KICKING IN- GREAT LAST MONDAY

Featured Replies

For once I had the good feeling that we weren't going to muck up our kick ins on Monday. Normally, my heart is in my mouth but with the boys breaking from the pack and leading well and with Wheatley's beautiful, accurate kicking finding their mark, I was very relaxed. I hope they let Wheatley do all the kick ins in the future. What do others think?

wheats use to do it until all his injuries, most times though id rather the quick kick instead of waiting for a designated kicker.

if collingwood had any brains they would have set a zone to the huddle which would have stopped it quickly.

but wheats can kick it 60 so that helps break the lines like fletcher at essendon does.

Spot on, "Condemned". It wasn't a change in tactics by us , but shocking tactics by Collingwood, who failed to notice what trouble we have combatting defensive zones. They "manned up",allowing us to huddle, and we took great advantage of it. Unfortunately, it's unlikely no other opposition will make such a basic tactical error. I hope they do, since it made the difference between winning and losing in this game.(3rd v. 15th).

Nothing different that we did. Collingwood ran a huddle with NO outriders. As a result we had players who would break free eventually. Very, very different from what other teams have thrown at us.

Amazing that they didn't think to try and stop the huddle from breaking even once. We kept using the tactic with ease all game long.

I think Wheatley huge kick does help with implementing it better, and so does Davey's speed, but it's not a long-lasting tactic. Good teams (or switched on teams I should say), will get onto it quick smart and stop it from happening like they have all year.

i can't get over how authoritative our backline was in the last quarter. mopping up with ease. reminded me of the great tony anderson/ frank davis/ hardeman funsters...
