When we were are at our best, we often had Brayshaw playing as a defensive midfielder (as well as an attacking mid when it suited)

Not sure that Petracca, Oliver or Viney can play that role as marking strength and the ability to spoil was part of Gus' role.  Maybe Rivers?

Not advocating Langford at half back or on a wing (Gus also played those roles at other times), but more so at the defensive side of the midfield sweeping from side to side

We need some versatility in the midfield and that's maybe why we drafted Langford in the first place

Of course, we could also play Langford as a forward mid or a HHF if augers well.  Right now, Langford has the base attributes so we'll soon see where it all goes from here

Always appreciate the outside of the box thinking Macca!

Cripps/Green are the best comparisons - he doesn't have the explosive power of Petracca (as very very few do).

To be fair, Petracca didn't have the explosive power of Petracca in his 1st pre-season either.

The role referenced fits in with defence-first mantra

Last year the average score against us was 78 points where as in the 2021 premiership year it was 65 points.  And a similar number in 2022 & 2023?

Just as long as they weren't in the arms of In Harmes Way way too long.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
