Roosy's roost

Featured Replies

I just saw Paul Roos saying we can win the flag next year. He said we still have lots of premiership players, are nowhere near as bad as many claim and cited Chris Scott, MacRae and Longmire doing similar(!)

Roos declares Melbourne 'could win a flag next year' amid...

Melbourne currently has no senior coach and sits 13th on the ladder, but Paul Roos believes the club could have a quick turnaround next season.

(I saw this on Facebook and it was on something like the ABC Sport page.)

Paul Roos for next MFC coach. Wouldn't that be wild!

I don't think that was the angle he was taking

:)

I did see that too. Buckley has also similarly praised our list, though, not quite as emphatically as Roos. Kind of makes a mockery of the story line that the MFC board didn't see the team being as close to competing again as Goodwin.

‘Diametrically opposed’: Inside story of Goodwin’s axing...

‘Was he deluded?’ Inside story of $1.2m Demons axe... and trade watch set to re-ignite

Either the board has a different appraisal than Roos, Ralph has his story up shiit creek or something in between that maybe they're more aligned with Roos, but do think a fresh approach is needed.

Time will tell I guess and hopefully the truth does come out down the track.

No one in the media praising he club for acting swiftly to look after their premiership coach and not wanting him to go out at rock bottom. FWIW i hope we get a experienced coach maybe a Buckley with a understudy to take over when his done, a 10 yard plan, stability and aligned direction

A bit harsh - they are on record as saying they think list needs a different voice and it is rumoured the board still think we have a finals list. Roos saying we can win flag doesn’t make it true.

How is that harsh? Did you read the Fox article / story line I was referring to?

Simon Goodwin presented to that board on Monday night, it was all about how this club would compete for a premiership next year: ‘We’re so close, we can sniff it’. That board was diametrically opposed to that view. They were crystal clear this was a club that needed some kind of step or two backwards before it pushed forward,” Ralph told Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle on Tuesday night.

...

Ralph said Melbourne’s decision to move into a new direction ultimately came down to the club not seeing him as its next “premiership coach,” believing the list needs a “significant revamp”.

The options I gave for the possibilities were Either the board has a different appraisal than Roos, Ralph has his story up shiit creek or something in between that maybe they're more aligned with Roos, but do think a fresh approach is needed.

If you read the rest, it has much of the same tine. Seems to me that Ralph has overreached on the part about the boards appraisal of the list from what you are suggesting.

Firstly, shame on you for making me read a Jon Ralph article. That bloke hurts my eyeballs and earballs in equal amounts.

Secondly, it is Jon Ralph.

... if we're going to get all technical, it was a Ben Cotton article (if you can even call it that) quoting Jon Ralph 😉

Oi Chook… I’m juuuust starting to warm to Bucks. Please don’t make my acceptance of a Collingwood person be in vain!

I find it helps to think of Buckley as a Brisbane Bears person...

Reminder to Josh Jenkins… Collingwood built a forward line around Mihocek and won a flag and coming from 17th under McRae. Mihocek.. 🤡

Our performance this year has no bearing on what can happen next season and I’m glad someone in the media is speaking with brains for a chance

JVR coming into a 5th season, Fritsch can continue his good form, Melksham just doesn’t stop and the defense in general can improve with a few tinkering changes to the midfield.

Turner breaking out and May is showing he is still a seriously good player when fit alongside T-Mac who is just getting better with age. I know many see him as captain material, but there is a good chance Lever may be relegated to depth player if everything comes together and we have a fit and healthy list. May or may not play depending on horses for courses.

Conversely footy journos and commentators saying we can't doesn't make that true either.

In late breaking news Maynard to hang up his boots and become Melbourne's assistant coach. 🤣🤣🤣

Yep, there's often plenty of upside. Often the surprise premiers (who were not in the market in March) in hindsight had all sorts of little hints for improvement the year before. Of course even Roos and the naysayer journos are in the dark really about a lot of where the Dees are actually at. But I'm glad Roos has some confidence and , quite simply, it's too easy to get stuck on our current ladder position or much-mentoined flaws and forget change can be possible.

Maybe a re-brand for the footy club is the answer? I know a guy

It is warm and fuzzy to have intelligent, informed and successful football people on MFC BAND WAGON.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
