I worry more for the person who accepts the advances having just been weighed 😅

Indeed! Talk about having low self-confidence. Honestly I wouldn't be totally shocked if some [censored] insisted later in their relationship that their partner stand on a scale to decide if they'd stay. But even the most shallow loser doesnt need scales to be an *****ole

The weight thing has always been such a silly non-issue. Only doctors and people trying to get thinner/stronger care about exact weights. Could you imagine someone taking a set of scales to a nightclub and only hitting on someone after they've weighed them?!!!!! Even when size matters to someone their eyes are a better judge for 'discerning' size. Player weights were such a silly stat. They fluctuate daily and whether they were because of extra fluid, fatty tissue, muscle or a full belly is relevant. But, no, the AFL would get some momentary, transient measure for players during preseason that somehow the general public would use months later when theyre doing their footy tips in August. (!)

The thing is people have always used their eyes to judge size. Whether kids want to say Amber has girl germs because she looks fat or you can see that a lanky 6'6 rookie ruckman will struggle against his opponent who is built like a brick s****ouse we dont need a scale. None of this has changed. Despite whether weights are published or not people can still fat-shame and football staff and fans can still see if players are/were fat or muscular - all regardless. We may as well include, and then not include, players' favourite colour in their stats.

Well said.

Every fan could reel off dozens of names of footballers who are/were rake thin and hard as nails. And a similar number who are/were built like the brick s###house you mentioned and not really cut out for such a physically demanding game. Weight, for all the reasons you've said, tells us almost nothing. And even if it was a steady number, it would still tell us almost nothing.

Footballers are not farm animals; they're not more valuable because they have more meat on them.

One question I have is, is wingspan important?

Just like in the NBA, they don't only care for vertical but for horizontal spacing.

Would be interesting to know.

Isn’t wingspan supposed to be the same as height?

Their is an old saying that’s politically incorrect, to sum up the tank who likes the outside ball.

I hope they do a better job than my medical specialist. I need to have my height and weight checked before they dose me up, and this week they had me at 183cm & 87.5kg…now, the weight I could gladly take, but I’m 188cm for gawd’s sake! As a child I’d been pointed out as being a bit of a shrinking violet, but they made me shorter than my sons!!

Yeah, my old man use to pip me height wise, being an even 6'0" and myself around the 5'11" mark. And he use to be quite happy about the fact. Not so happy an more that his shrinking has let me overtake him.

Not sure I'll ever really have such bragging rights over my No.1 son as at 13yo, he's shooting up like a bean pole and I full expect his to overtake me sometime in the next couple of years.

I think that's the Vitruvian Man theory of "perfect dimensions" as best seen in the drawing of Leonardo da Vinci. However, I think some footballers have longer arms than others. I always thought one of Robbie Flower's great strengths was his longer reach compared with anyone else of the same height. It allowed him to outmark his opponents. (It wasn't just his reach, of course. It was also his talent, courage, etc).

Bison said he hasn’t been measured in a while but he thinks he may’ve grown another cm or two. He’s gonna ask to be measured and he’ll let me know next week.

Also planning on a measuring request is Kalani, who is also gonna let me know next week* He’s listed as 199cm but when he was last measured which was a while ago, he was 201cm. He feels he’s definitely taller than that now though.

*Kalani said he’ll have a report on my desk at 9am on Monday 😅 and all I could think about was @Roost it far and how much he wishes us track-watchers were so proficient 🤣

I remember Kevin Murray saying the he played taller, cause of his long wingspan.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
