I guess the name of the game is winning Cactus, and in that respect, he is probably going to be the least risky proposition to play forward given that he did play about three good games for the cats playing forward. The point is though that maybe one of the younger blokes like Dunn, Bate or CJ - whilst riskier, may benefit from the experience (and selfishly for us supporters give us something to hang our hats on)

Dunn's also injured, the others aren't key forwards imho.

or that someone like PJ or Jamar who don't look like making it as ruckmen may somehow be converted into a productive forward.

PJ's more of a forward than a ruckman at AFL level imho, although I'm not sure how much that's saying.

I'd be keen to see Newton front up, but that's just because I don't really watch Sandy and thus aren't really sure what he's like :P

Here is a real chance for Neale and his selection committee to make a statement and come up with something innovative!!

Surprise us....

we too often take the path of conservatism but honestly, we see other teams take a punt on youth or experiment....

come on Neale, I dare you to try something from left field - a small forward line? a rookie?

As much as i'd love to see someone like Newton get a shot at FF, in all reality Scarlett would tear him to pieces, and probably rebound off him and kick a bag of goals himself. We don't have anyone fit who is able to dominate against Scarlett.

Ben Holland is pretty much the only choice in my opinion. He has played FF before. In all likelihood, he won't kick 4 or 5 goals, but he will provide a contest every time, forcing the ball to the ground, and at least keep the ball in our forward line for that little bit longer.

So rated in fact, that they traded him.

At best Bizzell plays FF, and kicks a couple. At worse, he does absolutely nothing and his player runs off him all day creating more headaches for us.

Bottom line is, this is most likely Bizzell's last season. He never was and never will be a FF, and playing him there will be like wallpapering a cracked wall. It won't help us in the long term, and it probably won't help us in the short term either.

On the other hand, we can let someone like Newton or Dunn play at FF for the next 4 weeks. They may not dominate, hell they may be completely useless, but at least we'll know. Either we'll unearth a long-term option, or we'll find out if these guys can cut it at senior level.

Neita is not going to be around forever, neither is Robbo, or especially Bizzell.

We're in a [censored] situation, and we can either be brave and make bold moves and gain something, or we can continue to fill gaps with players who are never going to get us anywhere.

Not making the most of this situation would be absolutely criminal, and a further blow to the team.

Can't help but agree with these sentiments. We have quite a few players on our senior list who are yet to play a game for the MFC? It wasn't that long ago that Aaron Davey stepped straight into senior footy where he wasn't even rated as having AFL potential months earlier. The talls on our list may not have the same X factor but at some point we need to identify the next Neitz and Robbo.

We need Bizz back in the team, but not in the FF role. He is best across HB.

I can see Miller at CHF, with Yze and Sylvia at HF.

Davey in the forward pocket with Holland at FF. I like Bate or Bruce to step into the other pocket, or better still rotate them.

I think with this line up, we can get up and snatch victory at home!

with the injuries to neita and robbo i reakon the coaches should start with this set up

FF:Sylvia Jamar Davey

HF:Picket Miller Bruce

Bring in PJ and have a roatation policy, one in the ruck, one up forward and the other on the pine resting up

davey should be played as a perminant crummer, too often last week there was no one front and center on the forward line

thoughts?

PICKETT ISN'T READY AND WONT PLAY!!!!

P.Johnson no, Holland No... go small

HF: Bruce, Miller, Bate

F: Davey, Sylvia, Yze.

Yze deserves a chance to play one out deep all game, same with slyvia and ND has to get Davey back to what he was doing in 2004-2005.. crumbing as a permanent forward!! how bloody obvious is it ND???

This forward line is the most logical because Yze, Sylvia are very good one out and it's probably our most dangerous set up we can put out there and still has a potent look about it....

Bizz in for Wheatley to play the floating back role, not the FULL FORWARD ROLE.... Carroll vs Ablett, Rivers vs Mooney, Holland vs Ottens/Hawkins and bizz to play floater or 4th tall back if they have blake on and have Hawkins, Ablett, Mooney and Ottens down there at the one time.

Thanks Fanatic for the simplicity.

Yze deserves to play one out deep all game.......I thought he had done enough of this over the past year and disappeared from the game. He is as potent as a eunich at the moment.

I am non plussed what Davey's position is to why he aint getting near the ball. If he cant crumb where the action is then how is going to crumb where the ball aint. A player of his stature is going to be subjected to pressure whether he is forward or back. Its up to the player to extract the digit and get his attitude right.

Unless there is a specific match up for Bizz and I dont think there is on Sunday I think a floating role is great way to describe the way Bizz has played for the past few years. Surely we need someone more accountable than him. Heavens knows we carry enough floaters at the moment in the team.

With Yze in the forward arc & Davey roaming around the goal square, this will work fine AS LONG as we deliver it into the forward line FAST.

Davey might be but Yze has been a proven woodduck if there is any pressure or contested situation involved and he does not have the easy ride.

Geelong have tall forwards and will outmark us every time with a small forward line. I recon:

HF: Sylvia Dunn Bate

F: Davey Miller Holland

I have been wanting Newton to play for a long time too... But we still want to win, correct?? I think we need some experience to steady the ship so to speak.

He isnt solid or experienced enough to walk straight into FF...

Biz knows how an AFL game is played and can play bigger than he is.

Newton should debut in a pocket with Neitz by his side to learn off him. When i first thought about it i was exactly like you but a 2nd thought changed my mind.

and what would those floaties be?? put him on the bench?? Try and hide him somewhere?? Put Jamar down there to help him??

If that's the case play Garland.

I am NOT for Biz playing in the forward line. Im upset we are playing ordinary and injuries but i would really like to see some new guys come in over biz and holland. Ok perhaps if we do that we have more chance of losing...but lets face it, the odds are against us already. Newton must get a game. How will he ever be any good if we dont give him some time in the afl. Remember neitz expiry date is very close.

I would really like to see Garland, Buckley, Pettard and Warnock. Who knows, they may play better than TJ last week lol. But seriously, look towards the future.

Danners will not name these players tho, as he rairly gives players a lot of chance and some luck

Warnock, thats an interesting option, he's quick.

Yeah whack him in. I recall him playing a sensational quarter against Preston at Cramer St off a half-forward flank in 2005 or 2004.

Huh? Garland is smaller and lighter than Newton...

Kids would be great to debut but i also want to win, the season isnt gone yet.

Sure we lose the next couple then we'll have a look at the kids and see if we can get juddy back home, but im not ready for that yet.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
