He's going better than Jefferson was at the same stage - and now he's Demonland's new darling.
Needs to be give more than a couple of months to prove himself.

He certainly has that 'couple of months to prove himself', so we must hope that he knuckles down to the task, learns heaps and improves accordingly - Kentfield could well prove to be a great pick-up in an environment geared to learning, training and specialist coaching, up close.

Exactly! He was abruptly uprooted in the middle of the year and plonked in a city he’s never even visited, let alone lived in. He’s had to make a monumental adjustment. He’s 18 years old. Eighteen! People need to give him a break ffs.

Fortunately, since arriving he’s had Kolt by his side. They still live together with the Porz family. He’s getting to know all the other players, but slowly. He’s actually quite reserved and hopefully his confidence will come. He’s happy here and is even getting used to the weather (!)

Yeah I’m gonna say it… it actually hurts to read these comments about him packing his bags etc., him doing SFA, a flipping burgers gif and someone ❤️-ing these posts. I really hope he doesn’t read DL (but he probably does, just as a few of the young guys do), coz if I find these posts hurtful, he’s definitely going to as well.

So, have at me for defending him. I couldn’t care less. A bunch of insensitive sadsacks sitting behind their screens belittling an 18yo boy who’s determined to make us proud aren’t worth a pinch of [censored].

edit: Luker, if you do read this thread, please try to ignore the nasty comments and know that they’re in the (tiny) minority.

Well stated, as usual,WCW

Haven't given up on Mcadam. Seems like his Hamstring was more major than minor...could be better next year. Fingers crossed.

McAdam could be better next year!!  He would want to be.

I think the frustration around Kentfield is less about how he is performing and more about a club that is clearly confused about where it is placed, both now and in coming years.

On one hand we have Goodwin still picking injured veterans in a forlorn hope of making finals and Lamb making bizarre player trades supposedly to keep us in a premiership window.

On the other we get a chance to get an immediate impact in a need area in the MSD and we pick a highly speculative project player.

We need to fully commit to one strategy or we set ourselves up for years of mediocrity.

Names please.

It should be pretty obvious after the events of the last 2 years that having 2 ruckman is never going to work. We need a Jackson clone, not another pure ruckman.
As for Kentfield, he has size on his side.

Maybe Kent could become a forward / ruck, though a very different build and style than Jackson ???  He looks like he has a very strong build.

I have full faith in Jason Taylor.

Kentfield will be a smart choice.

As it was a Taylor move and not a Lamb I too will have confidence.

I've heard Jason Taylor speak on this previously.

Pretty sure the concept is to get them in early into the program instead of waiting until the November draft.

Problem is, we only signed him to a 6 month contract, so maybe he may not exactly be in their long term sights as some think. Perhaps they are wanting to see whether he shows enough at VFL level.

I agree with you though, certainly missed the boat in bringing in a mature age ruckman.

Which ruckman are you referring to dazzle ??

Unfortunately, and disgracefully by the VFL as an organisation, given yet another bloody bye, he only has one more game to prove himself.

Saad El-Hawli looked legit in the Essendon VFL team and then wrecked his ankle, not the greatest proof of concept but had he stayed healthy he'd have been something.

Logan Evans who Port took one pick behind us is fantastic, and just a kid. He'll be the player of this mid season draft. Unfortunately I'm not sure our budget even covers the SANFL, or if we can't find the streams.

Brynn Teakle was the obvious choice to give Max some cover for the season as well as straighten us up in the forward line, has done pretty well at North.

And Ned Long has been a useful contributor for the Pies who have had the same midfield struggles as us but have gone at got reinforcements.

Kentfield was a 100-1 to go in the top 50 in this years draft, but we took him so we can get a look at him and have him settled before doing a preseason. That way he's ready to perform at Casey next year and you're not waiting until 2026 to even know if he'll be up to it at VFL level yet alone AFL level.

Right now it's hard to see the positives in that investment.

A very narrow window, granted; however, months of summer training might well be a difference in his 'proving'. There is a great deal to be achieved, not only for Kentfield, and with a new coaching plan across the board, chances of re-establishing our 'dynasty' may well sparkle again. Kentfield seems to be a likely type for this purpose but circumstances place him a fair way behind our collective mountaineers.

Watched him play at Subiaco he will be a very good player strong mark and beautiful kick a natural footballer has the ability to bust packs very much like Jesse Hogan

He came across with an injury but with a preseason will be ready TO PLAY

A great prospet

Encouraging.

The kid was plucked from nowhere as an 18 year old with no pre season. I am happy to give him another year or 2.
