either. Unless he is traded for a good player or decent pick, I don't want him to be the 5th Demon playing in another teams premiership following Pike, Bishop, Jolly and Armstrong.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
