Yep good points with both posts, just want to make it clear, the time was right for Goodwin to move, the playing group was fractured beyond repair without big changes. He tried to implement the quicker ball movement without really trusting the younger or role players enenough

Yep, agree with all points, except perhaps the very last one (need to give that some thought).

I think from a coaching perspective, a barrier to implementing a faster game style was he was still very focused on zones, structure and players playing very specific roles. Hard to play on instinct when you're trying to remember where you're supposed to he or what your role is.

That said there's a funny irony in Sundays game.

We are the long bomb team, not the one Goody is involved in.

Tuned into the pre-game thread for the Swans and somehow I ended up back in a Goody good or bad, and what cost us the flag debate! Am I in a time machine?!😂

Anyway, on the topic (if that's ok) I think we should look at this as a free hit and a chance to measure ourselves against the current peak of the competition. What's going to be really interesting is seeing how we try to adapt our MCG-suited game to the much smaller SCG. I also think that our conditioning has been very much planned for this period and the aim was to give ourselves the best chances at the Lions and Tigers, to then allow for the longer break to the swans.

With that in mind I'm expecting Moose to be sent back to Casey. I don't think he did anything wrong but I think this was a plan to allow Max to be Max against Grundy. Bowey obviously will come back in and I'd be happy seeing Cross come in for Culley.

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
