Ok. Bradley has now played 150 games and has been pushed up into the leadership group.

I put this question forward.

Has Brad Green played more good games than he has bad?

Has he played enough good games to warrant being a vice-captain, and possible captain this week?

I think no.

This year he is 0 and 2. And there is no way he has played over 75 (captains) games.

depends how u look at it.... hes been there and hes been consistant in most parts..... u dont have to play the best every week to be a captain , it is desireable but remember its who the players and coaching staff think can lead their team . motivate etc....

I thought, looking at the title, that this thread would be talking about the difference between Green's best and worst games. In days gone by he'd kick 4 goals one week, then go completely missing the next. Last year showed he's working to bridge the gap between his best and worst, and while it's a work in progress, it's great to see as recently as last year he's still developing.

The last 2 rounds are not a great sign, but I'm going to hold off judging him for now.

Yeah same, i am prepared to wait and then see what happens :)

If he keeps working hard he'll turn the corner.

He's never really been a matchwinner as a midfielder more a solid contributor who's work stands out a lot more when we're winning.

That said he hasn't been awful the two times we've lost either:

R1 v Saints 18 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 1 goal

R2 v Hawks 20 d, 8m, 3t

Losing creates scapegoats and witchhunts. Lets try to be a little bit objective.

He has not had a consistent run of good games since probably 2002, his best year imo. He has never been shocking per say, but has had little influence on many occassions, Monday being one. I'd say it's 30/70 (good games to average)

Brag is and has been a good player for us but he is more suited to a support role than what Daniher has tried to play him as. Support meaning that he will never be a top line midfielder, he's 2nd tier, he's a good 'icing on the cake' type. Unfortunately we've had to rely on him being one of our ebst because we have no standout stars, in a team like the Eagles he would be a very, very damaging player.

I've become a big fan of Greeny following his complete turn around last year.

I admire that way he's gone about changing his game.

The issue I have, is that I still don't believe him to be a natural midfielder. IMO he is better suited to a back/forward flanker role, where he can push into the middle.

The last two games he's had very little influence on the match, and that has always been his problem. He finishes games with 25 disposals, but a lot of the time his impact doesn't match the stat sheet.

With the injuries to Robbo and Neita, I'd love to see Greeny back in the forward line.

you hit the nail on the head for me! back to the forward line.

Green had a fantastic year last year, and his consistency as part of the midfield group was critical to us playing finals.

I've been to both games this year, and I believe he is a bit below his best at the minute, but he has 21 other mates in the same boat, so he doesn't deserve to be singled out.

I have been a fan of Green for a long while and loved what he did last year, but I am with Jaded on this one......

He would be better suited in going back to the forward line with rotations in the middle, and hopefully this will suit the team as well <_< !!!

And this is spot on!!!

i'll put it to you then jaded, does danniher try and turn every good player into a midfielder? bruce, green, davey, all played their first footy in the forward line. while i think bruce is capable of playing all around the round, the other two definetly seem more suited to close to goal for mine.

what you think?

I put this proposition forward.

Maybe we should replace Green with Nick Sautner.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I think you may be onto something, but it's not necessarily related to Daniher's love of midfielders, but more his desperation for them.

Bruce is a utility, and IMO Daniher did the right thing by making him jack of all trades, because to be honest, he was never a master of any.

Green's move to the midfield came about when we had a surplus of forwards, and not enough midfielders. As I said, I'm not convinced Green is a midfielder. He doesn't have the necessary instincts if you like, in that he often gets lost in the action and finds himself drifting and floating along the boundary line.

As for Davey, clearly desperation on Daniher's behalf to inject more speed into the midfield. What Daniher doesn't seem to understand, is that Davey's speed is useless in the midfield, where he is too easily blocked and pushed away from the contest.

Yes, Davey is badly out of form, but by trying to make him something he's not, we're only exasperating the problem.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
