Every now and then I have a thought that there will one day be a Melbourne squad that doesn’t have Max Gawn in it and it makes me legitimately emotional. I can’t and don’t want to imagine it. Wonder if this is how the fans of the 80s felt about Robbie.

The answer would be yes.

A sneaky Brownlow at 34 for a ruckman is absolutely not out of the question on current trajectory. No wouldn’t that be bloody something?

I hope he plays till he is 38 but he has got to get out of his own way. Either miss every 6th game or play forward (or behind the footy) for 30 minutes a game.

I worry it will be over in a blink of an eye or a rupture of an ACL, and that’s when the grief really gets you - when it’s so sudd

Fantastic win, I admit I didn't tip us.

The team is running with confidence and it shows. Relentless and fast footy which is great to watch.

The amazing thing was our midfield dominance considering how young we are in there. Across the ground we unsettled the opposite and did you notice how much they were arguing with each other every time we beat them. Not a team yet on today's performance.

Also better first quarter, though still not leading yet at 1/4 time.

Agree midfield dominance is off the charts … and we don’t have the big 3 from our flag, JV, CP, CO and, frankly, looking better without the last 2 year versions of them.

As long as you have 100 true fans, you won’t ever achieve anything. Gold Coast is this. They lack soul, they lack an identity and they lack anyone giving a [censored] about them. They are essentially pay to win like free to play mobile games.

Handouts by the AFL allowed them Hardwick, Judas, Anderson, Rowell, MaC Andrew…. God, I hope they get picked apart, even if it strengthens Geelong or Collingwood. We may even get a chance to land Mac Andrew in a couple years time as Lever winds down to an end.

Mmmmm …. do we really want him now? I realised that we are a bit thin on KPDs, given Adams is yet to convince, but MacA can be pretty shaky. Work on Disco and Petty, and maybe if Kentfield goes well as a KPF / relief ruck, JVR could turn defender.

I'm thinking this to myself after every MFC game lately. Reminding myself to make the most of it and never take it for granted.

He deserves every accolade he gets.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
