Good pod as always. @binman what was the book you mentioned that had data on coaches not impacting sports performance. I missed the name, so googled ā€œcoach impact on team sports performanceā€ and only came up with stuff saying coaches have a big impact. This study stating 20-30% of performance was down to the coach was top of the list.

How much do coaches impact success in sports?

For pro and college teams, leadership can make a big difference.

I second this.

Binman, your job this week is to find the name of that book!

"The Captain Class: A New Theory of Leadership" by Sam Walker.

In The Captain Class, Walker, a former editor at The Wall Street Journal, investigates what makes elite sports teams truly great. Through his research, he identifies a group of the most dominant teams in sports history and argues that the common factor behind their success is not the coach, star players, or tactics — but the presence of a particular kind of captain. These captains often go unnoticed but possess exceptional leadership qualities like resilience, emotional control, and the willingness to do the dirty work.

It's a compelling book that challenges traditional notions of leadership in team environments, both in sports and beyond.

Thanks Andy Binman and all posters, I had a listen on Tuesday night and concur with all the positive posters, another great listen on a game that really could have been ours. Really enjoyed your thoughts on the game nice to get a clear perspective on the why’s, wherefore’s and nuances of the game and strange how we were right in it despite Tracc, Clarry and Max all being well down on their average performances. It’s a bit of a shame that the negativity is outweighing the on field gains that we are currently seeing with our playing group, I hope for the FD and playing groups sake that they turn up for each and every game left in this unholy season. Thanks again.šŸ‘šŸ˜

Thanks. On my must read list.
