If you attend any NFL / NBA game, there is constant noise playing throughout stoppages in the game, and in some cases, during the game. Both of those leagues are among the most profitable sporting leagues in the world

Correlation does not equal causation.

I am a regular music concert attendee and I have never one ever heard or seen a football match played being played in between songs.

Bizarre comparison.

Favourite band Daz?

I just attended Red Hot summer tour up here in Wodonga only two weeks ago

Paul Kelly, Missy Higgin, Kasey Chambers, Cat Empire, The Cruel Sea, Jess Hitchcock.

Not a bad line up and was there specifically for Paul Kelly. The rest were good support acts.

My genre is mixed laze, I can go from classics to half modern. I say half because I really do find today's music extremely excruciating. I have found a new love for classics in general.

I attended Pearl Jam back in 2024 to Kendrick Lemar last year. So i can go from one extreme to another.

Did Elton John one year in Rutherglen. Bloody amazing that one...

"GREG, THE STOP SIGN!"

To the first part of a three-part Aussie classic....

CJ! CJ! CJ, you stopped another goal!

da da da you stopped another goal.

While true I'm guessing that if in the years since all the extra noise the attendances have dropped or there are a lot of official complaints (or even just many online) somewhere along the line those leagues would take notice and remove the music. I hate to say it but I'm guessing their audiences have not dropped.

All this talk around songs playing after a goal is kicked has missed the main benefit I see - when I go to take a leak at the 22min mark, to beat the rush, and someone kicks a goal while I'm gone - the song is almost like a score update before I get back to my seat.

Hmm , did Slash ever release any solo albums?

How would you feel if you’re at a concert watching your favourite band and between songs audio excerpts of footy matches were played?

If it were the last bit of the third quarter in the 2021 grand final I'd love it!

Some great stuff there, would have been a banger of a day. Paul always puts on a good live show.

I'm exactly the same and would happily go from a rock gig one week to a hip hop gig the next.

Used to get up to Brighter Days every year around this time. Always good fun.

Pet hate: folks who dismiss a hypothetical question without sharing their reasons why and instead throw adjectives around with no substance; nonsensical, facetious, etc., to wit: WHY is my example not valid?

Then engage in substantive debate, rather than resorting to a logical fallacy, a red herring if you will, and straw-manning. It doesn't require a lot of intellect to work out why your example is not valid and I shouldn't have to provide you a dissertation on why the examples are not one and the same. You can argue all you want and I'm sure you will, but you're the one creating a false equivalency and wanting to force an answer using a bizarre comparison.

As I've said, and I'll say it again, I don't have a strong opinion on the matter either way. Play music at the footy, or don't play it; I'm non-committal. Your inability to synthesise that point just makes your supposed comparison all the more disconnected and diverts away from meaningful discussion.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
