We got one more Flag than the saints super list of 08-10.

So there’s that!

Haven't solved or improved this aspect of our game since Steve posted this topic and it'll be three seasons by Sept.

I'd say we are STILL one of the most unreliable kicking for goal teams in the AFL for set shots in the AFL bar Roo (when he's clunking them which until last week wasn't often) and Fritsch who of late has also been off.

Whoever is teaching them 'technique' it's not working. Are we teaching them?

We also still have some players not understanding or confident about whether to use a straight kick or a banana for goal on many occasions.

Then there's the likes of Kozzy who occasionaly still plays on too early with the banana instead of using up the enite shot clock to allow defenders / mids to re-energise and set up behind the ball for a potential kick in.

He is also a perennial hooker of the ball once he shoots from roughly 35 - 40 or more.  Same for Max.  Max just laughs about it but surely it should have been majorly corrected by now (for both).

Whenever i watch training i never see anyone instructing or advising on kicking technique either for goal ornin general play.

I never see us drilling with mids / HBs moving the ball through the middle and forwards providing hit up leads to receive.

I see them doing delivery skill drills from anyone to everyone but usually it's across the middle of the ground, not coming into the 50.

Having said that, i've only watched open sessions at Gosch's so maybe we don't show this side at Gosch's but do it in a big way at Casey?

As well as instructive kicking for goal techniques and advice on when / how tdo kick bananas vs straight kicks.

Whatever we are doing at practice, it certainly hasn't played out on the field consistently and instead we most often [censored] the bed in big games or look amaturish coming inside 50 (connecting) and shooting for goal.

Again bar Roo & Fritta.  I would add Melk & BBB in there also when playing but of course we've rarely seen either of them now and both are approaching the finish line.

Aside from that the rest are / is a dog's breakfast and its been that way for 2.5 seasons now.

The Cats pride themselves on the above and do it much better which is one.of the key reasons why they have the best H&A W/L ratio of any team for over a decade now.

Their kicking technique in general, execution when hitting up targets i50 and shot selection between straight and around the body is usually second to none.

Going back towards more of a contested, clearance and defensive DNA is a start (if we can...which i doubt we can to enough degree to make a big enough diff this season given our lack of depth) but it won't fix this issue unless we address method coming i50 including forward patterns/methods and leads, general field kicking and shot for goal technique under simulated high pressure.

If that means getting the loud speakers out on the ground with super loud simulated fan noises including booing and the 'Colliiiiinwoood' chant then so be it!

If we can't fix this basic and obvious part of our game in the second half of this season, then i seriously think we need to recomsider the present coaching line up from the top down and start again as they will have proven that they are incapable of fixing this part of our game.

Three strikes and you're out fellas!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Brisbane

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
