I m not sure Salem is still in our best. Who will replace him Werridee in your view? Maybe a better runner with a penetrating kick

Salems' strenghth is his tackling and ability to win one on ones

I still think heโ€™s best 23 but if not I would replace him with either Lindsay or Taylor

If he puts in a good offseason he should be. He seems very slow. Maybe slacking off a bit. Donโ€™t know.

Hmm, there's a lot of faith in Culley and Pickett #2 given theyre about 4 and 0 for games. I sure hope you're right.

BTW it wouldnt surprise me if AMW establishes himself in the team. Howes may also be a bit unlucky. Anyway there's still months of training before the eound 1 team is decided.

Happy to see Petty in the backline.

There is a team of quite a few older players.

Petty was with the forwards today. Most likely we'll have Mihocek, Petty and JVR as the tall bananas in the forward line. Mixing with Fritsch and Melksham as medium forwards and Chandler/ Laurie/ Sharp as the smalls but watch out for Latrelle... he'll be in that forward line in no time with his crafty skills, goal sense and elite pressure.

Agreed. I'm not saying they won't be best 23 at some stage soon, but I'd be looking for at least some kind of stand-out performance in practice matches against other teams to say that the new recruits are seniors ready. To me this goes for L.Pickett and Taylor.

Based on his AFL/senior level performances to date and a good preseason, I'd be quite happy to have Culley in the 23, but honestly I think he's got to put in a string of consistent high quality, high output games before he replaced Langdon in the starting 18.

Someone could hold a tipping comp where all tips are made before round 1. But I wouldn't recommend someone tip this way when no one else does. I bet our coaches are only discussing which players are doing well and their individual programs over summer. While the concept of a best 23 makes sense midyear it doesn't yet.

There is a particular poster you should be addressing this to.

With no May, lever injured often, ai feel Petty needs to return to the backline

After two years in the role he has proven he is not a goal kicker.

King will be smarter.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFLโ€™s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.ย
