Lord King……All Rise….

Nah, disagree with comments. King is the man and the lid is off imo. I really rated our list and believed in the quality we have could take us far.

Only matter of concern was the kids and how long it would take for them to adapt and how long they can last across a marathon 23 round season. But, so far so good.

We saw with Collingwood multiple times throughout history just how much momentum and confidence can do. In 2007 with a young list a similar profile to our current list, they copped a hiding early by Brisbane, but the momentum carried them all the way to a prelim, then we saw something similar with the McCrae era.

I’m confident we can challenge for the top 6. King has pushed all the right buttons since day 1 and I don’t see him slowing down.

It's stating the obvious but our style of play has made the world of difference

The surprise element is how so many of our players have adjusted to the new style in such a small amount of time. And that includes a number of players who may have been previously written off

We really do look like a completely different team

The concern is getting punished by turnovers but the best teams live with that concern as well

We've gone from lacking basic skills to being quite skillful

King has backed the team in and the team has responded

A predicted end-of-season outcome of 7th to 10th will do for now and that's entirely do-able. It also means finals with the new set-up. So it's not a big ask

Imagine settling for 7th - 10th in the few years following 2021?

So what was once a low bar is now a high bar

Our next biggest test in terms of getting another win is the next match (Essendon)

The final 10 is what it is and they won't be going back to the final 8

Looking further ahead ...

  • Brisbane is tough

  • Richmond winnable,

  • @Sydney real tough

  • Eagles winnable

  • Hawks tough

  • Bulldogs tough

Every winnable games is really vital in terms of bringing our best

Nice to be part of the conversation again though

And make no mistake, none of those too 6 teams will take us lightly moving forward.

Melbourne under King: vFl PREWIEHds in 2027?

PS: Disco Turner is taking his reverence REAL serious in that... photo? It's a photo, isn't it?

That's a bloke who told teammates "Unless we beat Gold Coast... I will not believe" and then - uh oh. But it's OK. King's not angry; he's just slightly disappointed. "Disco, because we beat Gold Coast, you have believed; blessed are those who went to a couple of training sessions and yet have believed. Now go and get a haircut like a 1950s Premiership player."

I’m getting a bit offside with the media.

R1: media said that St Kilda should have won as we started slow.

R3: media said that Carlton lost it and didn’t even mention us really

R4: media said we won because Petracca and Humphrey were out.

At what stage will the media start to say, Melbourne is a good team, or Melbourne will give you a run for your money, don’t underestimate Melbourne.

I think the boys have worked their assess off and when we win it’s more than what the opposition have done wrong.

I stopped caring about the media in 2021. We know who we are.

Which?

I heard TJ from 9 say that demons only won because of outs.

Lloyd say we only have two good players and the rest are bad.

Haven’t heard what you heard, can you share which programs? Would be nice to hear something good for once.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
